The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Anyone else feel the SONY A7s just dont feel very robust, I mean I am comparing to my Nikon D810 and D3 LOL the hammer but Got the SONY for lightness and it feels very flimsy pictures from it and hit rate and battery usage are incredible but feels like its not going to stand the test of time...

I bought mine used in early 2015 and it's pretty much mint aside from a scratch on the screen protector which was my fault....

Also my only camera up until a month or two ago.

Sometimes I think, why not? You're only here once, you can't take it with you etc but in reality what would I gain by buying an A7IV? Not too much. I printed three pictures to A4 recently and two of them were B&W conversions of pictures taken with my Medion compact at just over 2mb.

Not that you can judge too much here but this was taken with my creaking old A7 and Pergear 35mm and really, what more could I ask for IQ wise for the general family and day out snapping I do?

Even at 100% it's excellent even with a cheapo lens :D

I might see I car I fancy though :D

Yes. I do understand you Alan.

For me.... Eye AF, better zebra settings, silent shooting, intervalometer, I can program that lens hold button now :) battery life is less of a concern. Oh, and the joystick for focus point positioning :) I've always missed the joystick since my 5D2 in 2015 :)

I never had an issue with the A7 for IQ and general use though. It's still here. Ffordes still have my M mount Voigtlander 40/1.4 Classic so I might just get it back and keep it on the A7 :)

I've not yet gone out with a two body two lens set up :)

I had a D610 before my A7III, and it felt like a plastic toy by comparison - much more like a budget entry level than an enthusiast FX camera.

The only time I've taken two changeable lens cameras out it's been the A7 and a prime and a MFT camera with 45-150mm. That's quite a nice versatile set. Other than that I've taken the A7 and a prime and the TZ100.

Actually I have a S*ny - an itsy weeny ZV-1 but my son has a A7IV - The GFX is going nowhere.
Popped into the HOP again the other day, convinced myself I needed the 100S, 30mm, 63mm and 110mm primes, left empty handed, one day Rodney :ROFLMAO:

I actually think the Sonys feel well built and solid like they’d stand the test of time (I’ve owned the A7RIV, A9II and A1). The only thing that feels cheap imo is the grip material. That being said, it would be interesting to handle a D850 again to compare as it’s a while since I had mine.
Moment had a good offer on when I bought mine. I think it was something like $70 for both!!
The cinebloom ones aren’t bad price, much cheaper than the tiffin.
Says a man with an A1 and a bucket of lenses!!!
Doesn’t stop them being expensive :p

Hi Guys, I've just treated my wife to a RX100 vi. Is there an option to have a level line on the screen? I've looked through manual on line but cannot see anything.

Many thanks indeed :)

Have you tried toggling the "Display" button?

I've received 3 £100 discount codes from Sony last month. Would these codes work for lenses purchased in stores outside the UK on Sony Europe's website for example? I'm going to mainland Europe over Easter and have found some better lens deals in Sony certified retail shops.

Only for sales in UK and republic of ireland

Just been checking out some of the new features on my A7iv - and have got the FTP transfer working - it's just what I want, mobile provides WiFi hotspot for tablet and camera to connect to, then camera transfers RAW images to tablet, where LR mobile can import them. :D
No more messing with Imaging Edge (or the new Creators App, which seemed just as flakey when I tried it!)

Cool, I'll have to look into that.

Great tit on our back garden this lunchtime

...
Nice.
We get Great Tits, Coal Tits and Long Tailed Tits in our garden, plus a couple of Robins and the occasional Nuthatch.
They're all camera shy, however, and while I've stood and watched them a few times from just outside the back door, try the same with camera in hand and they're nowhere to be seen! :(

I just Goggled Sony A7iv FTP transfer, and got a few hits on videos to demo how to set it up.
The one I watched was done with an A7iii I think, so the menus were not exactly the same, but were close enough for me to work it out.

We're lucky we get loads, great tits, blue tits, coal tits, long tailed tits, chaffinches, goldfinches, bullfinches, robins, the odd dunnock, and off course pigeons and magpies. We have just started getting siskins but the peregrine falcon (I think it was) that I posted the other day has killed a couple of siskins on our garden this week so I doubt they'll be back :(

The are very timid, pics from today are obscene crops hence the average image quality, they were also shot in the shade which doesn't help. Unfortunately from a photography perspective our back garden is set up wrong as it's south facing with trees at the bottom meaning I'm always shooting against the sun.

There are a few goldfinches around, but not been able to entice them into the garden.
Pigeons and Magpies also appear and the smaller birds mainly keep away when they're about.

We're south facing as well, but with a 6' fence and trees behind, so is normally shaded rather than shooting into the sun.
We also get green woodpeckers and the occasional greater spotted woodpecker in the woods behind the house, as well as Tawny owls - but they are only ever heard, I've yet to actually see one!

Woodpeckers would be cool. I can often hear them, and owls, around the park we back on to but I've never seen either.

I took this the other day, sounded like a 1970's telephone ring :ROFLMAO: (that's a video BTW, might have to click through to Flickr sorry)
