Can’t you check Signa’s website to see if there is a firmware update available before you buy the dock?

Third party lenses will never be as capable in terms of a.f as oem. Surprised at that though as the 85 has a great rep. What’s it like at say 10fps? It won’t do the full 20fps maxes out at 15fps usually for third party lenses.

Maybe the fact it can’t do the full 20fps is causing some sort of issues, just a thought.
Don't get me wrong it's not horrendous, but if you do a sequence of say 10 shots at 1:1 you can see that some are sharper than others. It's a bit like the focus variations you experience with DSLR.

I've tried the different drive speeds, Focus priorities, focus sensitivity modes etc and it doesn't appear to make any difference. The only thing I've not tried is manual shutter but I can't see why this would make any difference.

I assumed you'd need the dock to check the current firmware :facepalm:
 
Just picked up my A7iv, just goes to show it’s not what you know it’s who you know.

Ordered from my local WEX the other day and was told they couldn’t give a date as they have 20 odd pre orders in front of me.

Got a phone call earlier on from the guy I normally deal with to say he has stuck me to the front of the list and I can pick mine up. :p

I'm trying to update the firmware on my Sony A9-II and have followed all the instructions on here for the Silicon Mac, I've changed the security settings and installed the driver fine, and downloaded the updater OK, however when I open the updater the window displays for about a second or two and then closes again. I've tried restarting the computer, and I've tried re-downloading the updater but nothing's worked, anyone any ideas please?



EDIT: Despite the instructions saying do not connect the camera at this point this is what the problem was, as soon as I connected the camera and then opened the software it worked :rolleyes:

I actually thought that but then you mentioned buying the dock. :)

Yeah, .01 but I can't find out from the Sigma site what the latest version is so I've emailed them.

I was in a couple of weeks ago with my missus and everyone said hello and my missus was like, that's it you are in here way too often!
 
Yeah, .01 but I can't find out from the Sigma site what the latest version is so I've emailed them.

Just try installing it, if you already have the latest firmware it will just fire up a message saying its already installed.

Just had a long winded argument by email with Sony pro support,

They were refusing to add my new A7IV to my pro support as all U.K A7IV's they said should have a serial number starting with 3, mine starts with a 6. Even though I sent them a copy of the WEX invoice.

Had to end up sending them a video of the menu on the camera including all the language options etc. Right pain in the bum, but got there in the end.

Might be worth seeing what WEX say maybe they have a few grey cameras.

No was all sorted, the stock I got from only hit the U.K on Friday and newer versions have a serial number starting with 6. Sony have confirmed the camera is a legit EEA product.

They were even able to tell me that it was manufactured last month. The confusion was because I was the first person to register an A7IV with a serial number beginning with a 6.

This won't be a popular comment but if I had ordered one from Wex this comment would be enough for me to cancel my order and I'll be sure not to pre order anything from there going forward.
 
Totally agree, May be a good customer but it's poor for the folk waiting in the queue!

Can tell you right now they aren’t.

I know a guy who has a special relationship with Park Caneras for example and another who gets special treatment from LCE.

Even the online only sellers will try and look after their best customers, I have a very good relationship with Panamoz for example.

Same with everything really. Just as an example about a year or so ago my missus was looking a new car, hunted for ages to find what she wanted as they were hard to get at the time. Even got in touch with an uncle who is in the trade to help source one.

Then one popped up for sale at a local dealers I phoned them straight away and they sent a video and I just decided I would just go ahead and buy it Gave the guy my card details and was told to ring back the next day to arrange collection.

Rang back the next day and was told they would ring me back this went on all day then late in the afternoon they phoned back and said that they were sorry that someone else had bought the car. Another sales guy had sold it. They apologised and said the guy I dealt with had forgot to process my card payment so it was still showing as for sale.

Got a phone call that evening from my uncle. Turned out he had bought the car for us. They told him someone was trying to buy it. They let him have it though as they have a good relationship with him, he paid 2k less for it than I would have.

That is just the way the world works like it or not. A good business will build relationships.

Comparing the car situation is a little different, it’s not a pre order and is a first come first served. It was also a staff mistake.
I don’t think it’s right and definitely not to boast about it.

It wasn’t a staff mistake though.

That was something they made up to give a reason why I couldn’t buy the car.

My uncle hadn’t even paid for the car when he phoned that night they had just held it for him. I ended up going up and picking it up myself from the dealer.

Also I wasn’t boasting just pleased I didn’t have to wait. For some reason no matter what you say on here some people look for ways to twist it.

@nandbytes for example has said many times in this thread that LCE often give him discount that isn’t available to others due to the relationship he has with them but nobody gets their knickers in a twist over that.

Exactly why I couldn't care less where I order from, cheapest reliable place gets my money.

Again, this is a total different situation to a pre order and to be fair I’ve had discount from most shops when visiting in person (excluding big high street names), that’s for photography kit and other kit. You only need to ask.
