Samyang 35mm f1.8's arrived today, badly decentered so is going back :rolleyes: I just hope the 50mm f1.4 FE II is better.

Annoyingly 2 corners are exceptionally sharp at f1.8, as good as some of my other lenses stopped down :eek:

A9 all day long.

Has to be the best value for money used camera you can buy at the moment.

If you'r buying new, then A7 III all the way as you will save a fortune on money.

Tough call that. The A9 is the better camera imo, but I don’t like the ergonomics as much. However, compared to your A7 it’s miles better, the 1st gen ergos are horrible ;)

I don't have a problem with it and one thing that does bother me a bit is that the newer model are bigger and wont fit in the Lowepro bag I sometimes put my A7 and 35mm f2.8 in, it's a tight fit with he half case on but it goes in. I guess if/when I get a new A7/A9 I just wont be able to use hat bag any more.

Never worry you have been talking about changing that A7 for at least 3 years that I can remember and its not happened yet.
 
What’s the best way these days to trigger a A7iii without going near it, much like the goal cameras in football matches? Ideally not relying on my phone.

There is a bluetooth controller and a wireless remote commander.

Phone is easiest though.

Every time I look I change my mind and don't bother as I've only had it, what 7 years now? It's hardly run in but the covering on the RHS is blebbing.

I had a birthday a few weeks back and couldn't think of anything to buy myself so I was just looking. Maybe. Maybe not :D

You probably don't need to change to be honest.

The biggest advantages with the newer camera is speed and a.,f accuracy at speed. Yeah off course there will be a bit of a difference in image quality and the colours are a fair bit better.

In your position I would probably just use the A7 till it dies.,

I use a wireless remote shutter, got a very good range.

The one obvious thing that's missing from my A7 is silent shooting and I expect the newer cameras to be faster to focus too and that would make a difference to me as the fact that my A7 is slow and lacks an electronic shutter means I have to hang on to my MFT kit which is much faster in operation and has the electronic shutter option. If I replaced my A7 with something faster acting with silent shooting I'd possibly ditch most of my MFT kit but there are occasions when I need one or both of those things, speed and/or silent shooting.

I'll think about it over the coming days, weeks, months and years.

PS.
My MFT kit can show banding under flickering artificial lighting, that's one issue they have.

The sony bluetooth remote is excellent. Pixel make one that works well and is a wireless clone of the Nikon and Canon intervalopers. Do you need to trigger from another camera so it is taking images at the same time as you are taking on main body. If so you can get Pocketwizard 3s to work but both cameras need cables which is a complete pain

I think for the price of a second hand A9 you could buy a new A7 III and still have change over.
Eye AF is great and works a treat for me in my jazz shots on the A7 III, but in time it will be you'r choice what to get.

How is bending with the electronic shutter?

With MFT it can be very noticeable.

I have electronic shutter always on and in the church jazz I did get some banding and one outdoors shot with banding in the sky but that might of been down to my editing.
 
The A9 was groundbreaking, hence why it's still such a formidable camera. The A7iii was and is a brilliant allrounder.

I've been tempted more than once to update my A7iii for an A9 (although A9 is the older camera so not really update haha). I want the better AF that it offers, specifically for dog, bird and wildlife use.

I've not owned the A7iii but did own the A7R IV and currently own all three of the stacked sensor cameras. For me the evf experience is so much better with the stacked sensor cameras but I tend to shoot mostly moving subjects. If you shoot lots of frames it is always nice to not worry about the shutter count on the stacked sensor bodies too. The AF was miles better on the A9 than the A7R iv so I assume that will be the case on the A7iii too but again that depends on your subjects and how much superior AF would matter.

I'm with addickchips and think the A9 is possibly the best bang for the buck used camera on the market.

What is the A9 less good at? Is the A7III better at landscape, or does it have effectively greater dynamic range?
