I change lenses anywhere and everywhere including on the beach and with only common sense measures and care I manage to have very little sensor contamination.

It’s happened to 5 people that I have seen so far ao don’t think think it is user error.

Sony haven’t said anything about waiting 30 sethat is just what people are saying you should do.

Sony at the moment are saying nothing and are picking up the cameras that have been damaged so far but not saying yet what they are going to do. Just a guess but I expect they want to inspect the cameras to find out what has went wrong.

Maybe there will be a recall for the A7IV.

A few months ago I'd forgotten how to get into bulb mode on my a6600 until I realised I have to disable silent shutter. Also, bulb isn't available in continuous drive modes, only single frame drive mode.

I didn't know silent shutter reduces dynamic range and increases noise. (y) And I've taken some shots in some artificial light conditions with silent shutter and the photos ended up with horizontal lines due to the shutter not matching the 50hz alternating current, so now I try to remember to disable silent shutter in those situations.

12bit Vs 14bit I think.

Here tells you the impact of different modes.

What I find funny is dropping down to 12bit for silent shutter is a big deal but 12 bit for compressed RAW isn't from a lot of people so go figure.

Looking at the chart though cameras like the A7C do 14bit with the silent shutter, and with continuous shooting as long as you used uncompressed.

Most of the time you won't see a difference between 12 bit and 14 bit, personally I'd only be bothered about it shooting landscapes but even then you might not see it.

See my post its not that simple, the newer cameras have the same dynamic range in silent shutter mode.

Great stuff, looks like something would be a fun day although like yourself I'm not a fan of the backgrounds, even something that looks vaguely realistic would drastically improve the images.

We were discussing the possibility of projecting natural backgrounds. It is what it is though and for not too much money a few mates can get some interesting shots and brush up on technique. It taught me that my A9 ii would want to focus on the post when the bird got close in but while that was the case with an 85mm that may not be the case when further away and shooting with 400mm plus lenses.

For the first time in over 15 years I won't be receiving any photography related gifts and haven't bought any for anyone else either.

There is only so many lens mugs and camera bags that one man can own.
 
Yup. All just about ready. Just got the last prezzies today from Suggitt's (ice cream and sweetie shop) in Great Ayton. I just have to write some cards now to hand deliver. All the kids are getting money this year as none seem interested in toys now, it has to be screen based these days.

Got myself a big box of hard liquorish sticks and two peanut nugget bars from Suggitt's.

All set here, not expecting anything photography related, however an A74 and 135GM would be nice!

As it's now my job, I've actually started to find other hobbies, as I now rarely use the camera for "fun".

I know the feeling, found it very hard to get our kids presents this year and they are only 15 and 12. No toys at all this year they weren't interested. :( They didn't even want to upgrade into the new games consoles. All make up and clothes etc. this year. Guess that is what happens with girls once they get to a certain age. Our youngest is 12 going on 21. One of the M.U.A's that we see a lot at weddings helped us find most of their presents.

That is the way it goes, my missus in the last last few years has pulled something out of the bag photography related as a surprise but I have told her no camera equipment this year. There really isn't anything I need or even want at the moment. Cars became my hobby when I went full time as a photographer but can't really be expecting her to get me a new motor to tinker with although that would be a nice surprise. :D Will probably have to settle for some socks and a Toblerone.

We got the youngest of my niece and nephews kids toy cars the last couple of years just so they had something to unwrap and play with and they did play with them on the day but this year I don't think they'll be interested so they're just getting money to put towards something. One thing that does please me is that all the kids are interested in buying their own clothes, which I never was.

I can't remember what I wanted at 12, I know at about 10 or so I got my first camera, a microscope and binoculars but after that I can't remember. I still have the camera and the bins.

I’ve been eyeing up a project car, maybe one for next year after the family car arrives (if it ever does!). Picked up the guitar again after about a 10 year absence still rubbish at that. If I remember I sold all my guitar stuff to find my first camera.
 
I don't think I've got anything photo related. Unless you count a new chair to sit in whilst at the computer :)

I was going to ask for a Z plate for making tracked astrophotography panoramic images easier but I wasn't too convinced I'd use or actually need it.

Same for a Peak Design capture clip.

Except maybe another 50mm and an ultra wide and maybe a long zoom :D

I'd love to play an instrument. I could play one on the guitar and a few on a recorder but that was as a teenager. Being half decent on any instrument would do.

I've still got my acoustic guitar I had as a teenager. Still no better at it :ROFLMAO:
 
I could never get on with musical instruments either, didn’t have the patience to learn and have tried a few things. Can just about bang out The Sash on the flute and that’s about it.

I’ve got a new MIDI keyboard coming for Christmas which is a nice lightweight 61 key one for portability (y)
 
Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8. Ordered from a small indie on Saturday, remarkably it was actually in stock and is arriving tomorrow! Hell of a Christmas present to myself, single most expensive lens I've ever bought.

I'm a fully paid up member of the L Mount club and I have no plans to change that, but this lens is an itch I couldn't scratch so I'll see how it might fit into my life/work on my a9.
 
Buying a second A65 body revealed an interesting "feature".

I used the first body with a Tamron 16~300mm and it would lock up occassionally, especially at the longest focal length. Along with the second A65 I bought a Sigma 10~20mm.

However, since I put the wide angle on the older body and the 16~300mm on the newer, the problem appears to have gone. My guess is that it's a firmware issue of some sort.

I've always liked the look of the Hasselblad X1D but there's just no way I'd spend that much but if I did I think I'd look at that rather than the Fuji system just for the design and look.

The lens might have firmware update too?
This is a rarely considered risk of third part lenses I guess.

Yes.

On the other hand, both lenses give tremendous bang for my buck. The Tamron, in particular, is a marvelously flexible piece of kit.

I'd love a decent keyboard! I play piano but as I can't turn the volume down it limits me on when I can play. A friend of mine has one and I was amazed how far they have come for the price.

I'm lucky in that I have a Nord Piano 88, a 25 key MIDI and will be getting a 61 key MIDI. I have to admit, my piano skills are not what they once were after giving up lessons in my early teens so I can no longer play anything 'serious' and don't have the time to relearn. I dabble more in music production these days (just for fun) hence using MIDI keyboards (y)

It'll be interesting to see how this compares to the Sony 20mm f1.8 which is IMO very very good. These Sigma lenses do look nice though and it's nice to see someone caring about what a lens looks like rather than just a black tube.

I was just thinking yesterday how nice a compact Sony 20mm f2.5 G could be.
