The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

The lens is only for a one off Safari, I doubt I will be into wildlife photography just landscape when I am home, so I don't to spend a fortune on a lens, if I can get away with a 55-210

Then buy something decent and sell it again when you get back

I imagine the Safari isn't cheap and could be a once in a lifetime trip so why spoil it with a cheap lens?

How much would you want for it?
Unfortunately I can't deal outside the sales forum, we both can get a ban for it.
You seem to have been a member long enough, may be with a few more posts you'll be allowed in.

As Mike rightly said if it's once in a lifetime trip, do you really want to come back regretting you had a better lens.
If you buy used you can always sell the lens on for little to no loss.

Well the bundle went, so I'd just like to say Thank you to all in this thread for all the help over the years I had Sony Full Frame.

Dave, you've been a fixture in this thread for quite some time so please come back anytime as we might just miss you in the other threads as there are so many and no one can catch everything :D I know other threads can be a bit.... cantankerous at times maybe? but here it's usually if not exactly perpetual peacefulness and light then at least mildly friendly :D so even if "all" you have is Fuji or Oly files I'm sure I speak for many of the regulars here when I say feel free to post them and chat about them in here, because we'll miss you :D

I've always said, this thread the 52 and Fuji are my favourites as so helpful and friendly.

So here is my first of many shots taken with the RX100 III I took today, this is a beautiful little box my mother gave me just before she went to a care home. It is older than me and I'm 61, Mum said she wanted me to have it as all the other things that are Mums ie the flat she left me is going to be sold to fund her care. I still have more things to collect from the flat as my mother is not happy I have to sell the flat. I will take a better shot as the whole box is stunning.

Spooky AI stuff on the rumor site...

Maybe that stuff could make even my pictures look in focus?

Seems the free trial isn't working, just takes you straight to buy, wouldn't mind trying it for 14 days if they sort out their links

Cameras with zoom lenses...

I had a Nikon SLR with a zoom lens for a long time but before and after that I had fixed lens cameras and haven't really used zooms all that much except with that Nikon SLR. When I do use one I tend to get a bit frustrated because I think I'm stood in about the right place and then I have to fiddle with the zoom and of course I don't have that problem with a prime.

I've been having a teeny bit of gas and looking at a camera with a fixed zoom but what's stopping me pressing the buy button is that I remember this frustration I get when using my TZ100.

Does anyone else get this? Maybe I'm the only stick in the mud.

Great images Toby, 1 and 3 are fantastic.
Cheers Dave, much appreciated

Not really, a lot of the time I just use the extreme ends of the zooms so it’s a case of knowing what FL I want, setting it then composing.

Same for me. I tend to use my MFT zooms at the end of their range. It's the more standard zooms like 24 or 28 to 70 or longer that I'm finding a bit of a faff as when you go to use it it's at 24/28 and if I want 35 or 50 I have the faff on of setting it... So I don't think I should bother with this latest gas buy.

1st world problem I know :D

Ah, I see someone is selling bags... No good can come of this. Photographers need bags. The question is... how many?

That Billingham Digital looks nice but I already have one. Hmmm. Is one enough?

I very nearly got the Billingham Digital last week, but thought to small for my Fuji.

I feel I'm in the minority here but bags like that Billingham look horrible to me.
I have a ThinkTank Retrospective 5 at the minute but do fancy a Peak Design Sling 3 for times when I have a small lens on and nothing extra.
The TT does me grand on holiday, camera, bottle of water and some suncream and I'm set for the day.

I have one and I gave it a bad review as it looks relatively big but no matter what camera I put in it it seemed to make the bag bulge and I did think that this would lead to wear marks. These days I've accepted that Billingham bags are meant to bulge.

I do like them but even if they're ugly I do like that there's no velcro or zips to make a distracting noise when you want to get the kit out. They're also hard wearing and keep the water out too. I have a Lowepro which has had a much easier life but is now stained and worn and that hasn't happened to the Billinghams.

The Think tank has the option to "turn off" the velcro. Has a rain cover as well but never used it as don't trust my none water-resistant Sony cameras in the rain.

My A7 has survived many a downpour :D

Dunno if you can see the rain here...

It's not a risk I'm willing to take. Give them an IP rating and remove the get out clause in the warranty and I'll use them in the rain, until then. Nope.

It's really not that hard to make them waterproof I don't understand why they don't.

Anyway back to your topic of GAS, i fancy the aforementioned Peak Design bag and a Pack Design Carbon Tripod. Odd bit is I don't even like tripods.
