What's this method. Just looks like the Toy setting on my camera?
It's a bit different to that setting, better known as diorama and miniature (If we're talking the same thing), but both are used to create more subject isolation, or at least the illusion of that. Diorama uses blurring at the top and bottom of the frame which gives more 'pop' but also giving a toy/model like appearance. Tilt shift lenses can give the same effect.

With Brenizer you take a regular shot with a wide aperture lens, then without moving focus take several shots, usually in a kind of spiral manner from the centre and then stitch in photoshop (or similar). The effect is similar to a much faster lens giving more shallow DOF and a bit of a miniature appearance. So for example you can make an f1.8 lens look like an f0.95, at least in terms of DOF.

That’s a pretty fair explanation. This was a real fad for a while at weddings. We jumped into it ourselves in a big way. But it just kept getting more extreme and at some we were ending up stitching 100 odd images which gave ridiculous d.o.f.

We have mostly stopped doing them now. Have a 50f1.2 now anyway.

Blimey. So I wasted 8 shutter actuations....... :(:p
not quite, toy effect looks a bit unnatural.
I think you have taken it a wee bit far with 8 images. A smaller width with less number of images would work well.

3 image stitch to get a square crop with 85mm

Gives me more separation than one image with a wider lens shot at f1.4 at the same time doesn't induce the obvious "toy-like" effect.

And for reference I know there is toy effect on the A7 because I used it in the past :D
here's the "toy" effect from my old A7 with Zeiss 35mm f2.8

This is nicely done (y) I(we!) went for 9 because I wanted to keep the same ratio of 3:2 or 16:9

Well, I've learnt something new today then. I've only had the camera 6 years..... Maybe I should get it out of Manual and Av mode more often ;):ROFLMAO:
Here you go (y)

Looks like it should be a nice morning tomorrow.
What lens to take on a walk around the park, hmmm.

Yours truly by 'er indoors!! 9 image stitch with the 85mm!!

I really like this, although I do love a good stitch! It actually has a bit of a medium format look to it, just like nandbytes one above as well.

Went with the Tamron 28-200 this morning, some great colours about.

Thought id see what the sun stars are like. Was still fairly dim as well so tried a 3 shot hand held bracket.

I ran into a few situations where 28 just wasn't wide enough. It's frustrating as otherwise its a brilliant lens.

Nice shots, have you tried shooting panos when the lens isn't wide enough. Might be a solution so the lens covers all bases

I haven't actually, be alright for static stuff I guess.

Nice colours. I'm not sure if it's how you've uploaded them but the first two shots look very soft.

Just the upload thing on here. Limited to 800 on the long side as well. Second one will be softer it's a 3 image blend handheld.

Evening all. My A7Riv has started suffering from a high frequency vibration which seems to stop when half pressing the shutter so I’m assuming it’s related to IBIS. It happens with both Sony and 3rd party lenses (both without OS).

Has anyone experienced similar? I’m assuming I’ll be looking at a warranty repair.
Cheers,

Pete

Try exporting at 1024 on the long side but limiting file size to >450kb.

Taken this morning during a short session before breakfast. Would have loved a backlit red squirrel but just couldn't get it in the back lighting a bit further to it's left.

not sure what the Flickr link has done but it looks sharper on Flickr.

I don't think I have ever seen a red squirrel in real life, have a couple in my garden, but they are grey. Last time I looked we were at least a couple of hundred miles away from the nearest known areas. That is still a great capture though....

260 miles for me going by the trip counter on my car on Friday. we’ve come up to the Lake District for a week so had to add a night at our favourite B&B to get a quick red squirrrl fix.

f/1.4 forest!!

I should have used the 35GM at f/1.4 for this one too!!

Stunning pics. The forest one is like a painting. The stars one is spectacular. What is the red from, on the ground?

Thanks Lee. I was hoping for more separation with the stars one so next time will set it up properly & use the correct lens!! I'd finished shooting & my boy was just finishing off so I quickly snapped a few images with the 20mm that was on the camera. As I said, I should have done it properly but I was cold & tired so..... ;) The red light is from his head torch.

Oh from a head torch. Good creative thinking! I watched a youtube video on a photographer's channel a few weeks ago where he'd set up his camera on a tripod behind his car out in some dark place in the middle of nowhere with no light pollution. His girlfriend then started the exposure as he drove away and what they caught was stars similar to yours plus the light trails of his car lights. It looked pretty spectacular too. Might be something fun to try with your ford escort. :)

I found it. Apologies as this guy is a bit sweary.

The headtorch has a red light on it as a red light isn't supposed to harm your night vision as much as a white light ;) But obviously is still bright enough to see what you are actually doing. I've bought an LED light panel & little gorilla type tripod which I've used on my last few night outings to light the foreground - It's interesting, and fun learning what works & what doesn't.....

The Escort hasn't been out since early October when I MOT'd it let alone come out at night :ROFLMAO:

To answer my own problem..... don't use 3rd party batteries!

anyone getting the a74, i cant decide between that or an A9, for bird Photography i ilike the bird af and increased mp of the a7 but like the higher frame Rate and blackout free shooting of the A9.
For me I'm not sure that 9mp will make 'that much' difference in the real world, however 8fps vs 20fps and blackout free shooting can make a difference. Another thing to consider is that the A7iv has the better ergonomics of the later models.

I'd personally look at the A9-ii grey, sub £3k if you ask them nicely ;)

For me I'm not sure that 9mp will make 'that much' difference in the real world,

An extra 35% cropping ability would make a big difference when shooting wildlife, especially small birds. For me it would mean the difference between putting 90% of my pictures through Gigapixel ... or not.
