Yes
It may not be everyones cup of tea - but 'The Bill' has been one of my favourite shows for many many years - and today ITV announced they are killing it off!!!!

It's not often I write to TV shows to complain - but have written to ITV today saying that doing this as a cost cutting exercise is so wrong...

They'll be losing me as a viewer altogether as it's the only show I watch on ITV.

Does anyone agree that this is one of the silliest things they can do right now?

(I appreciate not everyone will be a fan! but want to see if I'm on my own here)

Sorry not a fan so no problem for me.

The Bill (imho) should have been axed years ago, just like Taggart.

In both cases they took an enjoyable, gritty, (sort of) realistic series and sanitized it,turning it into a soap opera.

thats when i stopped watching the bill.. i wanted proper police stories not a soap.. when they announced the change in direction they killed it.. a perfect example of why not to fix somehting thats working.

I'd have to agree that I quite liked The Bill way back but haven't been able to get into it all in recent years, it's probably for the best IMHO.

Like a lot of series. Episodes were continually churned out long after the idea had been exhausted.

About time too now I hope someone has the guts to take Constipation street off with it its so far past its sell by date same old story lines day after day

:plusone:, and I wish the BBC would put Bleakenders to pasture as well.

So it looks like Chris is the only one still watching The Bill then. No wonder they're axing it

The Bill isn't too bad. My mum watches it a lot and I will occasionally sit in and watch it, as opposed to walking out as soon as the theme tunes for Constipation street and Bleakenders starts. The new style isn't too bad, it's moved away from the soapyness that it started to get into before it changed. They have pretty much taken away the only thing I actually watch on ITV. BBC and Channel 4 it is then (thank god for the TV licence and public broadcaster code! :p)

The Bill should be axed, it's nothing like real life. You never see any of the coppers on there standing by a one-way system handing out tickets for non-compliance with the revenue generating laws.

In real life, that is what real Police work is.

Could be argued they could do better things if people stopped driving up one way systems the wrong way then. Like mod's could do more work on improving the forum rather than sorting out petty squabbles and deals going sour in the classifieds....it is just the way of the world...and a world that no one would watch if they made it into a drama.

I stopped watching it when they told me it wasn't real..............

I really like the bill, didn't know they where axing it though!

They first cut it down to 1 a week, then change the way it is filmed etc (which i didn't mind) and then they decide to cut it.

Gona miss having something to watch in the evening that isn't based on some street where they run the same story line so many times it gets boring.

Don't watch any soaps, wouldn't miss any of them but you can be sure whatever replaces it will be some reality/star search/dating 5 minute attention span drivel.

I stopped watching it a while back, as it got so mundane and boring and same-ish.
Just lately, since this new style of filming it has really picked up again.

I now enjoy watching it again, and will be quite gutted if it goes.......

Of course a series about coppers is going to get boring and sameish .....

never mind the bill, FOX have axed 24 the best tv prog ever

Good (re: 24).

As for the Bill, they lost me as a viewer after the Don Beech stuff (which was excellent btw). Once they introduced a copper named Gabriel, they lost all my respect.

Don Beech - Excellent, I had a bit of a soft spot for Kerry Holmes who latterly turned up in the go compare adverts where the bloke brings home a BMW z4! There was an episode where she was dressed up for an undercover sting in a casino and she looked rather fetching..... (I'll get my coat):cuckoo:

Sheddy - you seem to have an in depth knowledge of the way the boys in blue work - may I suggest you do a 'fly on the wall' documentary with your intimate knowledge - you never know, ITV might just see it as an ideal replacement for 'The Bill' ??

That's an excellent idea ... oh, wait a minute, the Plod are already doing it for themselves and theres a plethora to chose from:

Police, Camera, Action
Traffic Cops
Cops with Cameras
Police Interceptors

And that's just some of many. Sometimes they take a break from work avoidance to hand out a few revenue generating tickets for such foul deeds as not wearing a seatbelt or dropping an ice cream cone - that teaches the real villains a lesson, doesn't it. Keeps the streets safe too. God Bless 'em.

But it's soon back to the real toil of making Police reality shows.

Sometimes you just have to scratch the surface a little, and remove the rose tinted specs to see whats really happening - Im not seeing many crown courts shut down due to lack of usage though..... or is it different in your neck of the woods ?
Do agree about the reality programmes though - they make a mint from the TV companies - dont see any increase in my pay though !!!!
:'(

I USED to watch it all the time when I was younger, but when they got rid of my favourite characters I stopped watching it.

The old school with Des Taviner were the best

Looks like my fight to save it is going to have limited succcess then ;)

You should all go back and watch it a few times more before it's axed to be sure you don't want it back...

(Then with the increased viewing figures - they might bring it back)
