on my A7RV, it noticeably faster to clear the buffer than my kingston SD cards. with loseless compressed files its almost instantaneous. Of course I am only bursting at 8fps but even still its not instantaneous on SD cards.

At least on A7IV pergear apparently gives nearly twice the speed as of the kingston.

I found Kingston reliable but always seemed slow when I used to compare with Sandisk back in the day.

I'd personally go with A1
Unless you are wanting the 1/80000 shutter and sync speed

It's no slower or faster than other similarly spec'd UHS-II SD cards IME. I had ones from SanDisk, manfroto and lexar.

I almost exclusively use primes. Zooms confuse me :D

I suppose my most used zooms are all MFT. In order of use... 45-150, 12-35mm, 100-400mm. I think primes just suit both how I want to use the kit and the pictures I want to take. The only thing that stops my buying the higher end primes like the 35mm f1.4 is the bulk and weight as I like compact and light kit.

I’ve not done any burst shooting since having the cards, but the clearing of the buffer has never really been an issue since I can still use the camera whilst it’s clearing, I was hoping to see lightning fast transfer of files to the computer though. I’ll likely do a comparison test at some point ;)

There are other options
Tamron 150-500mm f6.7 - too slow IMO
Sigma 60-600mm and 150-600mm - might be a good alternative to 200-600mm but overall still prefer the Sony for 1st party AF support, sharpness, internal zoom etc.

Definitely a zoom, and £1200ish max so I think that rules out any primes!

with that budget I guess 200-600mm is best option for 400mm+ reach.

The sigma 60-600mm I think costs a little more but the 10x zoom is pretty near. Though tbh I rarely use my 200-600mm lower than 400mm so its not really useful for me.

longer term you could look to swap 200-600mm for the sigma 500mm f5.6 if it comes in at around £2K (which means in a year or two it'll be available for your budget)

Ive just transferred 1196 lossless compressed using the pergear 260g and reader using normal usb. I copy and paste to a folder and it took 1min for the pc to prepare and 3 mins to transfer so 4 mins well 4 min 11 secs to complete.
USBc lightning port may be faster but i have no problem with that.

I thought about the A9MKIII but decided I wanted more MP than my A9. I shoot a lot of weddings and corporate events and love my 35 and 85 f1.4 primes. The ability at the tap of a button to go into APSC mode and still get 21mp files is extremely useful .

I don’t know how many GB that relates to but from memory I can offload around 90Gb (maybe more) in that time from my SD cards. It’s got me curious now so I’ll do a test at some point ;)

My Sony 35mm f1.8 is next up to be mounted on my A7. I'm trying to rotate my lens choice and get around to using them more often.
 
So another video question on the A9 and getting head around exposure.

I have set it to manual mode. 1/50 shutter to double frame 25 frame rate.

In auto iso I can adjust exposure. In manual iso I can’t adjust exposure.

So just wondering what’s the best way to get exposure correct. Auto iso and adjust the exposure or manual iso and not be able to adjust exposure.

Or am I missing something?

I’m assuming we’re talking video here? Also when you say adjusting exposure are you referring to exposure compensation?

There is of course no exposure comp when everything is in manual as you are setting exposure, well, manually. Exp comp is there for auto/semi auto modes in case you don’t agree with the exposure the camera has given.

I noticed that myself i searched the Sigma 105mm and it showed up on there Europe site so i clicked to go uk and as you mention there’s none listed at all… Its been like that for a while no Sigma stuff.
 
Brand new A7RV, used once yesterday and looks like a pin has snapped off the lens contact unit. The camera no longer recognises any lenses. I'm pragmatic about it, been using Sony Alpha's for a long time now and its the first issue I've had.

Yes, I looked to get the Sigma 14-24 F2.8 DG DN from there, no joy, so ended up buying from SLR Hut, though I've not received it yet.

But I have never heard of or know pins snapping across any brands.... going back to film days/bodies.

If you have only used it once, I assume its new. I'd ask for a replacement instead of warranty.

make sure you test this one for decentering. I tried two copies and both were decentered (2nd one worst than 1st).
So I personally just gave up on this lens, may be I was just really unlucky.

Grey goods, bought from Efinity so no UK warranty. I've always bought this way and I accept the risks. Efinity may take it back but I don't really want to wait months for it to be sorted. It will likely go to the Sony authorised repair centre in Manchester.

Just a thought - is it possible the pin is jammed in, rather than snapped off?

Obviously up to you but I'd be exchanging it despite the time it takes, I'd worry if any of the other pins are faulty.
 
Well I got it completely wrong with the memory cards, to offload 19.96GB data onto my computer the Pergear CFExpress took 45s, whereas 19.92GB on the SD card took 1min 45s. The SD cards was 'only' my 250mb/s card rather than 300mb/s but clearly the CFExpress is much quicker. I don't know if my computer was having a bit of a moment last time though as it seemed noticeably quicker offloading the Pergear card today :thinking:
