I always wanted a bike. I never got one. I rode other peoples though.

As my initials are AJS I wanted one :D

I think they're still in business but these days selling made in China stuff. You still get the badge though :D

My first was a little FS1E, then got a Suzuki GT185 last bike was a Kawasaki Z1000 in green.

When I was a teenager a few of my friends had Yamahas and Googling tells me they got No.1 spot in 2021. Nice to see Triumph at No.7.

I tend to use large single point with tracking and eye af and stickability around 3. If I can get it locked on it is usually pretty good at sticking. My dog is black with brown eyes though, if I was shooting something with easier to see eyes I may use wide or zone. I think it also tend to depend on how much the head moves up and down when running so trial and error are needed and don't expect 100% success unless you are shooting with a small aperture and distant dog

Not often shot under a night sky though ;)

5 landscape images for the foreground taken under moonlight.
7 tracked portrait images for the sky 90 minutes later after moonset.

Taken from different angles so maybe a sort of composite....??

Anyway, my first tracked panorama & with the 24GM on the A7

So the new 24-70 f/2.8 GM2 is not an internal zoom. Can't help but think that is a pretty backwards step.

Yes I know the old one wasn't either but still.

Anyway it is supposed to be the smallest & lightest ever 24-70 f/2.8

Launched next week apparently.

I'd expect a lens like this to be internal zoom, didn't realise the gen 1 wasn't either.

I’m sure it’ll be a great lens, but I do think it’s a shame. Not one on my radar though so I’ll not lose any sleep over it ;)
 
I found this interesting. Some bloke using a 50mm f2,5 G in Venice.


He makes an interesting point about us all seeing different pictures.

Assuming it does, what about a very small bird at a distance, with a camera that fits in a pocket...

As far as I'm concerned anyone wanting to post pictures taken with any Sony kit or wanting to talk about any Sony kit is more than welcome and I can't see anyone else here objecting either :D

Half the time people are taking about Canon or Nikon kit or even Fuji and that's fine as competition news keeps it all relevant and dragging things back with a HX90 seems pretty spot on to me :D

I'm trying to carry my TZ100 more (about 25-250mm but it sometimes seems to report 270mm) but I do prefer a prime and since I got the GM5 that's what I'm tending to reach for with the 20mm f1.7 if I don't want to take my A7.

Just on that TZ100, I wish it was possible to set it to come on at a specific focal length on power on. You can set it to return to the last used focal length but I would prefer the option of being able to set a specific length so I could have 35mm on power on but go wider or longer if I wanted and have it return to 35mm next time it's turned on. If I could do that I think I'd use it more.

The A65 with Tamron 16~300mm is "mature" technology these days but it still takes very acceptable snaps...

I enjoy their videos, he recently changed to Sony gear as well.

Just watched that video, I'm trying to decide on a lightweight 50mm ish lens. I'd love the Sigma f1.4 but it's undeniably massive.
Main two lenses I'm looking at are the 50mm f2.5 in the video above, and the Sony/Zeiss 55mm f1.8...

The Samyang 45mm f1.8 is very lightweight and produces excellent images, and then if you want the next step up there’s the Samyang 50mm f1.4 FE II, lighter than the gen 1 and very light for an f1.4.

For me the Sony 55mm is too clinical with little character. YMMV

I've never knowingly come across him before but have bookmarked him now and will have a look at his vids when I have time.

Instead of clinical and lacking in character I'd say it's more transparent whilst lacking some of the more obvious things you could point at that other lenses may impose on a picture. I think it's sharp and with good contrast the only real issues being some CA, some vignetting, cats eye bokeh and that it's 55 and f1.8 rather than 50mm and f1.4. Until I got the Voigtlander 50mm f2 I thought the Sony 55mm was the best 50ish lens I'd ever used but I haven't used any of the f1.4 or f1.2 behemoths and probably never will because of their bulk.
 
The key question for me has always been: do I have the right lens on my camera when I see the picture?

This is why I will always favour zoom lenses over primes (A65 / 16~300mm Tamron) ...

I suppose it depends a lot on what you want to take pictures of. That's just not a picture I'd want to take as I have next to no interest in planes plus, with all respect, the quality seems to be very poor. As a record shot for a plane spotter I suppose it works and for all I know it works very well but it's just not a picture that I can relate to or that I'd want to take or look at. We all see the world slightly differently and have different interests, there's room for all.

I can see why some love the flexibility of zooms, it's just that for most of my life I've used fixed focal length lenses and they seem to be what I'm used to. One thing which does put me off zooms, well, two things actually, are the bulk and weight and the more limited aperture.
