New exhibition at YSP entitled Blue and Back
 
Not sure if its been covered in this thread already but regarding the so called xtrans artefacts. Anyone on here suffered from it. I can't say I have but there are plenty who argue that they see it in a lot of images, especially where foliage is involved.
 
was going to put this in PP but thought it might get more response here.
one of my cats has a dark coat, shooting in Raw and processing in LR i can bring the shades of red and patterns out ok.
the photos App struggles to get anything decent and the Jpeg doesn't do it either,
my question,
are their specific settings in Jpeg that I could use that might do the same as LR or is it because the Raw file and the quality of LR does this better?

Is this the artefact that looks like watercolour ? It's happened to me a few times.
Repetitive areas like rocks or foliage. I just assumed it was my poor focussing technique :)

@snerkler is the "expert" on this. Sold his Fuji gear because he couldn't get his head round it. He bored us to death, entertained us for many weeks with debates about the problem. Some saw it; others didn't. I occasionally see something that might be the effect, but I'm not a pixel peeper so live with it. Hopefully he can come along and remind us of the debates?

I can see the wormey wormey effect if i overprocess some images and blow them up to the size of a bus rather than the fine grain i get from the 1DX MKII but two things spring to mind.

1/ I can process the images in a more subtle manor and avoid it completely but it takes me longer.

2/ I can be lazy and use a 5K camera if i can be arsed to lug it around all day or just be happy printing at normal sizes from the Fuji.

Worms are purely due to oversharpening and what I would call processing error, the other effects aren't and are there in the unprocessed file no matter what software you open them in. And yes they can be present in jpegs set to -2 NR and -2 sharpening (y)

As I said to jakeblu in another thread I'm not going to keep reposting the flaws as, if you've not seen it or can't see it for whatever reason why would you want to go looking for it and potentially fall out with your camera?

If you see something that's not right and want to investigate it then that's a different matter. That's what I did, was browsing my holiday snaps, thought something didn't look right and looked into why. The internet's full of information on it. I tried all the different softwares, all the suggested processing techniques and all the different camera settings, and the fact that it can still be seen in unprocessed files said to me that it isn't a post processing error, although 'wrongly' processing can accentuate it, and also bring in other issues such as the worms mentioned above.

I'm of the opinion if you like the images from a camera don't go looking for issues. I'm sure you could pick holes in most cameras somewhere. However, if you do see something that you don't like by chance (like me and others on here and other forums) then that's unfortunate, you then have to decide whether you can live with it or not. There are 'flaws' in my Olympus files but I can live with them, but unfortunately I couldn't with Fuji. And I'm not bashing Fuji, it's a great system with great cameras and great lenses, there is just something in the rendering that doesn't suit me. But just like choosing Canon vs Nikon, black and white vs colour it's personal preference and tastes (y)

I think Fuji was the cause of the lab coat :LOL: TBH I had no idea what you were talking about until I saw it for myself and then it all made sense ;) If only I'd realised what you meant beforehand :facepalm: TBH though I did enjoy using the XT1, it's a really nice camera to use so all was not lost (y)

Really like the effect! Can't comment scientifically as my screen is uncalibrated at the mo. Looks decent to me though.

Doesn't look that contrasty on my iphone 7 either. What screen is your calibrated one? The reason I ask is that the newer Mac screens tend to crush blacks and need quite a bit of fettling to get the blacks right. I found I had to change the gamma on mine.

Using an Alienware 17 R3 laptop calibrated with Spyder5 pro. It's apparently a 4K monitor. I'll maybe print it and see how it comes out.
 
Anyone using non-brand batteries for the X-T2? What ones and do you recommend? I'be only got the one genuine Battery but need more but they're expensive! Would buy second hand but there's none!
