I don't know what the market is or wants, but the 100-400mm is much lighter than the 200-600mm so I'd have thought it still appeals. I'd be more inclined to think it's just due to age as the original 70-200mm f2.8 is cheaper than the 100-400mm grey and that was before the new 70-200mm was around, and originally retailed at a similar price.I imagine with that one it is because it's an old design that isn't as popular any more, most people that want a longer lens will probably opt for the 200-600 rather than the 100-400,
The Tamron for less than £700 has to be very good value for money.





Not that I could justify it either tbh,
