Yea I did some googling and I've seen other people mentioning the same, but for me they just sent an email with the below, so maybe they changed their policy?

That's annoying. I also heard that they've stopped the fixed price servicing. Sadly it sounds like they are following the likes of Nikon and Canon in reducing the quality of support they offer in the UK.

Indeed.

One of the reasons I have had confidence in spending on Fuji X cameras and lenses over the last few years has been the feeling that they offer robust support. Fuji UK service have often been mentioned positively in these and other forums.

My experience of having a lens repaired earlier this year where packaging was sent, the lens collected, and the repair undertaken at fixed cost was actually very reassuring - and ironically given that the lens shouldn't have failed ( ... it was not long out of warranty) still left me feeling good about the brand.

Without that reassurance ? Well it will make me think a lot harder about spending on new kit - or on high end used kit..

Hi all,

I'm thinking of replacing my 16-80 lens. I've never been overly impressed with it so I think it's time for an upgrade. I guess the new 16-50 'kit lens' is the obvious choice - reasonably priced and lightweight and apparently good quality. Anyone here use one?

I have thought about the 16-55ii but it's heavier and more expensive.

Anyone able to help me spend my money? :)

Lens will be paired with a Xt5. I also have the 10-24 and 70-300.

I got one and use it a lot of the time. Not a pixel peeper but I am really happy with mine.

Just to throw a little spanner into the mix. Have you thought about the MK1 16-55, or are you mainly concerned about the weight?
 
Also keen to hear thoughts on this - I would like to replace my 18-55 and 16-50 and 16-55II are my shortlist.
 
I would also consider the Sigma 18-50

When I moved from the X-T20 to the X-T50 I had both cameras and kit lenses in the house for about a week.

Quality wise, there is nothing in it between the Mki and MkII kit lenses. However, the weight of the MkII in combination with the fact its internal zoom makes it much easier to live with. Plus it’s a hair shorter than the MkI.

I felt like the MKI build quality was better but again, not much in it.

Also - the added width on the MKII is really handy.

I've had Sigma and Tamron lenses in the past, on a different system, and was always happy with them. I think the lack of weather-sealing rules them out though.

The 16-55mk1 is a bit of a lump to lug about but is available for a very decent price secondhand so it's on the list to think about.

I might get myself to LCE in Chester on Monday and have a try of the 16-55 and 16-50 and see how I get on.

The 17-70 is weather sealed. It's what sold it for me - Constant 2.8, OIS, and weather sealed.

I live near Chester, I’m sure we can sort out a couple of hours demoing my 16-50 kit lens if you fancy

I've more or less decided that I'll go for the 16-55f2.8. Just need to decide on the newer version or a 2nd hand copy of my mk1.

The 16-80 is worth so little as a trade in that I may as well keep it as a lighter option and have the 16-55 for 'proper' days out with the camera.

I'm sure I'll change my mind a few more times though.... :D

From all the bits I've read on the mkii. Imagine quality is a negotiable upgrade, hence sticking to my mki. Although initially I did find it heavy, as I've been used to primes. It didn't take long at all to get used to it.
Honestly though, I'm not sure which route I'd take if I didn't already have a mki. But knowing me, I'd probably bite the bullet and get the new version. It does look like the first few had zoom ring issues, so be careful.

Most of the recent stuff I've posted up here, has been taken with the mki ;)
 
What I suspected would happen....well it's happening. Getting photos I wouldn't normally just because the wee camera is so accessible and "ready to go" with zero effort. Really happy I got it. Still massively prefer the Nikon for when out in the landscape. Here's a few from around the house...

Nikon Z8. It's a phenomenal bit of kit. I pair it with an 85mm f1.2 which is an incredible combo for more of the sort of stuff I just posted, but way dreamier. Trouble is, that combo is HUGE. Next fave lens is the 100-400 for landscape photography and then the 40mm f2.0 which basically makes the Z8 the same as the X100VI more or less. Still, a bit bigger but not so big that I can justify the X100 purchase. AI also have the 105 macro lens but I don't use because frankly I'm s*** at macro photography.
