Don't you just love the way people think of others before they do something?

To inaugerate this year's award, we start with an excellent bit of considerate (not) parking in Exeter's Queen Street, this morning...

Let's see your samples.

Perhaps in your condemnation of his parking you could enlighten us on where else he could park?

The biggest problem I actually see is not the van's parking but all the sandwich boards.

Well, idiot that I am, I always thought pavements were for people. :D

Duh silly! :P

To be honest I usually hate parked cars fully on the path but in this instance the path is mahoosive and even with it parked there it looks like pushchairs and wheelchairs etc csn get past just fine ;)

In this case, not. The bus in the top picture had to come nearly to the pavement to pass another vehicle parked on the double yellows across the road.

Mind you, it's the fault of all those pedestrians who insist on using the streets, instead of riding around in cars! :D

But that's not the posties fault, that's whoever was parked on the double yellow lines surely?!

It says "Loading Bay" where he's parked or "loading only" perhaps he was loading or indeed Un-loading.

Actually, that's the deliberate mistake. The idiot council has marked the loading bay over the pavement, the cafe has dumped tables over the rest of the pavement and then people with cameras take up what's left.

Ridiculous isn't it? :D

Exactly. It looks like a space you can load, and what else are delivery drivers supposed to do?

Get rid of the signs.

Depends why he/she was parked there and for how long ?
You know we do have to do pick ups deliveries to shops etc and parking isn't a;ways that easy :(

A quick meander along said street via google magic, shows that the postie is parked in a perfectly acceptable place.
Nothing to see here but someone fancying a bit of a moan.

I am more concerned with the guy in the light jacket with his back to us, next to the van - he needs a haircut ASAP:eek:

So you show us a picture that only tells half the story. You need to get a wide angle lens to get the whole "picture";)

If you look they started at the top, maybe he changed his mind:)

On Facebook there is a parking like a t*** in my town page. Some beggers belief.

With a Daily Mail reader hat on there is a simple answer...

Nuke Exeter, problem solved and probably get a few illegal migrants at the same time......

They are. Just like loading bays (like the PO van's parked in) are for loading and unloading. In theory, the only traffic on that stretch of Queen Street is busses and taxis. The building site opposite is far more of a PITA than a delivery van!

The amount of chairs, tables and sandwich boards is the most annoying thing.
That and people with cameras snapping a perfectly parked Royal Mail van.

You're quite right about that. I think all cameras should be banned!

Hold on. Perhaps I'd better think that out again? :D

That's one of my favourite coffee shops

In Exeter or in general? If in Exeter, I prefer Coffee #1 on Roman Walk, especially their Vanilla Bean. Cakes are nice there too!

Next time you're there, suggest they get rid if all the crap out front (y)

I wonder if they have the necessary permissions for the A boards.

Exeter's overflowing with coffee shops and tearooms.

At the non-coolistic end of the scale, I quite like the Coffee Cup in Cowick Street and the Hidden Treasure Tea Room on New Bridge Street (their Fruit Scones are grade A). :)

The hint may be in the photo.
Red van, Royal Mail logo on the back?

Ingrid works for RM (hence the "we" in her post.)
I think she's fairly well aware of the van's significance.

We don't have these problems in Wales 85% of the shops are boarded up anyway :runaway:

....

i think devon coffee is an independent but i normally go to coffee #1 in taunton as they do a good seasonal espresso - full court press in bristol is my favourite shop within an hours travel from home

I used to work for NCP as an on-street civil enforcement officer after they took over from the traffic wardens (please don't hold it against me, I was one of the nice ones who was always getting into trouble with the bosses* and council for using my discretion).

I would say that around 80% of the tickets I issued were down to peoples stupidity or laziness (e.g. plenty of free parking bays a couple of car lengths away but they just had to park on the double yellows outside a shop because they couldn't be bothered to walk that far) and that the image in the picture above is nothing compared to some of the stuff that I have seen. In one case, a car parked between the junctions on a busy roundabout that blocked off traffic coming from one direction and prevented buses from using it to turn around. (The roundabout was also the termination point of their routes so very busy.)

Incidentally, parking restrictions do not apply to Royal Mail vehicles. (This might have changed during the years since I left but I very much doubt it.)

* I didn't get into trouble for this one but I did ticket one bosses car after his partner had parked incorrectly, halfway over a single yellow iirc. :D

Try telling that to the idiot who put a wheel clamp on a van that was picking up from a post office, got upset when it was cut off ;)

Just a tad, I occasionally drive one identical to that, when I can't avoid it !!!!

Isn't it just! Spoiled for choice - and some of them even serve decent coffee! Mrs Nod's the coffee fiend, I'd usually rather make my own and save a couple of quid per cup but sometimes meet up with friends in town and would rather have a coffee than a drink during the day.

I always seem to incorporate a couple of decent espressos into pretty much every photo outing i do - I have thought about getting an espresso machine for home use but I just consider coffee as part of the cost of my photography hobby

Given that I did rather misjudge my original posting, what do people think of this example of parking?

Tail gates open, they are loading / unloading not parked ( maybe )
But yes, I'll give you that, if they are indeed parked :D
