The best beer for photographers

I would have thought any CAMRA recommended beer would be good for photographers.

It's in a can which is a bit of a negative for me, and just like wines that have been fermented in stainless steel vats, they taste metallic.

Nothing beats a nice Augustiner Edelstoff from a wooden barrel

I DO NOT DRINK tinned beer. :puke:

One of our local breweries is DEYA. You can visit the brewery and buy the beer direct from the cask but sold in local shops, it is always in cans which seem fine to me. My son had tried the cans he had bought near his home in London and insisted we visit the brewery when he next visited. Well worth the visit.

4.5%- session ale, good for an all day session, I drink for the flavour not the effect.

I mostly drink Bulmer's light atm, which is also 4.5%, that wasn't the point I was making earlier though - it's just unusual to see a session IPA that low, most I see are 6% plus! Being 'craft' beers obviously you're meant to savour rather than just skull them

I love a good IPA, session IPA's however, are not really my bag.
I feel that in terms of IPA/other pale ales, stronger beer tastes better.
I'm not a big drinker, I only have 2 or 3 twice a week at home, so I can afford the the odd 7+% ale here and there! If im 'out' I usually drive - there are some decent non-alcoholic beers out now. If anybody is interested the 0.5% ones are better - they are brewed to that alcohol content so dont lose any taste. in 0.0% ales the alcohol is removed afterwards with magic but they have a tendency to taste watered down. That said, non alcoholic Guinness isn't too bad.

This one should appeal to you Stephen - £6.50 from Sainsbury's - same kick as 3 bottles of Moretti from Tesco (£6.50 clubcard price for 3!)

Mae West said they should put beer back in the horse.....

“I’m getting rather hoarse, I fear,
After so much reciting:
So, if you don’t object, my dear,
We’ll try a glass of bitter beer –
I think it looks inviting.”
Lewis Carrol.

Chimay (Red, Blue or White) Bitburger and Peroni Red from Ocado
Duvel and Chouffe from Waitrose
La Goudale, French, but very Belgian like from Morrisons
If you have a Lidl nearby this is a very decent 10 X 500cl selection for £26.99
First six i've had were nice enough, mainly Marz style as opposed to Pilsner or Helles
(bit cheaper I believe with one of their loyalty cards)
Bayern Tragerl.jpg

Leffe is now brewed in the UK same as a whole raft of rotten Mediterranean sounding liquid like Madri, Cruzcampo, Biera Moretti etc etc
Mahou and Estrella Galicia are still brewed in their home country which does make a positive difference.

I can beat that Rich, 20x 50cl Paulaner Oktoberfest from Majestic Wine £42. Still prefer Augustiner Oktoberfest,
10 X 500cl
You are going to need a reinforced basket to carry around 10x 5 litre bottles around Lidl...

The Schneider Weisse one tempts me.

La Goudale, French,

Agree, but I always get mine from Carrefour in Duinkerque in a 75cl bottle (box of 6), along with 3 monts (similar style) - who says the french make poor beer? The Normandie ciders are pretty good as well. Then, there is the creme de la creme of all Belgian beers - Westvleteren. The brewery, next to a monastery, has a great cafe where you can drink their beer and get blessed by a Nun at the same time.

That was a good deal and yes I added an extra nought :)
Another favourite of mine is Bolleke, visited the De Koninck brewery in Antwerp and did the tour.
Also stayed in a hotel next door to the Frankenheim brewery in Dusseldorf, Altbier every day.

Got an email from Beers of Europe yesterday. M A X I M A T O R is back in stock.

Favourite brewery from favourite city. Augustinerbrau Muenchen. Time of year: Starkbierzeit.

To coincide with the start of Lent the bavarian brewer brew a dark bock beer as a bread substitute. All 6 major breweries have their own version. Paulaner does the best known one, SALVATOR. There is Triumphator, Unimator and others, but my favourite is Augustiner Maximator. Once it is in stock it sells pretty quickly.

It is very dark and strong. Gives you earache from the other half, 'why do you want more beer? you drink too much!' 'But I love you!' 'Is that you or the beer talking??' 'I was talking to the beer!'

Only concern is that the box they provide is not that sturdy and DHL have the annual habit of smashing half the package.

Augustiner Lagerbier Hell is now available in Sainsbury's (in Richmond anyway) - Nectar price offer 4 for the price of 3 - 4 bottles for just under a tenner.

Those dark bock beers sound good, might be time for a quick trip up the A10 to BOE.
Off to Brussels soon so will be trying a few different beers, make a change from the more readily available ones here
Read an article last month in the Brussels Times about a burglar who broke into a sports club and fell asleep on the snooker table.
Police found 16 empty Duvel bottles alongside him, no wonder he crashed out
