I know the question of what laptop for photo editing as been asked a million times ,but i am looking for one with dedicated graphics and large RAM that i do know ,what i would like to know is what screen res should i be looking for around the £650 mark ,i could go higher but would need tp purchase on buy now pay later ,probably up to £1000, i do like the mac pro 15inch but at £1700 its a bit expensive for a laptop....would also prefer win7..Any help would be apreciated .Thanks

Apple are great, but so are pc's so it depends what you want really! If you want an ultimate gpu whore of a laptop, look at getting a razer blade...as far as windows pc's go... They're awesome but cost some ££

I'd just look for a 1080p screen and a fast processor.

You have to be careful with processors now - there are so many different variations and sub types, I find it easier just to look them up on http://www.cpubenchmark.net/ and compare that way.

A machine with dedicated graphics probably won't do that much with regards to photo processing as applications like lightroom don't use a GPU, they rely on the man machine CPU. There is some benefit to dedicated graphics in that it won't use the system ram as it has its own.

The biggest bottleneck will be the storage. If using a conventional hard disk most machines are still using 5400rpm drives, you may find a 7200rpm drive which is obviously better. The best solution is an SSD, this will be many many times quicker than a conventional platter disk but keep in mind capacities are small. The biggest SSD currently available is 512Gb and is about £300 on its own!
Questions also remain over reliability.

You can get laptops that have both an SSD and conventional disk, this may be the best solution.

It might be worth considering a half decent laptop and a decent monitor for processing?
