The rumor site talking about the upcoming Sigma 20 and 24mm f1.4's.

I agree. Very dapper. But he needs to take that mask off from under his chin and get a hair cut.

I think I maybe missing your point there Alan, he's not wearing a mask and you can hardly see his hair for his hat.

Ah! Him!

I see it now :D Sorry :D

I was looking at the rather stylish person in the centre / bottom left of the shot, with the Looking Good T shirt.

Not quite sure on the wording on that, says you can shoot 2-50 photos at 30-195fps. Does that mean that you can select these rates, or that it will be able to do these depending on shooting conditions? If it's the latter I wonder how often you will get 50 photos at 195fps, and I would also question why you would want this? This gives you roughly 0.25s worth of shooting

Now don't get me wrong, the numbers are impressive but I'd imagine real world usage is less impressive. For me 20fps is too much, and I can't see why anyone would need more than 30fps as basically you're shooting a movie and picking a frame from it. I can't help that it's a marketing tool for the most part. I'm sure we will see frame rate go into silly numbers though, just like megapixels will, they've got to sell new cameras somehow.

I can think of quite a few reasons I would want extra fps particularly if you have the choice to choose. Dropping an object into water for product photography. A free kick or penalty to get the perfect ball/body position. Combined with something like pre capture for a car/bike/skier coming over a hill blind to you before they appear. It is one of those features you would only use occasionally but it could come in really handy. Even the A1 at 30fps it isn't unusual to wish there was a frame in between the two you like. The 195fps is more than I would be interested in but the ability to shoot 60 or 100 every now and again could be very useful.
Most bursts I take at football are probably 5 or 6 frames so less than the 0.25s you quote. I wouldn't want more frames to choose from for general play but there would be uses for it and if the camera can do it(Nikon and Canon can) then perhaps Sony should look to improve their flagship.

A couple of times recently I've thought I've taken a picture and I actually haven't, I must not have pressed the shutter button properly. I do wish Sony would allow us to change the colour of the box on the A9ii that flashes to represent a photo has been taken to something more visible like the A1 but they don't seem to want to add it for some reason. I tried using the fake shutter sound but it's too loud, is there a way to change the volume of this?

Also, does anyone know a way of submitting feedback to Sony?
The Manual suggests you have 4 options for the shutter indication - either a frame around the focus area, or the 4 corner blocks, and light / dark for each option.

Note sure if this helps?

Thanks, are you sure this is for the A9ii though as there's nothing in my manual on those pages?

Yes, at least, it's from the online PDF manual from the Sony UK website.
It's near the end of the 'Shutter Setting' section, in the camera menu it's; [Camera Setting 2], [Shoot Timing Disp], Options are : On : Type 1-4, Off

Cool, thanks a lot. I’ll have a look at the camera when I get home as the manual I downloaded must be different.

Ooh, just found it in the manual, page 75 for me. Will definitely try this tonight (y)

You sir are a star, that worked, thanks very much

I don't usually bemoan Sony's menu but I'd have never thought in a million years that [Shoot Timing Disp] referred to the visual aid during silent shooting o_O

Glad to help - I can certainly understand why it wasn't obvious!
It was just something I remembered seeing in the early reviews of the A9, the boxes flashing in the corners as the only way of knowing it was taking shots, and thinking it was a neat mechanism to allow it to be totally silent.
It was then just a case of grabbing the manual and finding it - and a lucky guess as to where it would be!

I've been wondering about how I pursue my little hobby. I haven't had time to do much recently and that's sort of focussed my mind a bit on having less and smaller kit. Something like one main FF camera and just two or three lenses and a second MFT camera and a couple of lenses such as the 45-150mm as I have nothing like this for the Sony and a fast prime. I've sold a few manual lenses (5 I think) and may sell some more if not on here then to a used seller, maybe just keeping a couple for fun.

I keep looking at the A7c but I just know the lack of a second top of camera control will drive me mad. I recently bought a Panasonic G100 which also lacks a second top of camera control and I have to admit that although I'm trying hard I just don't like the back wheel as I find it uncomfortable to use deliberately and far too easy to jog accidentally (I'm constantly dialling in exposure compensation) so this is putting me off spending £1,700 on a similar A7c.

1st world issues I suppose.

I recently looked at the A7c to partner the 28-60mm lens and a lighter walkabout but it's not so much the second control dial for me, more the lack of joystick to move the AF point meaning you'd have to press a button first to activate the d-pad to move the AF point. It just becomes annoying.

I could live with that as none of my cameras have a joystick, so I don't know any better.

James gives himself 30 second to get to the beach :D

I think he's right on taking pictures to please ourselves.

The power zoom put me off this, but looking at that video it looks OK, goes from 16 to 35mm pretty quickly. I wonder how precise you can get it?

Shame it's so expensive, I might have considered it otherwise.

I don't mind not having a joystick per se, but it's the problem of not having immediate access to move the AF point. Having the joystick prevents this (y)

DSLR talk.

You may have seen talk of Nikon saying they were pulling out of DSLR's. Here Nikon's general manager responds...

What interested me was that picture of the Nikon Z30. It's APS-C and lacks an EVF. I can't see myself ever buying another serious camera without some form of VF. I did briefly have a Panasonic GF1 but arms length photography or anything like it just isn't for me.

Oh look... There's a Samyang 135mm f1.8 in the classifieds,

I was torn between the a7iii and a7c when I was planning my last purchase. The a7iii won in the end due to the bigger EVF and the additional control dials etc, but I do take a longing look at the a7c every now and again purely for the compact size. I wanted to move away from DSLR due to the size but truth be told, the a7iii isn't too much different. Maybe an a7c mark ii might persuade me to make the jump...

Still blown away by the image quality though, my old Canon 7D was a brilliantly capable camera but the dynamic range of the Sony is just leagues above. Got a few images from Dorset at the weekend I'm working on, I know Durdle Door has been photographed from the mainland every which way til Sunday, but I'm pretty happy with one I've got!

I'll probably just end up keeping my A7 but I would like silent shooting and faster operation as every time I go from MFT to the A7 I notice how slow it is in comparison. An A7III would give me silent shooting and it'd focus faster too but it would also be larger than my old A7 which is why I keep looking at the A7c. I should just stop looking at the A7c :D

I really do doubt that Sony will add an extra control wheel to any A7cII, it could happen but looking at the A6xxx series I doubt it :(
