Right this should stir up a lively debate. Men or Women.... which are the better photographers and why?

Well, I am not going to be the first to answer in depth, but I'll say women, as they feel more of the emotion that lifts a picture out of the ordinary - Clearly, it depends on the type of pictures, but for me, people are one of the most important subjects, and it is women who seem to get the best from a subject in portraiture - AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED...
Right, over to the rest of you to tell me I am a fool...

Bored Alby? :D

My answer; Photography is without borders, gender or creed.

Edit; Although I have to say that when it comes to flower toging the women of TP win hands down. :)

Ermmmmm Ermmmmm Hummmmm ..............

I think my catheter bag needs changing Im off.......

Depends on the type of photography involved.

Male and Femal both have strength, and look at the world differently. For example, the natural "mothering" instinc may make them better suited to Child / Baby portraiture, where the natural "techiness" / "Geekiness" may make men better at Motorsport etc.

So to answer the question....

Neither / Both :D

If your auntie had bo**ocks she'd be your uncle. I don't think there's a difference personally.

Now let's talk about driving, much much easier....... :D

i am tempted to say men just to stir things up but i value my pride so ill be honest. i think its the same as driving theres good and bad in both sexes, yes i am a coward lol

There are probably more male togs than female, but as you know, quantity≠quality

Pah...

It's obviously a daft question asked to raise an argument

(Nothing wrong with that though :D)

If I try to put my serious head on...

I think the idea that women are more empathetic hence better at baby shots is crap; men are more into sport so they are better there is crap also

Togging is one of the great equalisers of the sexes - each can be as good as any of the other sex at any tog opportunity - perhaps motorsport is dominated by men & perhaps baby portraiture is dominated by women - that's not a natural aptitude - merely a preference of interest

A good tog is a good tog - their sex has NOTHING to do with it in any subject

DD

But having an interest in a given subject must surely put you at an advantage over someone with no interest, and you will therefore get more out of the subject at hand

Well I can see some of the Gents here are trembling at the thought of saying the wrong thing

i don't think sex matters personally

Absolutely it does - but having boobs or a widge has nothing to do with whether you can photograph it well does it - or even if you're interested in it or not. I love shooting kids, despite being overweight - I have no tits, nor do I feel tits would give me more empathy for the subject

A good tog will know what settings to use and when to press the button regardless of the need for a bra

DD

I'd say that as a rule women are the better snappers. I however, am the exception that proves that rule. :D

SEOT.

I think it's quite the same of both Gender's, it is who knows what they are doing which in that case, Could mean boy or girl.

Tony :)

How times have changed, in my old mum and dads days if this question had of been asked the man would have just said men of course as the women are far to busy with the cooking and cleaning. Now men won't even jokingly say women are crap and men are great. I think we all know there are and has been some great photographers modern and ancient of both gender. Men are better though

I think the first problem to resolve is how to judge a good photographer. Logic would say that we would judge the output but for every image that's taken, some people will like it and some won't.

What makes a good photographer then...
Being there at the right moment (not by chance)?
Getting it right first time?
Seeing something that others don't?
Instinctively knowing which settings to use...or trying several different ones everytime?

We can't progress with the original question until we define the criteria.

Bob

Hmmmm....We could always sponsor Marcel through a sex change and see if his togging skills improve or deteriorate.

Hi,

jeez that's an easy one...mmm... errrr..... oh hang on I'll ask the Boss

Mike.

Women take better photos with less equipment. The reason for this is that we have to as we are not strong enough to lug around all the equipment you men do. No rude comments on the last sentence Janice:nono::naughty:

Of course we don't say it as a joke, we're serious :P

Good photography isn't about factors that are influenced by gender... the things that make good pictures can be...

Oh my word!

I do have to agree with DD on this one though. I'm female and I'd be blooming hopeless at baby photography I have about as much connection with ikkle sprogs as your average housebrick. I can, however, refit valves in a cylinder head quite nicely thank you :D

So the empathy thing when it comes to babies goes right out the window with me.

I do love to try to capture something of the person in a portrait though, rather than go for something formulaic, I like to try to go beyond that.

As for who is best, honestly, it makes no difference whether male, female, young or old. And we can always find an obliging chap to carry our gear.:schtum:

The best photographers I have ever seen are all men, with one exception.

The best photographers I know personally are all women, with one exception.

So chalk me up as 'I don't know'.

Show me a race track I will show you some good pics, but for gawds sake dont ask me to photograph sproglets :gag:

This is going to sound a bit stereotypical, but I think it's a bit of both.

Men tend to grasp the technical side of things ie. how stuff works better/quicker than SOME women. Where as women, having a more sensitive side, tend to find nicer photo opertunities better than SOME men.

I think this debate is a bit of a 'which came first, the chicken or the egg?'

I'm glad you said SOME woman.:nono:

i find photography more about knowledge and money rather than Man vs Women, For example Sports is usually doninated by males and they are the more powerul sex and most sports obviusly require power in one way or another, but photography is very neutral

I think women have a better eye for a shot however i do feel a man can produce a better shot technically but only because of our in-ability to mutli task.

Don't be daft - of course men can multi task. They can watch the tele, use the remote control, lol on the couch and drink a glass of beer - all at the same time.:D:D
