The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

There is a lot of price reductions across the Sony range on Panamoz today.

Most stuff is now within £10-£20 of the e-infin prices.
I have a friend looking to move to Sony for his Landscape work, the Sony A7iv and A7Riv are very close in price now when looking at grey import so it's a difficult choice for him to make, me personally would go for the A7iv just for the more file friendly 33mp sensor.

These Panamoz price drops don't make it easy not to spend money! :p

Looks to be a positive review...

I'm sure it's great but i'd rather pay the exra £299 and go for the Sony GM version.

Looks like a darn good lens, and one I'd be very happy to own if it could be found for the right price.

Unfortunately the 70-200mm GM II hasn't come down enough yet. for me.

In that review the ca performance looks good next to the not so good Sony.

Can't say I have ever noticed any CA with the 135GM.

It is widely regarded as one of the best lenses ever made from any manufacturer.

Also read that there is an issue with the Samyang lens with some people saying that when they have the lens connected it drains the battery 50% quicker, I guess they will try and fix that with a firmware update. Not exactly a great start to a new lens launch though. Samyang quality control as good as ever.

I was just thinking there that is very little that isn't available for Sony any more, that I would be interested in anyway. There is a bit of a gap to be filled with more affordable longer primes I guess, but I wouldn't buy those anyway. I would probably take a proper fish eye if one ever becomes available.

I would like to upgrade my wife's 55 at some point, but she doesn't like the size and bulk of the 50 f/1.2 after been so used to using the 55 for so long. Maybe at some point Sigma will release an updated smaller version of the 50mm art like they have done with the others that would suit her or Sony will at long last replace the 50 f/1.8 with an updated better lens.

I'd like to see the earlier the f1.8 lenses updated with aperture rings and build like the 20mm. More focus on lens performance without the need for profiles to correct quite significant issues is maybe too much to hope for if keeping the more compact size and weight but ca performance could be better. This doesn't really bother or affect me too much I suppose as I'm not too critical but it's there to see when I'm feeling critical and my creaking old CS5 is useless for ca correction as ticking the box achieves exactly nothing.

I'd like to see a decent 50mm f1.8/f2 as the extra 5mm with the 55mm does bother me but the 50mm f1.8 is a no go because of probable focus issues leaving the 50mm f2.5 as the alternative to the 55mm for me.

I am toying with getting the 20mm F1.8 but panamoz are quite a lot more for that one still

Sale archive threads are no longer available.

Have these been removed of the site now?

Maybe this happened a while back and I have only just noticed.

Have asked in the help bit of the forum but apparently posts there have to have admin approval.

For a time or two now I've been promising myself that I'd try to start posting on this thread again some snaps captured with my Sony gear. I do warn you though that my material does lean heavily towards candid street style stuff and is more often than not in monochrome. Anyway this is my first incarnation, hope somebody likes it. :):)

Thinking I might try On1 instead of Lightroom, try to cut costs. Anyone else use it?

How do you pay for LR?
Assuming you are on the subscription plan, look out for the discount 1 year bundles on Amazon - they pop up several times a year, and discount a year to £80-£90 (occasionally less), you simply add the code to your subscription plan and it adds the credit, pausing DD payments until the credit has been used.
You can stack credit, so I never actually pay the full price.

I pay by getting the discount 12 month codes still at full reduced price of around £80 it's a lot.
I might go back to Capture One much cheaper in the long run.

Which is also now a subscription model.

Personally I think that LR/PS on the monthly subscription is a bargain, and for a mere tenner a month allows me to indulge in my favourite hobby of photography - I really don't get this 'changing editors because of cost' (especially if you like and are familiar with the editor that youy use) - I'd rather buy cameras/lenses less frequently than sacrifice my workflow.

^ Yup. I suppose there are workflows that require LR, but for 90% of people, the same results can be had with other software which doesn't force a subscription. Lots of 'influencers' use it, which makes it the de facto standard for YT editing tutorials, etc. Which is a bit of a pain.

In other news, my 17-28mm should be delivered today, and I'm surprisingly excited. Never had a wide zoom before. I expect to have a lot of composition failures before I get the hang of it! ;)

You could do what I do.... Shoot with an A7 and still use LR5 :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
If you can get hold of perpetual licences I believe you can use LR6 up to A7RIII

As much as I hate subscriptions, I must say the updates to LR in the last year have been really good especially the new masking functions. So I am pretty pleased. I'd have paid for that update.
Year before that was a waste though :P

The DNG converter is free, and upgraded for new cameras at the same rate as PS and LR - using that you can use an older version of LR with the latest supported cameras.
Downside is an extra step for conversion, lack of latest features (which may or may not be an issue, depending on what you want to do).

Just compared Panamoz prices against E-Infinity
Their prices may have dropped earlier in the week but they have rocketed today!!

Panamoz - Sony 20mm £810
E-Infinity - Sony 20mm £629

Panamoz - Sony 50 f2.5 £670
E-Infinity - Sony 50 f2.5 £409

Wow. That's s big difference. I'll admit I was so happy with previous Panamoz experience I didn't even check E-Infinity prices.

Panamoz are usually open to negotiation ;)

Also if you use DNG converter you only have Adobe colour profiles instead of your supported camera profile.

As an option Capture One Pro Sony is £199 one off payment.

What's not to get about the cost, I haven't edited a single photo since Christmas.

Until a significant upgrade comes along or the camera tech advances so that older versions are not supported.

Or you decide to change camera systems

Or Capture One decides to drop manufacturer specific versions https://fstoppers.com/capture-one/c...rsions-nikon-sony-and-fujifilm-cameras-593747
I'm not someone that changes cameras for the fun of it.
At £199 it needs to last a minimum of 3 years to best Lightroom on a cost basis.
Upgrades I'm not interested in either, it doesn't stop the old version from working.

My Mac is now an M1 MBA, and I'm not sure of LR6 runs on it. Would be great if so - I should go and check...

So you are looking to (effectively) save £40 over the next 3 years, thats £1.11 a month - is it 'really' worth it? - (Agreed if you keep it longer then the savings get greater) - Sure if you want Capture One over Lightroom then it is, but if you happy with Lightroom then why ??

Also with the sub you get photoshop too.
More recently since dabbling in astrophotography I am using photoshop a fair amount for stacking and stitching images.
So now I don't mind the amount I pay for the subscription as much.

if you use both LR and photoshop then subscription is really good value. Previously I mostly just used LR and made do with things like GIMP, affinity etc.
