The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I can't see why it would be right when there's the option to choose standard or date, if it was only ever meant to do this there wouldn't be the option of "standard"

I'd contact Sony, they're usually good at getting back to me with enquiries.

The Sony bot says send it in for repair.

I select the Rec folder I get an orange box which says 104MSDCF and if I navigate up or down the number changes.

Ah this might be a clue. What does the folder structure look like on the card? This might not be a per-day limit issue but a file limit. How many files on the card?

Feel like I've not posted a photo in a while, TTArtisan 40/2.8 macro on A7Cii, shooting crop mode in this case, Nissin ring flash handheld off camera. Keep getting tempted to replace with an A-mount 90mm macro.

I really need to invest in a geared head and/or macro rail to handle the shallow DoF (shooting at f8 here IIRC).

One of my 5yo son's lego droid designs:

I took over 100 pictures in three days so that's no a lot. I've tried just taking one picture and moving the date forward and taking another and it creates two folders. Changing the card made no difference, taking the battery out made no difference, nothing I've tried has made a difference.

I think I'll try and have a read up tomorrow but I don't suppose I'll see anything new and if I don't I might send it off and see what Sony have to say.

Only 100? Hehe

Alan. Are your files numbers also resetting ?

Is there any pattern to when it creates a new folder? I've only seen cameras create a new folder when the file number hits 9999 which I think is part of some standard they all seem to follow.

Yes, you can select to have a new folder every day, or have it set to "standard" in which it just has the one folder for photos until it hits 9999 when it then creates a new folder.

It creates a new folder for each day.

For example when we were away for three days it created three folders. At home when I tested it if I took one photo then changed the date and took another it'd create two folders with just the one picture in each.

My old A7 would create a second folder when the first had a certain number of pictures in it but I can't remember how many, a lot though. I have seen that when on holiday and taking a larger number of pictures over a period. The A7iii is doing something different. It doesn't create a new folder based on the number of pictures taken and instead is creating a new folder for each day.

Some people may like that feature but I don't and I'd rather just have all the files in the one folder. Changing from Standard to Date and back again didn't help, reseting the camera didn't help and neither do formats. The bot said send it in for repair but I'll follow Toby's advice and email them first just in case I've missed something obvious.

Sadly i don't have the time anymore to get out on it so it's time to let it go, iv'e had 10 years of enjoyment from it and always brings a smile.

That's a shame, it's a lovely bike. I bet it's right up @trevorbray 's street.

I don't get out on mine anywhere near as much as I'd like as it flares my fibro up and I'm in a lot of pain for several days after but it's worth it for the few times I can get out (y)

Too true Toby. It’s right up my Strasse…

Great shots.

Btw, do people still generally use Flickr?

I stopped my sub recently.

Any alternatives?
Yeah I still use it, would be too much hassle to change it.

Well I'm getting shot of the 70-350 :(

I had it out today in the park - great light, settings correct, plenty of shutter speed, eye af locked on (allegedly anyway) etc etc - virtually no properly sharp shots, nothing anywhere near what I can get with the RX10iv. Fed up with it now.

Might get a Tamron 50-400, or else just use the A6700 for landscapes (with 10-20) and macro (90mm maybe) and stick with the RX10iv for wildlife as I am a pretty casual walkabout shooter anyway.

Just so this isn't purely a moan here's a shot I got with the A6700 and 70-350mm (not very good as it was a fair bit away - not blaming the lens for this one!). First one I have seen so quite exciting at the time :)

That’s a shame I wonder why? Have you used another lens to make sure it’s not the body? Have you thought about trying another 70-350mm?

I don't know why to be honest... it could be the eye af not working properly (yes user error is a possibility but I've spent ages checking settings) or it could be the lens. I don't have anything else at the moment other than the 10-20 which is not ideal for double checking.

I've read a few accounts of people not being happy with the 70-350 so maybe my expectations were just too high - not fussed for trying another one.

Users on here really rate the 70-350mm, maybe there’s some sample variation. I hope the 50-400mm works out better for you (y)
