It gets quoted on here so often that if you did a search on all of the threads with it in, you could probably piece together yor own copy for free :lol:!

I'll probably get slated for this, if not thrown off the site for blasphemy against the holy grail that is 'Understanding Exposure by that Peterson Dude', but I found the book to be pants. Basic ain't the word for it, and I learnt more by asking a few questions on here. Sure, I probably ****ed a few people off by asking the same questions every other noob does, but it was far more helpful than the money I wasted on that book. :coat:

It is basic, but I found it gave me the understanding to quickly improve my images. Yes you can get the same from here, but sometimes it just helps to be able to turn to the book than search the forums.. :thumbs:

I didn't learn anything technical from it per se, more an insight into 'seeing' a shot perhaps

Does that make sense?

Snap!

Don't think it taught me anything technical either, maybe it just confirmed to me that I knew what aperture and shutter speed was all about. What I did gain from it was a better understanding of how to expose a shot, where to take the metering from as such and maybe a better thought process leading up to taking a shot.

My copy arrived early this morning.
Got to admit to being a tad disappointed. It's not what I expected.
I don't think the title correctly describes the contents or at least not what I expected to find in a book with that title.
Plenty nice big pics in though (quite a lot of blank spaces too).

It is more a book about inspiration.
 
I bought my copy after reading recommendations on here and i too was a little disapointed. It's not a bad book, it is actually rather good, but aimed at absolute novices and had very little to offer someone who has been taking photo's for a few months.

So i'd recommend it to a total beginner but my advice would be dont buy it without looking through it first and comparing to what else is available.
 
just got mine bought from andysnap what a great guy and from what ive seen the book seems a good read very interesting thanks andysnap :clap::thumbs:
 
I think my 5d has already read it, processed it and bought the lens cap. :lol:

It's always a worry when something is recommended as it does build up expectation.

I personally found Ansel Adams and his zone system very inspiring. Come to think of it I can't seem to find the book. Must dig it out again.

I certainly found it useful. My camera only has a spot meter so the tips about metering from the sky made my life a lot easier. It's not an expensive book 2nd hand so you're not going to lose much by getting a copy.
