tbh, most places (not just temples) in India have rats everywhere. The busier the place the less they seem to fear humans. They give me the willies (n)

Of course the more discarded food there is about the bigger the rat population, people tend to move away from them, rather than attack them, the rats quickly learn this and become "socialised"

Yep, you're definitely right there. We've been to India a couple of times & even though you see them everywhere, mainly at night, I never felt comfortable when I saw them.

Thinking back, I was more bothered by visiting a monkey temple near Jaipur. The bloody things would grab hold of you & search your bags & pockets looking for food. I tried to shove one away & it just bared it's teeth & growled :wideyed: as if to say `you wait until I've finished mugging ya`. Not worth risking a bite or scratch out there! :cautious:

My wife has wanted to visit the temple ever since she heard about it. She used to feed wild rats in her garden but, of course, they started bringing all their children and relatives. I persuaded her to stop before her nosey neighbours did something revolting, like poisoning them, but her karma should be good...:)

You've obviously never seen a scabby one, like the ones that hang around landfill sites and transfer stations.
They most certainly are not pretty!

I do admire their survivalist skills though.
