Thanks Blank_Canvas & Nod. Shame about the hunting on the 60mm. Was kinda hoping it might have been better on an x-t1, thought about adding a raynox 250 to try and get close to 1:1. The zeiss is twice as expensive which is a bit off putting. Might look into the tamron a bit more. Works out about the same as the fuji in price. Wondering if it might suffer from vignetting with the adapter added.
 
If you have concerns about vignetting from an adapter I would look to buy a legacy lens and then use a adapter so your financial comittment isn't to much. I had the Vivitar 55mm f2.8 macro and it's a highly regarded lens and I found it very sharp and easy to focus, but from my disabilities I am not steady enough. I have now got a Pentacon 50mm f1.8 & tubes, if I want to get close work, this is the cheapest option, my little set up cost £35.00 as it's going to be sat in a draw for most of the time but it's there if I need it.

Regarding the Fuji 60mm which I have had two of, both with my XP1's and I have tried my mates on the XT1. Yes it's not a true 1:1 macro but 1:2 I have never found this lens slow to focus or hunt particularly after the latest firmware updates, to me my 35mm hunts slightly more. For sharpness I think it's excellent from corner to corner and with some pics I have seen with the 56mm I think the 60mm runs it close for the money. If your wanting to try this lens, buy from a company with a good returns procedure like the rain forest company and return if not suitable after trying.

I won't mind the 1:2 that the 60mm gives you, it is the manual focus that is so painful to use. With my Nikon 105mm macro, one turn of the focus ring and I can achieve focus. With the Fuji 60mm, turning the focus ring to achieve focus feels forever
 
The extension tubes sound ok. I was initially put off them because of the reviews of the fotga versions. Have you got a link for forest. The only one I can find is an an image processing in walthamstow.

Make sure you buy from Amazon ( as per current link) and not a third part seller. Amazon have a great returns procedure if the lens is un-suitable, all part of the distance selling regs. If your considering purchasing any other Fuji lenses there is a £200 cashback on lenses at the moment.

Simon, if that was aimed at me, I can assure you that I haven't pointed anyone at this thread (or indeed been in contact with Fuji over this matter.) I know it's possible to have alerts sent when something's mentioned; a couple of years ago I took a few shots of a local educational establishment (which has a photography department) for their prospectus and posted them on the board with a comment about how I was surprised they didn't have the kit available to keep it in house. I got a shirty message back from them asking me to remove that comment... Apparently they have a bot that scans for mentions of the name and someone looks at every item that pops up. Nice way to spend money that should (IMO) be spent on improving facilities etc. at the education establishment.
 
@ Nod. The comment wasn't aimed at you or anyone else in particular, it was a general comment.

I made the offer of my voucher for Rich or Tracy or anyone else with sincere intentions. It would have been a shame if any active members of this thread had given the nudge, whilst I was trying to help other members.
 
Same here,the only reason i was speaking to Fuji was to try a get my voucher,and they said they were going to have a look into why i never received mine in the 1st place
 
Here's hoping that they sort out their issues and that everyone gets their vouchers and can use them where they want to!
 
Got mine now, not the greatest scheme ever and even the retailers don't seem to know exactly how it works

Not sure if they can be used online or even over the phone for that matter, looks like I may have to find somewhere that has one in and go in person. Not great for me, only got one camera shop that stocks Fuji about 20 miles away, they always charge top prices even above RRP on occasion.

Saying that still undecided about this lens, sounds ideal, but want to read or hear user opinions before I weigh in for one. The latest 200 quid cashback for buying two lenses clouds the situation even more, decisions decisions!!

The fault to 42 pages of praised for the x-t1 which I have been silently following here. I've bitten the bullet and order an xt1 with 18-55 and 55-200 lens. Just waiting for the camera to turn up.

I will play with the camera for a bit before selling my canon 40D (to possibly fund a 23mm f/1.4). But first of all I want to see how I get on with the camera. It's the first new camera I bought my I got my 30D and 40D for under 250£ each time so it is a big step for me! Other investment I need to do is a software to process my picture as I have Lightroom 3 which doesn't sound the best with x-tran sensor. Not sure what to do between buying Lightroom 5 or trying Photo Ninja and keeping LR3 as my organiser and finishing touch software.

I can't wait to get the camera and try it out! Looking forward to the dials and size mimicking my 35mm film camera!

That's what I did, LR3 is less than great hence the purchase of Photo Ninja which so far seems to be very good. Had the trial version of LR5, some good points like the Fuji film profiles, but it didn't seem to process RAW as well as PN. Can be used as a plug in with LR or as a standalone, prefer the latter myself, but its early days yet

Also bought the batteries you mention, seem fine in both the X-T1 and X-E1, might want to think about a L Bracket too. Didn't bother with a screen protector, hate those sticky plastic things, never get the buggers on without trapping dust or getting an air bubble

Speaking to my retailer their still not sure how it's working,so at the moment they are only taking voucher for customer who brought of them.

Wondering if I could buy online, pay the full price and then let the retailer refund me when they get the cash back from Fuji. Obviously would only go to a well established company, not in a rush so might all become clearer if/when I decide what to do

As for the lens been on my camera since I got it,lovely lens :)

They don't give you the size of the screen protector so ask before you buy. Lots of retailers are selling screen protectors that are slightly smaller than the XT1's screen
 
Well that was a pleasant surprise, my XT1 18-135 kit from Panamoz arrived today not in a kit box as advertised but as a boxed body and a boxed lens :)
 
Does anyone know how to stop the EF-X8 flash from affecting the exposure when set to commander mode? thanks
 
Can someone who has the new 18-135 check that the OIS actually stops in the off position as mine does not switch off and runs for the full two minutes of standby in either position after hitting the shutter button.

A lot of companies are stating that their protector fits the XT1 as it also fits the XP1, what the don't realise is the XT screen is bigger. I wouldn't buy that one without measurements. I think the one to get is the Xpertshield ones (sp) although somebody has had problems with lifting as mentioned earlier in thread, but they have replaced under there good warranty. Another one to check out is the Armor ones on ebay, only problems is that they have a silver outline and some people dont like this against a black screen. I will buy one when I get around to it.

For me I had old ipad screen protectors here so I cut down to size, works for me for the time being.

Or any lens they have with OIS. according to p. 9 in the manual, "the image stabilisation mode can be chosen in the camera menu" but I have been right through it and can't find any mode setting.

It sounds like the OIS is still running when switched off but a couple of test shots at 1/4s and 135mm definitely show that the ones where it's on are less blurry than when it's off. Nothing in the manual about it.

Thanks Nod, as least it is reassuring to know mine is not faulty and have to be returned, but I would have thought it would operate the same as the Canon and switch it off altogether, it is just an unnecessary battery drain as it is.

By default the camera setting has IS mode as "continuous", it can be changed to "shooting only" where the IS only engages on half press of shutter release.

To test, switch camera on whilst holding back button. Mine wasn't upto date when received a few weeks ago.

Thanks Colin, I must have missed it in the menu so will have another look and set mine to half press.

Simon, yes it looks like it may need updating, version 1.00.

Just listened to the thing (X-T1) with another OIS lens fitted and can hear the same gentle whirring in on and off switch positions. Hard to tell exactly where the noise (only audible when the camera's to the ear not eye) is coming from.

The latest firmware was released in late June and covers the new lens. The lens firmware is up to date but not sure even new bodies will be running the very latest version. At least it's fairly easy on the Fujis! Main reason I did the FW upgrade was to dispose of the message that popped up telling me to do so every time I powered the cameras up.

Colin, where on the menu is it, I can't find it for looking :)
 
BTW for those that find it a pain to have to press the centre button to set the iso and shutter wheels I have a mod for that that works a treat and looks good also, will post it up later :)

It's the first setting on "shooting menu 5"

My 55-200 still makes a quiet "whirring" even when set to shooting only, so not sure if you will notice a huge change.
