The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Are you sure about that ?

The Tamron 70-180 performance at 200

I have made my comment about 70-180mm vs. sony 70-200mm f4
Just because Sony goes to 200mm doesn't necessarily mean it will be better at 200mm than tamron cropped from 180mm to match the same field of view. Given the difference in sharpness I feel cropping tamron is better than Sony 70-200mm at 200mm.

I can't be any more clearer than that.

if someone can afford something like a Sony 70-200mm f2.8 GM2, by all means that's going to be the best option for 200mm.

Other news... Someone in the wanted section is looking for a Sony A7c in silver.

I like reviewers like him, showing a bit of joy and excitement.

Bit off topic but I'm really disappointed in the new camera on the iPhone 14. I was considering upgrading due to the new 48mp camera but it's only 48mp in 'normal' camera fov, for UWA and Tele it's still only 12mp, feels a bit of a 'con'.

Fancy buying it without reading the specs.

I think you misunderstood my post. I haven't bought it, I was considering it until I saw the full specs as you've just listed.

Yeah. I’m with you Toby. Nearly bought the bloody thing..

I don't use iPhones but missus does and I have said no more iPhones for her either until they move to USB-C

Both my old Iphone 11 and 12 pro are in the draw as don't use them anymore, as got the Samsung S22 Ultra.
Doesn't make sense for me to go Android as everything else I have is Apple (y)

I will shortly be getting a new to me phone. I've been using an old Samsung hand me down in a girly sparkly cover but Mrs WW is getting a new phone for her birthday so I'll get hers :D

Are you buying her one with a manual focus camera ? ;)

I wish :D

When I talk to her about Minolta Rokkors I could swear she isn't listening.

She could have whatever she wants. She keeps eyeing up those folding ones and I said that's fine but she'll end up picking a cheaper Samsung. She has an Apple of some sort left over from when she worked but I don't think she uses it.

My wife has the Samsung Z flip, she loves it.

B hell. What did she say or do:)

USB c would be good though, maybe iPhone 15
Any reason USB-C is more useful than lightening (or any other for that matter)? I can’t remember the last time I connected my phone to anything

I’ve never connected an iPhone to anything, that’s what AirDrop is for and the newer ones can be charged via MagSafe

Just one less cable to carry for charging really, MacBook and camera are USB C & battery charger though we have an old iPad Pro that is lightening. Never been keen on MagSafe charging but not looked into it for ages, IIRC used to generate a bit more heat but maybe newer kit has fixed that.

Yeah use airdrop a lot, Samsung android have similar though

The thing is that Mrs WW had a similar upbringing to me as in the early days our parents had nothing. We're comfortable now and can afford any "thing" we want but that be careful with money mindset sometimes gets a bit engrained and hard to shake. She could have whatever phone she wants but I'm sure she'll pick a cheap Samsung.

I just genuinely do not care about phones. Might as well be handbags :D

So my planned lens line up for Weddings with weight in mind will be the: Tampon 28-75mm f/2.8 G2, either Zeiss 55mm or G Master 50mm, Sony 85mm f/1.8. All I need in addition is a light wide angle - unless I just keep my canon 16-35mm f/4 and add a MC-11 adapter and add a wide prime later. I may get a Tampon Are there any Sony users planning to jump to Canon?

I'm going to miss my Canon RF 70-200mm f/4 which was a beautiful lens - and I think I'll be hard pressed finding something as light, compact and as optically amazing.

Can you please stop calling them tampons

Consider the tamron 70-180mm f2.8 instead of the RF70-200mm.

The new Sony 16-35mm G is incredibly light but it's expensive and not yet easily available on used market as it's new.

I have considered jumping up canon many times but they haven't really got the lenses I want.
I'm considering Nikon more recently.... But they haven't got a body with AF on level of A7IV. And Z9 is just too bloated for my liking.

I use the Canon 16-35mm f/4 with the MC-11 on my A9, works a treat.

Do you use any other canon lenses with your MC-11? What’s your experiences been?

This might interest some... From the rumor site...

There's a bit too much zooming for me, but what do I know.

16-35mm L f/4, 24-105mm L f/4, 100mm L macro, 70-200mm L f/2.8 II, 70-300mm L, 400mm f/5.6 L, 100-400mm L II, Sigma 180mm macro, Sigma 24-35mm f/2 Art, Sigma 150-600mm Sport.

All work extremely well although the telephotos tend to hunt more than native lenses which has cost me some missed shots.

I think you're brave doing Weddings with adapted glass, if I was doing paid work I'd want at least Native lenses, preferably all Sony, the only possible exception to this being the Sigma 85mm Art DG DN. Don't get me wrong, adapted glass can work very well and more than good for most enthusiasts/hobbyists, I'm just not sure I'd trust it if I HAD to nail that perfect moment.

The Canon RF 70-200mm f4 does look amazingly small and compact, I assume this would mainly be used outdoors with it being f4?
