The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

How are you finding the 50 f1.4 II? I loved the rendering of the MkI, but the AF was a little less than perfect, though still very usable.

I did a lot of looking at reviews for the Samyang AF lenses that I now have and it was Dustin Abbott's reviews plus what I could find on Flickr. The AF50 FE II is a lovely lens to use as it feels a nice size, I have set the focus ring to change the aperture making it easier to do. Not heavy and felt good on the A7 III and in use. It seems to focus pretty quickly and eye af is is good, I want to test it side by side with my AF75mm.

Not been on here for a while, so thought I'd post an image taken with Sony 135mm GM I recently purchased. Worried it would be too long over the 85mm for street photography, but loving it more than I thought, providing not in a cramped space.

Sony A7riv + Sony 135mm

Anyone bought the Samyang 50mm f1.4 FE II and if so what’s your thoughts, seems to render very nicely?

Some of my jazz shots were taken with the 50mm, nice lens and AF is not bad at all.
Cool thanks. I thought you had the Sony f1.4 for some reason

After reading this review I got the the AF50mm.

Yeah I read that earlier. It was the photos on Flickr that got my attention, great subject isolation.

Obviously too new for second hands to be available and Panamoz/E-infin don’t stock it so I’ll bide my time. The original can be had for £300 new though which is tempting.

I'm off to the jazz tomorrow and will take the AF50mm FE II with me, not sure if I will use it though as the Paris House is tight when the band are playing.

Just been looking at the Samyang AF18mm f2.8 as that would be great in the pub.

I think @ancient_mariner had/has the original.

They are only £300 for a reason, don’t do it.
I’ve toyed with the idea before and always decided against it (y)

If you search back through this thread you will find many unhappy with the lens. I had one myself a.f is quite terrible.

A friend has the new version it is a little better, but still has a.f issues especially at portrait distances.

My use won’t be taxing on the AF system as 95%+ will be static subjects. Rendering is my main priority (y)

Funny how things go. My experience was that the AF was quite a bit better than the Sony 50 f1.8, and the rendering was fabulous. I keep toying with getting another, and regret selling mine (paid £225 & really regret letting it go for that now) but I have the 55 f1.8 which has much better AF and a bit more sharpness, though worse subject separation and a slightly hard look by comparison.

A while ago I promised another member that I'd let them know when I was next going to Donington. I can't remember if it was on here, the Olympus thread or AVForums tbh (my memory's shocking) but I'm going Friday 15th April to the Masters F1, and Sunday 1st May to the Historic Festival. There's a good chance I'll go to some bike racing as well but not booked those yet.

Looks like the new wide angle being announced on the 22nd is a 16-35mm f/4 according to Sony rumours
What's wrong with the current one?

Kind of thought it might be a 16-35 f/4 as the existing one is an old design that doesn’t sell anymore because of the better Tamron 17-28. Mentioned it a few pages back.

Bit boring but hey ho.

I would have thought they’d be better off updating the other two trinity zooms, particularly the 24-70 f4!
That would have been better.

But it's not competing with that really as it's f2.8 vs f4, although in price terms it is more so. I'm sure they'll 'upgrade' all the lenses at some point but for me there's other lenses that need an update far more than the 16-35mm such as the 24-70mm f4 and 50mm f1.8.

Crikey sunshine, I'd forgotten what that was like  Nice pics.
Lol. Thanks, same here. I wasn't going to miss the opportunity, we might only get one more this year... :) The Sparrowhawk landed with the conservatory door between me & it, so no chance of moving without it also going, so had to shoot through the glass.
