The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Questioning whether I should have bought my IR converted A7 now.
It's a 720nm conversion and I really only intended shooting for B&W as I like the look it gives.
However I've just been out for a short walk with the A7 and my A7C and took these 2 shots.

So one is IR and one is an edit to give a "close to IR" look.
Should I sell the converted camera?
I prefer the 2nd whichever that is.

Quick one from Sunday evening, went up to Beachy Head for sunset with the dogs. A7iii and 24-105, this is honestly such a good lens, I love it.

Lighting in the original was wonderfully warm, just boosted up the shadows & exposure a bit in post.

I've just tried my 100-400mm with the 1.4x TC and it's sharp at all distances, even several hundred metres away so I've no idea what what going on at Silverstone. It really doesn't look like heat haze so maybe it was heat build up in the lens hood, or maybe it was just the catch fencing causing issues for some reason (not sure why though). Very odd.

Just for fun.

The other day, Sony 35mm at f1.8.

Some time ago, Voigtlander 40mm at f1.2.

Got to try the 400mm f2.8 today. Initially I thought it was much lighter than I was expecting but then after using it a while I could only hand hold it for a minute or so before having to lower it and let my arms rest for a bit.

Lovely rendering and very sharp. AF wasn’t as fast as I thought it would be though

I'm not a big user of longer lenses. I have the Panasonic 100-400mm f4-6.3 and there are times when I wish the rendering was more FF like but a FF equivalent would be much bigger and heavier and probably more than I'd be willing to spend.

Sony don’t do an 800mm lens AFAIK but the Canon 800mm f11 isn’t too heavy at 1.2kg

EdBray has put an A7IV and some Sony and Tamron lenses up for sale. There are quite a few.

Hi all,

I am using a Sony A6600 and sigma 150-600 Contemporary canon EF mount via Sigma MC-11 adapter
Recently I have been on a Fox shoot and though the animal eye detect acquired the fox's I can not understand why the faces / eyes are not sharp ! ! !

Drive mode Hi+
Focus Mode AF-C
Focus Area - flexible spot expanded
Auto ISO
A6600 and lens on Gimbal head & Tripod

All images are straight from camera, no editing at all apart from crop to enable upload to this site

They're not big enough to assess properly, there could be a number of reasons why they're not sharp tbh. Great shots though, what a privilege to see and photograph these wonderful animals.

Another Question,
why can I not get auto focusing while in video mode ! ?

My canon 7Dii had Dual Pixel AF while in video mode !

many thanks

T
Is this using the MC-11 adapter or just in general?

Great shot that, looking straight down the lens. Looks like it could do with a bit of an exposure bump to my eyes.

I am hoping to start editing very soon.

MC-11 with canon EF 100mm L IS USM macro lens, not sure about the Sigma 150-600C will have to do some testing
I'm not sure all adapted lenses can focus with video. I'm not 100% sure as I don't do video but there's something in the back of my mind that this is the case.

Went to the Sony/LCE event yesterday at Newstead abbey and the Hawkeye Bird of Prey Centre. Was really good, however due to the heat and the risk of the birds overheating we had to shoot a lot in the shade so light wasn't the best meaning high ISO, thank goodness for Topaz Denoise ;)

That's a great picture Ant :D

Cheers mate, I was hoping it might fly in my direction to get some on the wing shots but unfortunately it turned it's back and flew the wrong way. Still pretty cool experience.
