The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Has anyone used or got the PZ16-50mm apsc kit lens?

I was thinking of getting it for my boy, mainly to help out with his A Level photography he is doing and make things a bit easier.

He currently has the 12mm f/2, my old Samyang 35/1.8, an adapted macro & my old 28-70mm A7 kit lens which obviously isn't a great focal length range on his A6000.

I guess for about £65 it is what it is!
optically not great tbh especially in the corners. but yeah as you say for £65 is it what is it.
It is actually fair bit wider than 16mm (more like 14mm) if you turn off in camera corrections so you can get some wide angle shots with it too.

if it were up to me you could sell the 35mm/1.8 and 28-70mm and get him a sigma 18-50mm f2.8. A very nice compact zoom with great image quality that should last for a long time.
its better to have one good lens than three poor ones.

Good suggestion. Trouble is it's the f/2.8 35mm not the f/1.8!

Phone typo :ROFLMAO:

I use it on my A6000 as part of my travel kit - and for that it's a great little lens. Just make sure you have lens corrections enabled.
One thing I did get was a 3rd partly screw in lens hood (fits the filter thread), as it will suffer if you have the sun a bit out of shot without a hood of some sort.

I used one on holiday, to be fair it’s pretty decent for a cheapo lens. Like it’s been said elsewhere you’ll need to use lens corrections as it vignettes heavily at 16mm.

Also I hate the power zoom part, but it’s not really that big of a deal for some.

It's mainly so when he goes to college or on assignments for his course he can just take one lens really.

If we are out for the fun of it then for landscapes/astro/etc what he has isn't too bad & he can obviously carry more anyway.

Lens corrections should be okay as he's using a pretty up to date lightroom.

Well I’m back again, sorry been away and totally forgot about forum Lol
Well after 18 months with the A1 and not much use due to travel with work it’s in a box going to MPB and Park, ok 2 boxes LOL. The camera has been amazing but for me I don’t do video at all and having that much sat about, and only using it once or twice a month I’m downsizing
Undecided yet honestly, warming to the OM1 and Fuji H2 played with both extensively and pretty impressive for my work etc it’ll do what’s needed.

Watch I’ll be back when an A1mk2 comes out LOL. I ship Tuesday so if anybody wants to try stop me ping me ok and take it all from me.

why not try to sell it here? might get a wee bit more :)

X-T5 does look interesting to me, I can't believe I am saying this but now Sony actually has the better APS-C lens lineup and lenses I'd want to use/buy

Is there a sell section ? Happy to sell it to anybody that wants to come to Leeds.

Aren't some of these Fuji SLR style cameras the same size or even slightly bigger than an A1?

I suppose lens choice could make a difference but, not necessarily you but some on this forum seem to be making choices based on bulk and weight that seem to make little sense to me but of course I'm looking at it with my choice of lenses in mind.

I think the X-T5 looks good too, but then I have to remind myself that the ergonomics/grip are poor and I don’t like X-trans

I keep eying up the 16-35mm PZ for the size/weight but it’s just so bloomin’ expensive  :$

Yeah weight isn’t my issue Woof woof it’s having 7k of camera sat about when I should only have 3k for what I do, it’s overkill it’s a thing of beauty but I’m pretty sure I’ll get what I need from a lesser model, but it was a nice ride. It also enables me to save some cash for the next Major blow out next year. Cash in while prices are good MPB offered me a very good price but thought I’d ask here also before mindlessly shipping to them

I’ll see what happens I’ll ship Tuesday if no interest and then watch the tube for a week or 2 see where I land, but i deffo think an Om1 body as I miss all the creative stuff they do like live composite, pre focus, focus stacking etc. mate has the H2 and is in Iceland so I’ll see what he brings back

I’m a bit fan of Olympus, they do some great bodies and lenses.

Do you mind me asking what they’ve offered you for the A1?

yep there is a sale forum

yeah x-tran is a bit annoying but from what I hear its less of a problem these days.
yeah same here.... I am now thinking of a tamron 20-40mm instead and in future will add a 14GM.

LCE showing as in stock online
I think he's wanting to smuggle one in ;)

In the past the case used to be that you could get grey imports way before being able to source them in the UK.
Tamron seem to have changed that at least with latest lenses like 35-150, 50-400mm and 20-40mm. good on them.

OK. Use of the word "downsizing" threw me but if you mean freeing up money then I see your point :D

Has anyone else lost the smilies? All the top bar is greyed out for me. Just me or everyone?

I class anything other than an A1 downsizing lol, but yeah gonna spend it on other gadgets and tat

Waiting on E-Infinity.
I always worry about warranty with E-infinity, I’m not happy with the gear being sent back to Hong Kong and waiting weeks on end :(

Neither am i, which is why i would have it repaired in the UK.

My thoughts are that lenses very rarely go wrong and if one did then the saving should pay for any repair needed without using the warranty (should there be any hassle).

Probably asking for trouble but never had to test that yet.

Also, I buy used 99% of the time anyway.

Einfinity are always very cheap on Tamron, Panamoz are now often more than UK price but the 5 yr warranty is a deal clincher for me on a zoom so i'd rather pay a bit more.

I know people that have ended up stung by having to return faulty goods to Einfinity and i'd rather not take the chance.

I also got an excellent trade in price against the 28-75 G2 at Park, more than I was being offered on here and ebay so it's not always a straight forward comparison. Very much swings and roundabouts.

I too buy used.

With lenses you can end up with decentered copy like I did with a new tamron 35-150mm.
Swapping was zero issue with LCE and stress free.
Wouldn't have been the same with e-infin

Just very the latest one if you can afford it, the new redesigned lens is worth it.

I did think about it but the v is more expensive and the f is 99% there and I'm quite happy with the original lens, even close up :D

Yesterday I had to just about force myself to take the X100s out as I thought "Why am I taking this when the A7 is a better camera?" so this is just a gas buy to use occasionally and I can't really justify the extra £300-£500 more that a v will cost, even a used one.

It's not really 99% of the V, i've had both more than once, the V is in a different league, not just the lens but the AF seems far snappier to me.

@robj20 - there is £75 discount on eBay for the 20-40mm. You can get it for £804 for a UK copy from the camera center.
May be it's of some use to you
£804 isn't bad.
I do wonder if the lens is likely to drop in price within a few months, what's the history like for Tamron lenses, do they carry a premium at release.

All lenses do, it’s just a matter of how long you want to wait. I usually wait or buy used but with the 70-200mm GM II it was a lens I’d been after for a long time so was willing to pay the premium. You have to also weigh up how much you’re going to use it, those extra weeks/months use before the price drops could be worth paying the premium for.
