They have done a Rachel Reeves, she leaked income and vat threshold increases then delivered other stealth tax increases so people would complain less as planned.

Sony leaked using the same sensor and people near revolted but have now given a pretty decent upgrade, but without a full stacked sensor which would have made this a must buy for a lot of people.

I expect a lot of reviews from all of the usual people will be posted when the camera is anounced.
 
will wait on reviews after 6 months or so, obviously they first batch of reviews will be blowing smoke up Sonys ass to keep affiliated with them regardless.
they have some terrible choices on top of the video specs though.
low res EV again, some saying same older EV from the a7r3 (going on specs) and the same low quality/res rear screen, as a tech/tv company you would;d expect more in this area.
no mention if its the lower and weaker rated shutter either

things to find out are
fps on full raw images and if pre capture will be 10bit only
AF calculations, all good having fancy new af but if its bottle necked at 20 again how much difference will it make.

interested to see if they bring it in at the same as the r6mk3 in the uk or stick to the rumoured 3k

R6III launched at a price of £2799 so we would surprised if Sony didn't launch at 3k.
 
I was reading earlier that a Spanish retailer had mistakenly listed it for sale and the price was €3400.

I'll wait until the official announcement but I thought the SAR guy said weeks ago the EVF is updated and higher res, disappointing if this isn't the case.

He did but unless the posted specs are again different it’s the same EV and screen used for years the lowest they do and lower than any competitors, which is really a sad thing when they pioneered it all.
 
A7V is £2799, better than predicted.

Edit: Same 3.68m EVF.

you get full raw at 30fps but it only takes 40 shots 1.1 seconds.
most the testing was done via video as no software support the camera
even 40k60 has a crop if you want it with the cleaner noise reduction version, seems there is more detail over the iv but also more noise.
seems to have the best thermal of any camera so far 6h at 4k 60.
he rates it as likely the best of the bunch... he did say they peaked years ago for photo's

Definitely interested and shopping for a replacement for my A9 next year. Need to see how prices shake out for the A7v vs the A7iv, A7Rv and possibly an adapted Z8. All have their pros and cons (don't care about video, only wildlife/landscape capabilities and cost).
 
Nothing like an A1 sensor is still gonna have pretty bad banding used the e shutter.

Realistic image quality. Count me in, always hated how my current camera gives unrealistic images.

Still hate that they describe them as "all weather" but don't quantify it. Just give us an IP rating already.

Probably a high chance an A7Cm3 would have this sensor in a year or two.

I've not seen sensor readout times yet, but with it 'only' being a partically stacked sensor it's clearly not going to be as fast. Banding wouldn't be a concern for me as it's something I've never encountered, however if it has significant rolling shutter then it would be pointless to me, you don't need 30fps to take a static subject :lol:

You can actually get it for £1399 UK at the mo after Park's offer and cashback, cashback still has ages to run but not sure how much Park's offer will last. For £50 difference I'd definitely rather have a UK model.

Thanks. I'm in that place where an upgrade would be nice but I don't actually need to do it, and I'm not doing a lot of photography right now either.
 
Sensor readout of the A7V is approx 4.5x faster than the A7IV. The A7 IV is approx 66ms so by my calculations that means the A7V will be 14.6ms, therefore it's still quite a bit slower than the A1 which is 3.8-4ms.

I used to have the EM1 Mark II which has a readout speed of approx 16.7ms and on viewing a single image it was hard to see any rolling shutter, you could see it if you shot a series and viewed one to the other quickly, you could see the distortion in the subject change very slightly. For me it wasn't enough to worry about as, just looking at a single image you didn't notice it, although I guess if there's a lot of vertical lines it might be more noticeable.

Basically it's just a long winded way of saying that I think the electronic shutter will be usable most of the time with the A7V :lol:

I don't shoot a lot in artificial light which is why it's not much of an issue for me. I can understand it is for people that shoot at sports stadiums etc, but even then there's usually a workaround. You can always revert to mechanical, or in the case of the A1 you can use really random shutter speeds like 1/236.1

Probably early firmware issues but that not working with third party lenses might put me off for a bit (if I was in the market)
 
I had really bad banding in Blackwells book store a couple of weeks ago - it seemed to be in one area only, so maybe one particular bulb was running at an odd frequency.

I usually only take the odd picture indoors under artificial lighting when we're having dinner with someone, either home or out. For whatever reason I've noticed that banding is much less of an issue than it was a few years ago. If this is down to luck, a change in lighting or camera tech or some combination of these I don't know but it does seem less of an issue. In Thailand I used the electronic shutter exclusively and despite taking pictures in Mrs WW's family home and every coffee house, restaurant, mall, hotel and indoor attraction we went to I didn't have a single picture affected by banding.

In manny’s it still has rolling shutter.
R5ii was better with nearly none. it was slightly worse s1mk2 but far better than the 7iv.
He liked the fact it has a real shutter and not just a first curtain.

R5ii has a fully stacked sensor unlike A7V.
its also more expensive.
this is really competing with R6iii and its better than that plus shoots full 14-bit RAW.
At the same time Sony doesn't really have an R5ii competitor, you'd have dish out a couple grand extra for A1ii.

Either way it’s a big difference compared to the last 2 models and everyone lived with them.
I did wonder what the Sony equivalent was to an r5.
What is the canon equivalent to the R line.?


I’ve watched as many videos on this as possible, overall most seem happy,
a significant and not significant update in ways.
Will be interesting to see what the real DR and iso results are once the images can be processed but so far it seems to be very mixed on both.
Some saying an improvement over the IV others saying its exactly the same.

I’d be surprised if the DR wasn’t better, Sony would look pretty stupid otherwise.

It will definitely have rolling shutter, it will just be case of whether or not it’s perceivable in the real world.

Of course I’m only talking about stills, I have no interest in video ;)
