Yes
There seem to be an awful lot of music fans gracing TP, so I'm sure some of you will have been to some pretty special gigs over the years.

I saw Maximo Park at Liverpool Uni on Saturday night as was just blown away. An amazing gig, so full of energy from both the band and the crowd in a pretty small venue. By far the best live performance I've ever been to (although I'm off to see Oasis, supported by Kasabian and The Enemy in Manchester soon, which should be be pretty special).

So, whats the best gig you've ever been to?

Cancer Bats the other week :D Bloody awesome

Peter Gabriel, the Us tour 1992 Glasgow SECC.

Never seen anyone put so much into a performance as that guy did.

Daphne and Celeste, rocking hard at Reading festival.
Dean;)

Had to get rid of the bottle of pee pee somehow:lol:

Seriously, best gig was Hyde Park Calling a couple of years back, with The Who headlining.

Dean:)

mmmm, so many!

Probably the stand out was seeing Iron Maiden do a secret warm up gig as the Angels & The Gamblers at The Oval in Norwich - 450 people in a 400 capacity for a gig well over 2 hours long - stunning
But then first time seeing Queensryche at Nottingham Royal Concert Hall back on the Road To Promised Land tour was amazing
And seeing Fates Warning play Camden Underworld a couple of years ago when I never thought they'd come to the UK again was brilliant
And Riverside at the same venue the following week were just wonderful
First time seeing Porcupine Tree at Cambridge Junction on the last night of the tour was pretty special as well

I'm sure I'll think of more as soon as I press Post Reply

Steely Dan at the NEC-----Just awesome !

Joe Bonamassa at the Cheese and Grain last year. Hes never going to play small gigs like that again.

Jackson Browne---Colston Hall last month----A perfect night.

Deep Purple----Albert Hall 1972-------I can still remember it---Just after "In Rock " came out--wow .

America----Basingstoke Anvil-----The unlikeliest venue for a magical gig.

A tough call.....

Peter Gabriel/Blur - Glasonbury 1993 I'd have to say.

Closely Followed by Catatonia in Plymouth in 1996 - the week before "roadrage" was released very special!:)

Cheers,

Matt

Celine Dion at Murrayfield ? :suspect:

maybe not

Probably Stiff Little Fingers at the Apollo in '81 or '82 - first concert I ever went to, still think SLF are

Apocalyptica supporting Rammstein in Nottingham, 2005 :).

Moby, during his rock phase, supporting Soundgarden at Manchester Apollo in 1996

Depeche Mode at Sheffield Arena around 1993

Red Stars Parade in my front room, New Years Eve 2003

Belle and Sebastian - Dunfermline Carnegie Hall 2002

The uptown shufflers who supported them were class, they wandered in and out of set all night freestyling with the band ... No other band have i seen play a sousaphone and make it sound cool (cant say i've seen another band play one for that matter)

No other band except the Happy Mondays in their time comes close :-)

Has to be Queen at Knebworth, 1986. Awesome gig. Failing that, Genesis at Old Trafford a year or so back.

Tough on this.

Billy Idol 3 or 4 years ago at Rock City - he was still a bloody awesome peformer

Within Temptation 2006 tour - they are an incredible live band

Sisters of Mercy, secret gig in leeds at The Fenton (capacity well under 100, smoke machine designed for larger venues...)

I could go on, I'm fortunate enough to have seen a lot of awesome live bands playing incredibly well. Or i have low standards - I'm going to go with the former! :D

A few that instantly come to mind....

** back in 1980 at JB's a small club in Dudley, West Mids, capacity must have been about 100!
Even then you could just tell they were going to be hoooooge!

Joy Division's last ever gig at Birmingham Uni ... just awesome!

INXS on 'Get Out Of The House' tour in '93. Michael Hutchence held my hand and sang Mystify ... I was a wobbly mess!:D

I'm amazed at how many photographers are Rock fans

I have been to far too many gigs and i'm sure most of the bands wouldnt get approval of many people here (The days of loving death metal..... :D)
But, for me it had to be Obituary playing in London about 4 years ago. After splitting up many years ago, never thought i'd get to see one of my favourite Death Metal bands play together, but they got back together and played some shows and released some new material. Was amazing :D
Another gig was a fairly high profile death metal band with a name that would cause offence here played a show in my Crappy City of Peterborough. They have been one of my fav bands since i first moved into the scene, so for them to play my local venue was awesome, and yes, i got to photograph them :D

The one where i come home, turn the sound system on and chill. Pure class

Tony

Oh this is a tough one, but gigs that stand out in my memory

Echobelly - Manchester Academy
Kasey Chambers - King Tuts Glasgow
Nelly Furtado - Wiltern Theatre - Los Angels
Natalie Merchant - Manchester Academy
Tom Tom Club - Manchester Intentional 2

U 2 @ Cardiff - Supported by The Killers

Went to Blakney Harbour Rooms last Friday to see 'Nine Below Zero' now in their 30th year. They were outstanding. Everything tight and spot on. Great evening.

Any Connie Lush fans on here?

Paul

SWMBO wanted to go to see Paul Weller...not my Cup of Tea but showed willing.

Came out absolutly amazed. Gig started at 07:45 expecting a warm up act only to find out he came and played non stop until 11:00. The only "interlude" was a 2min drum "bit" bout half way through. Very impressed and very enjoyable, very professional...even if the music wasnt cup of tea.

Saw Bowie too (another one of SWMBO choices) and again very good although that was at the NEC and sat in Seats Z27 and Z28...yes the seats were mounted to the rear wall and from where we were he appeared quite small.

Some of the most memorable gigs "I've chosen to go to" was Four Tet - AMAZING sounds although to watch is quite dull as one bloke stood behind a laptop for three hours is like watching a supermarket checkout operator on a Staurday, thankfully the noises were better.

Mathew Dear was also highly recommended.

Guns n Roses, Man City ground 1992 supported by Faith No More and Soundgarden.

Just remembered another Neds Atomic Dustin secret (not very, about 1000 people turned up) gig at JB's in Dudley (the old shed), they went under the name God Fodder, that was the new album at the time, clever them people from Stourbridge:lol::lol:

Metallica 2009 :notworthy:

Metallica playing the Manchester Arena in the round with close to 20,000 people moshing away was an amazing gig. The flamers at the start of One nearly burning peoples eyebrows off and the classics like Master of Puppets, Blackened & Seek and Destroy. Plus I've got the full concert on my Ipod now so I can listen to the gig again & again.

Little band called 'Frightened Rabbit' at Scala, London.

They played a massive set, all of the fan favourites, but played them with such enthusiasm and devotion.

The lead singer was clearly affected by this, noting that he was surprised to see this many people enjoying their music, thinking that only half the amount of people would come to see them.

When doing their encore of a fan favourite 'keep yourself warm', the lead stopped singing so he could listen to the crowd singing the words he had written, you could almost see the shivers running up his spine.

Was truly amazing.

ben folds @ the lowry, manchester
fun lovin' criminals @ empress ballroom, blackpool (aged 13 drunk as a skunk, met hughie from the band)
Dave Matthews @ manchester academy (a solo gig which was truely awesome)

Eagles at Hampden 2006.

Welcome to the Hotel etc

ACDC at AECC.. June 96, I couldn't believe how much the floor moved.

Been to see Pearl Jam at SECC and a couple of phonics concerts at AECC and Fratellis in the Aberdeen Ballroom all of which I'm big fans of but I was actually really impressed with the Kaisers playing in Aberdeen, absolutely brilliant sound and loud without just turning into a noise. I came away a fan even though they got a poor review from the papers... I doubt there was a journalist there! Support act Black Kids made an impression on me too.

Tangerine dream, bradford 1986
Saxon, Hawkwind, r&b derbyshire 1999
elo 2, Halifax ?
Thunder Various venues! ?

The B52's as a support band at the tiny little F-Club in Leeds... must have been late 70s. Never heard of them before and they were amazing!
Nine Inch Nails, Town & Country Club 1989
Smiths and Marie Wilson at the GLC City Hall (84?)... just because it was my first weekend in London and it was totally free!!

Where do I start:

Metallica:

10th & 11th March 1997 Madison Square Gardens, NYC with C.O.C as support

Playing in the small tent at Donington - They were not listed on the bill.

6th December 2003 Arnhem, NL. With the amazing Godsmack as support.

Nivarna @ leeds Duchess of York some time in 1989

White Zombie June 1995 at Donington

Korn at the Lowlands festival in NL August 2005

Motley Crue:

Donington 1984

Newcastle City Hall Feb 1986

I could just go on!!

**, Roundhey Park in Leeds, I forget the year but it was the Zooropa tour and I was at the front, brilliant !

Was that when the thunder and lightning was going mental during the support act??
I was at the front as well, but on the other side of the barrier. I was one keeping a hold of bono when he decided to crowdsurf a bit until some knob tried to grab him.

You were at the last joy division gig!!!!!! That's some story I am jelous beyond belief. My old photography lecturer used to photograph bands in the 70s he was telling me one day he had a clear out of all his old negs, one band he threw out he thinks did eventually do something, band was Warsaw, didn't like to say he could of had a nice pension from the royalties.

My best was Morrissey, notts rock city in 1999.
