How many on here do the complete process,
I.E take photo's on film, develop and print themselves, having full control over the entire process.
Interested as I have got my enlarger going and had a play at printing today.

I do, I don't have my own darkroom/enlarger (yet...) but I use the darkroom in the Students Union basement for printing.
I only send C-41 and E-6 off for developing

Nice to see. I have contact printed before, but I had a much stronger connection to the finished article that a digital file or an inkjet print. Much more of "I made that" feeling
Anyone else feel the same?

Mart

In another life I used to but now I don't have space for a darkroom or the kit that goes with it, I'm happy with my 'figital' compromise I process my b&w films at home but then scan the negs myself and have also printed on my inkjet printer, they don't have the character of a 'proper' print but I'm reasonably happy with them.

the final image from a scan then digital print is very good ,,,Andysnap will be along sometime this century with the results of a little experiment we did ,,,digital print v optical print

ANDY WHERE ARE YOU ?????????

I develop film at home and then print it in the darkroom at the college where I do an evening class.

Am in the process of building a darkroom at home...should be ready for use by the end of March.

With 35mm I dev it at home then normally scan it, but since my scanner wont do 120 film, I'm stuck printing those in my loft... or will be once I stop fluffing the developing of it

Thanks for the replies.
I wont dispute that a scan and print is very good, but there is something about a true print (didn't they have something to do with film!!) that is just great.

Steve, where do you go to evening class? No where around here does a suitable course.

I'm doing a City & Guilds in photography as an evening class at the Manchester College, Northenden campus.

Loving every minute of it, and the tutor is great at allowing me to come in during the daytime to use the darkroom when it's not needed for full time students.

Thanks Steve, do you have any more details? I could make Manchester in a evening.

Ta,

I'm waiting till I get some decent B&W frames then i'm going to go along to the local darkroom and do some prints. Its been years since I last printed any thing.

I finished the level 2 http://www.themanchestercollege.ac.uk/adults/courses/principles-location-photography-2

two weeks ago. That was on a Monday night for 16 weeks at 3 hours per night.

I'm starting level 3 now, and the first lesson is tomorrow night....same 3 hours for 16 weeks just a different night.

Oddly the level 3 doesnt seem to appear on their website.

The level 2 started off as very basic...starting from scratch. The tutor said I could have just started at level 3 with the knowledge I already had but I decided to go back to basics and was glad I did as it's been all very useful.

The campus is located 2 minutes from where the M60 crosses the M56, so quite easy to get to from either motorway.

Best thing for me has been access to darkroom (and studio if wanted). It's also great being with a group of photogrpahy students who all want to learn and are excited about photography...there is no jaded cynicism or gear snobbery...just enthusiasm to learn.

Thanks Steve. Might give them a call and see if I could join level 3.

Cheers,
Mart
