The e mount ones are clearly better on Sony. There's a massive thread on this on Fred Miranda. If you can find it and wade through it.

My own experience with the 35mm f1.4's is that the difference is striking.

Yeah, I've read FM forums thread twice, through all the pages in last couple of months :)
When looking at photos from Lee here, or these below, which are VM lens on A9, I don't really see any issues with this combo, those photos look great for me. I know that for professional photographers they have some differences and issues, like field curvature and those corners, but for my personal use, I don't really see them there, if you know what I mean:)

Take pictures in lens challenging conditions or look closely and look for the differences and you'll very likely see them.

It's up to you, it's your money and you're doing this with your eyes wide open. I do see your point about bulk and weight.

For me I still have the 200-600mm and no plans to sell it either.
I am looking for a more "do-it-all" lens for travelling, landscape and wildlife.
On the other hand I am wondering if I am better off looking at APS-C.

I just upgraded form Sony A7II to A7C and cannot find option to View on TV, wireless options are missing - I guess a7c has a bit different menu - where can I find it?
 
Moody Soho night shot. I used low light setting in Topaz to clean up some noise. I got a Flickr Explore reward for this. :)

I still have my 200-600mm but there are times when I just don't need 600mm (but with the 100-400mm and 1.4x it's still an option).
Also the 200-600mm is a bit on the large side and I tend to carry it on it's own whereas I will take out the 24-105mm with the 100-400mm.

Yeah true, that's the I used to do.
I am wondering if I could do tamron 20-40mm with 50-400mm. Sony combination is undoubtedly better especially at the long end and with autofocus.
It's a hard choice, first world problems :P
 
I bought a Fuji. I got a X100s.

I just wanted a new toy and I found one at what I thought was a good price. It's black and silver. I don't think it's going to replace anything I already have.

What will you go for? On older model or the v?

In that vid I posted the other day Manny Ortiz says the v's eye detect isn't so good and he has to sometimes has to reposition the focus point and that does seem disappointing but there are other benefits. This old one will do me as all I want is something modern but simple that'll give a bit of the experience of the Kodak Instamatic I started with.

Oh, the higher ISO of this s looks good but I think the raw files must be cooked as there's little colour noise but also it looks like that is at the cost of some detail I'd expect to see.

I am also thinking may be get the X-Pro2? Since I already have some lenses. I have the X-Rpo 1, whilst i love the shape, the feel of it, the minute i look through the offset optical viewfinder i don't like it, I switch to the EVF...

So I am still in 2 minds. I might just get the X-T3 lol
 
Sony ZVE10 mid-holiday update.

Having no minimum shutter on AutoISO is annoying but working around it using manual mode.
The tap to track autofocus is VERY good - probably better AF than my A7iii
Image quality is decent
Not having a viewfinder, has not bothered me in the slightest - which is very surprising. Having a flappy screen works for me.
Having the Sony logo upside down on the screen when in use is VERY annoying.

I can't see myself spending too much on APS-C as I do like the FF A7 and I really only use MFT when I want smaller kit, long lenses and/or silent shooting. An APS-C system with changeable lenses will possibly rival the A7 for bulk and weight so I can't really see it replacing either my A7 or MFT kit so really it's just a gas buy for me but I will use the X100s as a reasonably cheap simple 35mm equivalent camera.

I have had the original, X100, the S and the T.

Don't expect to much from the the lens it is very soft wide open, almost unusable wide open tbh. It does get a little better at f/2.8 and is okay at f/4. A.F is very pedestrian.

Just my HO based on a few test shots...

The lens is soft at MFD but would you want to be shooting at f2 and MFD anyway? At f2.8 it's much better but even at f2.8 on APS-C with a 23mm lens you're going to have very little in the dof. IMO the lens being soft at f2 and close distance is a disappointment but in the real world you'll probably be stopping down a bit anyway.
 
Back to Sony.

I read a lot of criticism of the Sony 28mm f2 on another forum. I haven't used mine much but although I can see how people could find things to criticise I also think it's a good lens, after correction and for the bulk, weight and money.

But would you be using a camera like this for close up pictures at f2? I guess you wouldn't be doing that too often.

Yup. I think there are a few points to upgrade and also I wonder if they'll do an SLR layout APS-C for those who don't like the evf in the corner.
 
TBH unless trying to keep weight down is overwhelmingly important then I can't see why you would want APS-C (and you might just buy M43 and save a bit more). To me it seems like a pointless format.

I just don’t really stop down, unless there are multiple people in the scene. When there is 1…yes, wide open is like my default, especially inside.

I prefer 1.4…on 35mm FF and i sometimes want even thinner DOF.

2.0 on APS-C, or 2.8….its an ocean of space.
