For a while I've been meaning to take a picture of an old boat in Weymouth. It's hull was ruptured in places, it had trees growing out of it, and it was covered in grafiti. All in it was a shot I really wanted, but I kept putting it off, waiting for a cloudy day with lots of depth in the sky...

...to my horror, I saw yesterday it's been removed, and the area it was in flattened by the council. It's a real shame as it really was a curious landmark, being a good 2 or 3 miles inland, and nowhere near a river.

I'm well gutted, I really wish I'd taken the shot when I had the chance!

That old saying of ""Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today" rings strong here :(

Don't I know, I was kicking myself...not a safe thing to do when driving :D

Hmmm .... bet you were kicking yourself... but it's easy to forget things can and will change.

Interesting thread topic.

I still kick myself for such a lost moment which was more than 10, maybe nearly 12 years back...

A friend & I were out "dog training" (working dogs) in an area that we
had been many times before, sometimes I take a camera sometimes I don't.
This time, only a few weeks ago, and of course sans cam'ra,
a wild red kite flew over head and circled a couple of times
at no more than 40 feet.
Never seen one there before or since

the last time I went down to Norfolk I had a day out at Cley by myself, I was already carrying my binoculars and telescope so didn't really want to carry any more kit ... I was on my way down to the hides and 5 bearded tits landed on the boardwalk, about 15-20 ft ahead of me and stayed there for at least 5 mins ... I''ve never had such a good view of them before :'(

On holiday on our boat in Croatia at sea struggling with the sails when we passed an old small local fishing boat. Hairy fisherman in the buff standing at the tiller and a seagull standing on the stempost, by the time I had dived below and got my camera the gull had flown and fisherman had grabbed his pants. :bang:

Gonna struggle to beat that one.
But, I am going to go and take some of an old car this week now. (just watch, it'll be gone when I get there)

One day I will be stuck in a tunnel opposite a tube going the other way and will manage to get my camera out in time and take a picture of the people opposite staring at the people opposite them.

I will then very probably be arrested for terrorist reconnaisence or whatever, but hey - it will be worth it.

I currently live about 45 minutes away from New York City. I had noticed for a couple of mornings that the sky was the most beautiful pinky colour in the mornings and the conditions were due to be the same on the Saturday morning. I left my house at 4:30 am and from liberty state park, which faces the rear of the statue of liberty ,I took pictures of the sunrise coming over the manhattan skyline and the statue of liberty. Saturday morning is when the cruise liners come into NYC so I took pictures of them passing the statue and with the skyline in the background. There is also an old railway station that has been partially restored and serves as a ticket seller for the ferry to Ellis island and the statue. The station has been totally restored but the platforms and canopies haven't, its a great place to take photographs. by mid morning the light was harsh and I'd been out about three hours. I couldn't wait to get home and view my photos - opened the memory card door to remove the card and maybe you guessed it - no card in there :bang:

My camera is now set to not take photographs without a card being present, I had only had the camera a few days and was still getting to grips with it. I could not bring myself to get up and try and recreate the pictures as i haven't seen the same sky colouring since. I also review my phots on the camera frequently to ensure they are being captured.
