I guess it depends on preference really. I like to have adjustments remembered so that if I refine my flash photography settings to obtain the results I want based on ambient light - and I want to switch over to flash free photography for a certain look - it's nice to be able to come back to that custom mode and have your settings where you left them rather than having to dial them back in. I guess I could save them quickly to another custom mode before switching, but it's an extra step.
I know with my Canon R6 you can have it either way - so you can have it so that the changes are either automatically updated, or not. I guess I just need to change my way of shooting
