The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

As it's quiet.

Two more pictures from Whitby.

A7 and Syoptic 50mm at f1.1. I forgot to select ISO 50 so unfortunately the camera went to 1/8,000 and still couldn't quite cope so I had to fiddle more in post capture. Silly me. I must try to remember to go to ISO 50 when needed.

IF they’re going to do an update I do hope to god it’s more than just this, imagine the backlash  They’d be better off not doing one if that’s all.

It would be nice if they could do something for A7III owners too - it's not like we just bought software.

If there’s a firmware update for the A1 I hope it’s more than that too.

I've been looking for another manual 35mm to play with. I haven't used my film era ones for a while and although the Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 has probably been my most used lens I've used the Pergear f1.4 more recently. I also have a film era rangefinder Voigtlander 35mm f2.5 Color Skopar which I need to use more. Anyway. I just fancy another but I can't see another Sony mount one and M mount or screw ones sometimes don't work so well and can have long minimum focus distances.

I suppose one obvious one could be the Zeiss Loxia f2 but they've never appealed to me and over at Fred Miranda he says that the rendering of the Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 is the same from f2.

If anyone can think of anything I've missed.

I am awaiting delivery of a TTartisans 25mm f2, I know it’s for Aps-C but it was impossible to let it go when it was under £40.

I have the very similar FF TTArtisan 50mm f2.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the 25mm f2. I hope you'll post your thoughts.

The main issues with the 50mm f2 seem to be massive vignetting and mushy corners, maybe these wont be issues with the APS-C lens.

Ah. I see.

What will these be used on?
A7 original, it’s arrived , I had same lens for the xpro1 but focus peaking on the Fuji is pants, much better on the sony
now just to wait for the rain to stop for more than 2 minutes

Good stuff.

I'll be interested in what you think of that 25mm f2.

As you may have noticed I use manual lenses quite a bit.

While I'm here :D A7 and Syoptic 50mm f1.1.

I have just raided my bank and bought a Sony 24-105 f4. I have been using a old 28-70 as I tend to use long lens the most but though I I'm using the A1 I need a good lens on the front and the 24-105 gets a good review.

I will post here and on the manual lens thread when I manage to dodge the hefty showers and get some photography time

I've used my A7 and indeed all my cameras in every kind of weather and it may be just luck but I've never had any problems :D

I was once on Saltburn beach and it was so windy my screen protector blew off and nearly took my eye with it. So there's that :D

Really suffering from this dose of covid at the moment , here’s a couple of testing shots using the TTartisans 25mm on A7

First the making room , named by grandkids

second 2 of my collection of 3 sheds not all full of my stuff , honest

looks ok so far

We had a brief in the back of the car picknick at the seaside. It was a bit dull and blowing a gale

A7 and Pergear 35mm f1.4, just shooting f8 and hyperfocally. Pretty dull pictures really but I thought... the thread is quite quiet so post them :D

Towards Redcar and the wind farm.

Towards Saltburn, sand blowing on the beach.

To the windfarm again because I liked the grass :D

DSC03396.jpg

One last one to show more sand blowing on the beach.

DSC03421.jpg

It is IMO a cheapo lens well worth a look if you like cheap MF lenses :D

It's going to need to be amazing, to get me to swap my compact and light Tamron 70-180mm out my bag.

I don't think that anyone who has either the existing Tamron or Sony options will switch to it, but depending on pricing it might be a strong contender for new buyers.
The current Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 Sport for Canon / Nikon DSLR is £1089 - that's obviously for a lens that's been out a while, but if the new version came in at say £1400-£1500, then it might be a very tempting alternative - significantly cheaper than the Sony, but with a similar feature set and IQ?

What does it look like with the hood off…? Because it looks to be same size as the Sony?
Sony isn't the smallest one though. They have gone with design that's internal zooming and compatibility with TCs. Makes it larger. But it's the lightest one at the moment.
So will be interesting to see how much sigma weighs

A rumor is coming.

Hardly the second coming or world peace but for those with a little time to spare at 15:00 this could be vaguely interesting.

My pet peeve is people comparing them when it’s not a level playing field, aka, showing them in the same way, at least take the hood off.

It's hard to imagine anything more silly.

I can see how the Fuji ones can appeal but this Leica reminds me of the rebadged Panasonic cameras. I just can't imagine why people are willing to pay way over the odds for a rebranded bit of kit.

Lovely soft light yesterday.
Thought I'd get some Portraits of my dog, Brody.
50mm GM f1.2
Wasn't till after i'd taken this that I spotted he'd rolled in something Soft and Nasty.

Really pleased with the output from this camera, I've been looking very seriously at another Fuji GFX.
No question I'd like one. But....

Clifton cameras have the new 70-200mm f4 ii for £1388.

I'm super tempted. I know some people have bought from clifton cameras before. good service?

One motorcycle sold might keep the other.
That covers the cost of,,,
Sony A1
70-200 F2.8 GMII
FE 100-400 GM
FE 200-600 G
1x spare battery
2x Pergear type A 270g
Zeiss cleaning kit
Lowpro 500 AWII bag (still scouring net)

100-400 and 200-600 lot of thought but I have Mallory Donnington Middleton lakes Kingsbury waterpark couple of small airfields all within 20 mins to name a few wish i could find info which lens would most likely be updated first.

That'll keep me occupied for a bit then to follow i have decided on

16-35 2.8 GMII
24-70 2.8 GMII
maybe 1.4 tc

Just waiting on what Black Friday will bring

As my circumstances have now changed I may get to go on holiday to Thailand next year. It'll be my first holiday since August 2019. Of course I'd rather things were back to how they were but that's not an option, those days are gone and I have to adjust to a new life.

I've taken my A7 and Sony 35mm f2.8 on every holiday since I got it but I'm considering taking the Pergear 35mm f1.4 instead for the extra light gathering for low light pictures. I don't think the lack of AF will be a worry for me as the vast majority of my pictures are scenic and posed or at the most slow moving and hyperfocal and zone are possibilities in good light and peaking can be quite a help at wide apertures.

Tempting anyone?

Used them several times, no complaints from me.

The 100-400mm is older than the 200-600mm therefore you would think it would be updated first, however AFAIK there's not even been talk of a new version of either let alone anything conrcete. I can't speak for the other places but I've always been happy using the 70-200mm, 100-400mm (sometimes with 1.4xTC) and 50mm (for the Paddock) at Donington.
