Just finished watching this on C4 :shake: can anyone explain the point of the programme  Sorry I seem to have totally missed the message here! Why use an actual living person? ....

a recent case that people can relate to perhaps?

OK thanks! :) But I still missed the point? was it the death sentence, kiddy fiddling or what

Maybe about Mob mentality and how everything seems to be trial by media in the UK

Thanks ... That was my impression too :( Something is definitely going wrong when a TV channel can show such crap IMHO ....

they don't care about whats in the program, they're only bothered about shifting the advertising slots. Which is why programs are becoming more and more sensationalised. Its the same with Newspapers and tripe like Jeremy Kyle

Why didn't they do it about other well known kiddie fiddlers like Michael Jackson( saint), Sir Elton John (rent boys) , Bill Wyman OBE (mandy smith) (Stones) R Kelly (r&b) not to mention the Krankies! (I saw the Krankie bloke snogging Wee Jimmy Krankie in Glasgow a few years ago! sick or what?)
I can't stand any fiddlers but to single out The paeda of the gang was a bit unfair, also why waste time money hanging? just shoot em and get it over with!
Personally I think they should have hung Ian Huntley (scum) or any of the other scum in prison.

The actor that played the part was very good though, dont you think....

i was going to say that. his acting skills were top rate imho !

I think the point of the programme was to provoke thought about capital punishment.
They obviously used Gary Glitter (even though he is a dried up glam rocker from the 70's) because he was once a high profile person.
The idea of introducing the death sentence for people committing crimes outside the UK was an interesting one.
If they had based the story on someone like Ian Huntley, the programme might have made a bigger impact.
Overall I liked the idea and the actor who played Glitter was very good.
I think there were some flaws in the story, especially the reason why Brussels had bottled it and let the UK reintroduce capital punishment.
Another interesting point was that underneath it all, we are still the same within and just like out ancestors, we would enjoy public hangings.
Obviously this does not apply to the entire public but it's something I have also said for a very long time.

I was surprised that the statistics showed that 54% of Brits were in favour of capital punishment, I would have expected the figure to be a lot higher.

You may all be right about it being lousy programming - but you all watched it, didn't you...lol
