One thing with manual lenses, at least the shorter ones and I'd include 50mm in this, is that you can sometimes get away without focusing as you can go all hyperfocal, Merklinger and zone with them more easily than with a fly by wire lens. IMO. You can even di this and capture "action."

Great deal for somebody. I really like the 90mm macro and it is a nice portrait lens too. Killer price with the flash. One day I will get lucky enough for one of your bargains. Don't suppose you have an A9 ii you are wanting rid off

A top end 28mm seems to have been bypassed by Sony and Voigtlander. It's not something I'd be interested in as I have the f2 and that's good enough for me but looking around the various forums there do seem to be people waiting for a top end 28mm and it's probably overdue.

When I see people staring at smartphone screens and ignoring those they're with I always feel a little pang of sadness inside. When I see people walking or even worse driving and looking at smartphone screens I feel a little pang of anger inside.

An ex of mine was utterly addicted to her phone and just couldn't and wouldn't put it down for even a few minutes. I still talk to her but I'm glad Mrs WW is nothing like her :D

A7 problem solved : My A7 from 2013 drained the batteries, and I put it away. But after a few days, I tried again, resetting the A7 to the factory settings.

It worked again, no drained batteries since then. I wanted to share this, just in case ...

How quickly was it draining batteries?

They aren't know for lasting too long anyway!

Hi, 1) from one day to the next

2) yes, I know, but my typical "draining rate" is 1%/day for the A7

I posted this, because I was about to discard the A7. The reset was the (unexpected) solution and pleasant surprise for me.

If you have an APSC body, those Sigma 16mm, 30mm & 56mm are excellent.

I actually miss my little Sigma trinity that I had when I had an A6400 as a holiday camera.

Having a Sony Axxxx when I want something smaller would make sense as I have the A7 and lenses but I prefer the RF style MFT cameras I have to the A6xxx series mostly I suppose because the Sonys lack the two top of camera control wheels I want and instead use the rear wheel which I don't like.

The Sigma Art lenses are very nice but I find zooms are much more to my taste. I find the Sigma 10~20mm really useful on my A65...

I haven't used any Sigma zoom lenses in many years although way back when I shot Nikon APSC I did have a DSLR Sigma 10-20mm and it was useful in terms of it being wide and image quality wasn't bad.

While I have a few zoom lenses they are just back up's or get me out of trouble lenses.. I guess it's just how I see things when I am working. Even my preferred choice of primes is strange to most as I manly use a 35/50 combination rather than the normal 35/85 that most wedding photographers use.

Nowadays, as a hobby photographer, my choices are entirely on what pleases me and have no other purpose.

When I did weddings, a pair of TLRs was the norm, so your choice seems very sensible to me. (y)
 
35 and 50 make sense to me too. 85 will give a different perspective and might give more pleasing bokeh but for me longer than 50 is often too tight especially for people pictures as if there are other people or obstacles about it can all just get a bit too fiddly and inconvenient for me. And of course the longer you go the more risk you have of losing any context.

I have an 85mm I love it and as for being too tight - Maybe , just maybe step back a little :)

If you can :D For indoors it's usually too tight for me and when outside too, sometimes. 85mm is usually a touch too much for me but having said that I have taken some pictures I really like with 85, 135 and even longer lenses it's just that usually I'm more of a 35mm-ish person.

I guess with a reset is just a case of your custom buttons really isn't it. Mines never been super great. I did get through a battery and a half early hours this morning but that was multiple long exposures in the cold so..... I sort of accept and expect that!
 
Just after some opinions please. I have a gift voucher for a Kingfisher Experience that I’m hoping to use this year. Now my understanding is that it’s a hide at a natural pond/river where you’re not going to get as close as some of the dive pool places and it got me wondering if it’s worth hiring the 200-600mm over using my 100-400mm with 1.4 TC which loses 40mm range and 2/3 stop of light in comparison? I can’t see the 40mm making ‘that’ much difference, but without knowing what the light is going to be then the 2/3 stop may or may not make a difference. However, is it worth circa £100 difference (hire cost) and the extra weight?

I did look at hiring the 400mm f2.8 or the 600mm f4 but they’re circa £300 for 3 days hire so they’re a big no :lol:

Hi, I have a few original SONY batteries. At first I thought, I had a weak one. But it happened with others, too. Again, for me (and my A7) the reset helped.

It's annoying that the in camera zoom with e.g. A7iii and A7iv can't be used in RAW I really don't know why (just in JPG and video)
