The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Seems to be. Already despatched with tracking. Not bad on the busiest online day of the year.

Oooh! Exciting!

So, tempted to get the body on its own then add 2 lenses.
Will the 18-55 be a decent kit lens? To double up with a prime lens? I think I read that a 25mm on one of these is the "nifty fifty" for portraits. Or should I get something a little longer?
I know the question is a little bit "how long is a piece of string"

I took my Fuji X-T1 for a sensor clean today. Fixation did a great job, but the troublesome spot I wanted removing, is behind the sensor screen. Internet research seems to suggest that this a known issue.
Has anyone had to deal with this issue without a warranty ? My Fuji is second hand, I have no warranty.
Just a general enquiry before I contact Fuji.

Thanks.

Fuji is a APS-C sensor so multiply by 1.5, so 35mm is closest to 50mm (25mm for MFT/M43 cameras)

18-55 is a great lens and really shouldn't be called a kit lens

Just re-install the firmware.
Fine. Understand that.

If the camera allows date and language to be set does that indicate that body is working? What lens is being used? Try a quick clean of the contacts. As above^^^F0 usually means that lens and body are not talking to each other. You can see an image on the screen which seems to indicate body is OK.

@Mr Perceptive, many thanks for the offer by PM to meet up with you to try one of your lenses. Very nice of you. I've just spoken to Calumet and they have heard of this before and it was a faulty battery.

They asked me to try putting the battery in the grip rather than the body and it worked. They said that last time this happened, replacing the battery cured the problem. They are sending me a new one (to return the old one when it arrives). In the meantime, it seems to work properly with the battery in the grip so at least I'm functional for now.

My view of Digital Depot is slightly clouded after I ordered the 10-24 Fuji lens at 5.00am this morning, and was showing as "in stock" on the website (I delayed until today to take advantage of the double cash back promo).

However I got a call at around 10.00am to say they had sold out (despite charging the card), and would I like to be put on a waiting list. They said new stock "should" arrive mid December ish.

I wasn't' pleased that I ordered in good faith with their site showing as in stock, so cancelled the order and asked for a full refund.

Looks like I was lucky getting a 10-24 from Digital Depot this morning and ordered my 16mm 1.4 from WEX using my pex credit. :) Credit card is feeling the heat lately!

I got confirmation email from digital depot but maybe I'm due a call too. If you'd backordered, would it not have been worth the wait? It's the order date that matters I believe when it comes to Cashback?

I could have, but I'm going abroad at the end of next week and want to take this lens with me. I'm a very impatient person :D

Yes, but I'd get the 18-55 first and see what focal length you prefer before investing in the prime.

I did think that, but didn't want to miss any deals today. Thats all.

Should I look into different branded prime lenses, or will this be the best for who's sort of price.

Stick with the 18-55 as suggested. Then you can decide on a prime later.

Jordan, only Fuji and Zeiss Touit lenses will autofocus, the Samyang lenses are all manual focus.

The Fuji lenses are optically excellent, but only you can make the decision about whether to buy now or not.. S/h both these lenses (18-55 and 35f1.4) go for around the £250 mark.

Brilliant, thank you!

I would love to but the only two things I want and can afford aren't in any sales or cash backs, so for me all Black Friday did was screw up a sale

Yeah, you're not alone - I cannot find anything worth buying today - was hoping to pick up something from MPB but all the Fuji stuff amounted to was a lone and scruffy XT-10 - Black Friday seems a bit of a con to me :-( I'll keep my money.

The kit lens is meant to be very good. I'm not sure i will use it but bought it last minute as i would get my money back selling it on if i don't. As for the primes the 35mm is the 50mm equiv and the 23mm 35mm equiv. I've gone with the 27mm I wanted something more compact but might be a bit long for me. Might end up changing for the 23mm f2.

I was about to read in the lens sizes to be honest as the whole reason I was buying a new set up was purely kit size....
I haven't really looked into these pancake lenses, they look nice and small aesthetically, but I've no idea what they offer other than that.

No way! I'll keep my fingers crossed for mine then.

They have there weakness's but for street I want something small. I'm hoping it's a good replacement for my beloved Samsung nx 30mm pancake.

What pancake lens are you going for?

I've got no idea about them so will have to watch some video reviews :-)

The 27 is a fun little lens, and nice and sharp too. Use it much like a 35 on FX, though it's more like 40mm equiv, bit tighter

I did look at the 23mm f1.4, after cashback the price was a relatively decent 530 quid. Then thought how much do I really use my other primes, hardly ever is the answer, so kept my powder dry for another day

HI all, right the X-T2 appears to have resolved it's former glitch and all is working great (with and without the battery grip), so must have just been a glitch.

As this is my very first Fuji, coming from 35 years of Nikons and 3 years of M4/3 are there any links to tips and hints as to how to set this bad boy up and what's the best functions etc. to assign to the various buttons ?

I switched to Fuji after over 10 yrs of Nikon dslr. It does take a little getting used to, but tbh, just sit down and fiddle with everything in the menu. There is no right or wrong way to set your camera up, set it to your personal preference. I have timer, film simulations, AF point select and shutter types on my direction pad for example, this may not suit someone else. It's also just the XT-1, the 2 has extra options.

Here's a quick one to get you started up:

Thats been my issues - I found that cracking deal on the 27mm the other day and despite it being so good though - how much will I actually use it?

Hey maybe the GAS is actually subsiding :D

It works out £210 with cashback at the moment too...

Would this lens not be as good as say a 35 prime?

It's not that it isn't as good, it's a different type of lens.

The 35mm will offer better shallow DOF/Bokeh, it allows you in a little closer, it's better for portraits and let's in that extra bit of light. It is sharper than the 27, but it's possibly sharper than most Fuji lenses. If it's the F2 you're talking? it's almost silent in operation, which is nice, and it's weather resistant.

The 27 is more stealthy [apart fro it's noisey AF], is more ideal for street photography, it's bright enough for most normal conditions and makes your set up as light as you're going to get. The lens weighs just 78g! It is the least intimidating lens to use when shooting out and about, people don't pay any heed, so it is better for candids. It's sexier than the 35 [either version] Makes an XT-1/2 look like a Big Bro' to the X100T

Now how to hide it....

In plain sight is easiest and possibly least visible! Stick it on your body and don't make a big deal about having a new toy.

To be honest, the best thing to do is to use it with the "out of box" settings for a couple of weeks then develop your own style. There's so many combinations that I have left mine mainly as standard. That way I don't confuse myself!

Y'know that is very true. Unless your missus has a big interest in photography gear too, she won't notice if you stick it straight onto your camera. I know mine wouldn't, she knows 'kind of' what gear I own, but she'd not spot a new addition. Got me thinking now ...
