Just purchased a Lensmaster Gimbal head that will have a ef 300mm 2.8 lens sitting on it when I acquire one.

In the market for a tripod that can take the weight of this combo. Would be willing to spend a few hundred quid on a 3 sectioned carbon firbre tripod that may be small enough to tuck into my suitcase.

I have seen many and read loads of reviews but you can't beat user recommendations, so hear i am asking for the best tripod in this catergory that fits my setup.

Thanks in advance.

There are loads of very good tripods that fit the bill but hard to say it would be the best money can buy.For me the Gitzo 5541 LS that i have is a superb buy but outside your budget of a couple of hundred pounds. For your lens and head i would look at the Gitzo 3 series tripods if you want a superb tripod.

If its to go into a suitcase and being carbon fibre 3 section one at that I do wonder about the stability of such when fully extended. Just something else to consider before purchase.

If you want the best is has to be a Gitzo, the others just copy them anyway.
