The BBC has a report of a German tourist falling to his death while taking a photo at Machu Pichu. I was sympathetic until I read that:

Oliver Park, 51, ignored safety signs and warnings from wardens and went into a restricted area close to the edge of a cliff on Wednesday, officials say.

They say he tried to pose for a photograph of himself leaping as if in flight but lost his footing. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-36680663

I once got stupidly close to stepping backwards over a sea cliff while setting up a photo, so that's making me wonder how near others have come to a "Darwin Award"?

Taking shots of horses in a field with an electric fence round it. Touched the fence with a metal barrelled zoom lens. Luckily I didn't fry the camera but it made me hop about a bit.

Attacked by a Leopard.

Entirely my fault, I had been warned it could get it's paw through the fence.
I think you're in the lead so far!

Several people at glacier point, Yosemite last year ignoring all warning signs and walking right to the ledge for selfies. Huge drop below them but had to get that one upmanship photo for faceberk.

Mines not in the same league as yours but I got clawed by a European wildcat at a zoo in Switzerland doing the same thing holding onto the fence wire to steady my lens :D

Oh I've seen them do that too....turns my stomach even thinking about it.

There is a lot to be said for being an unmitigated coward. I expect to die of extreme old age with a lot of boring photos to my name.

Me also

Although while taking pictures of seals around the calf of Mann I was warned about the tides cross tides and the "races"
But of course I knew better then....
It was imminence fun in a 13 feet speed boat with 10+ feet waves breaking above me.

As you guessed, I did live to tell the tale thankfully, and have been a boring old fart ever since :D

Getting my finger nipped by a weasel, trying to slow it down for a mate at the BWC, little sods have sharp teeth :(
At least he got the picture (y)

Nothing life threatening, just painful.
Tripped and fell head first into stinging nettles on the edge of a poppy field a few years ago.

Oh man, I LOVE Yosemite.
Have you been in the winter? If not I can highly recommend it. Just don't try getting in via Tioga Pass!

right on the icy edge

and I don't even consider that to be particularly dangerous. One more step and it would certainly be bye bye.

I think the scariest I got to was photographing cityscapes near some humanoid like creatures.

That wass closer to the edge than I got, but at least you were facing the right way! (y)

I used to go out metal detecting and one of our group - a real know-all - decided he'd go into the next field. We told him the fence he was about to climb over was electrified. He gave us his pompous professor look and said as he reached the fence. "It only works with animals. It doesn't work with humaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrghhhhhhhhssss!!!

I managed to electrocute myself a couple of years ago whilst taking off a soft box from a cheap Chinese import copy of a Bowens studio head. It obviously wasn't earthed properly and my arm and the soft box both flew across the room. Moral of that is don't buy cheap no name copies of high voltage equipment!!

Long story short, as I've mentioned before, a mate of mine nipped behind a very large tree, to take a leak back to the tree, p***ing on the fence ...
Yep you guessed it, I only realised that it was electrified when he squealed like little girl, I was so concerned that I nearly wet my self laughing.

Broke my ankle jumping down from a wall having just taken a photo, been thoroughly soaked in the sea, fell off or over numerous objects numerous times, these are all more misfortunes than stupid though I suppose.

Years ago at the RAC rally I stood on the edge of a wet slippy bank, as the car approached I started to slip, cue one picture of the front wing and then a muddy front as I skited down head first, IFIRC it was Chris Lord in a Mazda RX7.

Sounds daft enough, and a special mention for use of the word "skited". (y)

Not quite up there with the pros but:

Had foxes in the street the other night. Tried taking a photo with my phone's camera. Didn't realise the flash was on. Managed to startle myself enough that I jumped back, the missus woke up, the foxes ran away and all I got was a photo of the curtain netting.

Taking a landscape shot across a farmers field, telephoto lens, getting too dark to handhold, no tripod, no probs I'll just rest the lens on this wire fence...it was electrified!

Shocking experience

I know it well!

Gets quite lively at times.

An old snap from a 'gentle' wander!

Grand Canyon 2013. On a bitterly cold day we were at a viewing point ( guard rail, flat ground) When we saw this bloke climb over a fence onto a very narrow ice/snow covered ledge and walk out to the position you see him in the shots

I have no idea as to why he thought he would get a better shot from this location with his point and shoot than from where I was standing. A slip would have seen him fall 2500 feet, plenty of time to think about his foolishness.
