CheersUsers on here really rate the 70-350mm, maybe there’s some sample variation. I hope the 50-400mm works out better for you![]()

I'd go as far as saying that it's one of the best lenses I've owned.I don't know why to be honest... it could be the eye af not working properly (yes user error is a possibility but I've spent ages checking settings) or it could be the lens. I don't have anything else at the moment other than the 10-20 which is not ideal for double checking.
I've read a few accounts of people not being happy with the 70-350 so maybe my expectations were just too high - not fussed for trying another one.

Something mundane no doubt.I wonder what it'll be?
BIG Sony announcement soon with a never seen before lens! | sonyalpharumors
I just received triple confirmation about a big Sony announcement happening soon. This is NOT for the successor to the A7IV camera.... this will be an epic lens ;) So I am going to drop the rumor tomorrow or after tomorrow at 3pm London time. I am currently on a short holiday trip with thewww.sonyalpharumors.com
I wont sleep tonight.

It may just be me but I went out with my trusty RX10iv today and virtually every shot is sharp so I've really no idea why I can't get the 70-350 working. Disappointing but not the end of the worldI'd go as far as saying that it's one of the best lenses I've owned.
Perhaps you are just unlucky and got a dodgy copy
The problem is he's a bit like the boy who cried wolf, how many times have we heard this only for it to be something boring. It says in that blurb, an EPIC lens...... I guess different people have different views of what epic might mean![]()
SuperbA few of us went to Exmoor on Friday night. I wanted to go somewhere with a chance to shoot an arch panorama as you know I've done a few of those in the past. I did shoot a24mm pano arch, and a 35mm straight Milky Way core, and an 85mm frame, and a Cygnus 35mm frame.....
But I think this is my favourite. No arch, no panoramic OR no core

A small 50mm f1.8 would be nice. I used to want an 85mm f1.2 but I barely use 85mm these days so I'm not fussed. There is a lot of calling for one though. All I want is a decent 50 f/1.8, an 85 f/1.2, a proper fish eye and a tilt shift. I doubt it will be any of those will probably be some competitor to the new Sigma 200mm f/1.8.

Odd that it still sells so well, I guess the majority of people don't do any research before they buy. I'm surprised they're making a "never seen before" lens a GM, I'd have thought they'd only do GM in tried and tested lensesThe new lens is a G.M so unfortunately definitely won’t be a 50 f/1.8. Have asked Sony for this a few times and the answer is always that they still sell the old one by the bucket loads. I dare say it would be impossible to make a new one and sell at less than treble the price if the old one.

I’ve been finding it too long for studio stuff, and I’m preferring 35mm and 50mm for dog photos these days. Maybe I’ll get back into 85mm one day.I used my Sammy 85 f1.4 the other weekend to take pictures of our great nephew and his family - reminded me what a nice portrait lens and focal length it is.
I use it (Mk II) a lot for after dark street stuff; it's a cracking lens.I used my Sammy 85 f1.4 the other weekend to take pictures of our great nephew and his family - reminded me what a nice portrait lens and focal length it is.

That's great, where was this taken? Also a mkii user. Really nice lens and 85mm is my most used prime. Use it for almost everything from portraits to landscapes.
Think I posted this in astro section - A3 comet

But thinking of replacing it with 85GM. Even though its heavier.... can't make up my mind though
I went from Sony 85mm f1.8 to 85GM to samyang 85mm mk1 to sigma 85DN to Samyang 85mm mkii.
The sigma was optically the best one of the lot but because of the hood too much space in the bag.
Just outside Cambridge, mullard telescopeThat's great, where was this taken?
Not sure why everyone is copying the f2.5. They should try and make a f2 Nikon z 40mm f2This could be interesting if the price is ok. I've used my Sony 40mm f2.5 quite a bit since I got it.

Try upping your shutter speeds to rule out motion blur 1/500 is on the low sideWell I'm getting shot of the 70-350
I had it out today in the park - great light, settings correct, plenty of shutter speed, eye af locked on (allegedly anyway) etc etc - virtually no properly sharp shots, nothing anywhere near what I can get with the RX10iv. Fed up with it now.
Might get a Tamron 50-400, or else just use the A6700 for landscapes (with 10-20) and macro (90mm maybe) and stick with the RX10iv for wildlife as I am a pretty casual walkabout shooter anyway.
Just so this isn't purely a moan here's a shot I got with the A6700 and 70-350mm (not very good as it was a fair bit away - not blaming the lens for this one!). First one I have seen so quite exciting at the time

I wonder how big and heavy it is?

Yeah I'd agree, for a small pancake like z 40mm f2 the IQ is more than good enoughI'd accept f2 or larger even if the iq suffered as it could at least be handy for emergency use.
OK, better than expected. Not a lens for my radar though even if it was cheaper. So the new lens is a 50-150 f/2 nice
4k though
A world’s first! Sony will soon announce the 50-150mm f/2.0 GM lens! | sonyalpharumors
https://youtu.be/Ei8XbzgbbTU According to three trusted sources, Sony will soon announce a new 50-150mm f/2.0 GM lens. Yes, folks, I didn't make a typo... this really is a constant aperture zoom of f/2.0! There has never been a lens like this in the history of photography, so I'm very excited to...www.sonyalpharumors.com
It says "a smidge" bigger and heavier than the Tamron 35-150mm.I wonder how big and heavy it is?

I think with modern day sensors having the ability to crop like they do it could quite easily replace a 70-200mm, but not at £4k and not if it weighs 1.3kg+ for me. That’s one thing I love about the Sony 70-200mm GM II, it’s ‘only’ a touch over a kiloI guess it could replace the 135 f/1.8 and maybe even a 70-200 for some but yeah I don't really use those focal lengths either.
More 'evolutionary' than 'never before seen' though, to my mind.So the new lens is a 50-150 f/2 nice
