The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Wheels are very much a personal choice. When I got my first MX5 I insisted they took the alloys they'd put on it off and refitted the original steel wheels :D That saved my £500 on the price too.

My missus didn’t like the wheels either, until she seen them in real life. For the first time ever she didn’t even complain about shelling out for another car. Probably because I have been going on about it for the best part of a year. I think she was just glad hat I had stopped moaning about it. :D

Alrhough I will pay the price in the long run she has already started eyeing up new sofa’s and of course if I had the money to change the car I can surely afford to provide her with yet another sofa even though we only have the other for about 18 months.

I've been using super unleaded in my MX5 and it's still E5.
General consensus is that the MX5's run better on super unleaded anyway, so it's nothing to worry about....

My MX5 isn't compatible with the new stuff but I do appreciate that the old stuff will be about for some time to come. Thankfully my also aging but not as old Hyundai is compatible. I'll have to think about what I want to do. I've been thinking of changing cars for some time but now possibly isn't the time with prices being how they are and there's the nagging feeling that if I sell my MX5 I'll regret it and never have another. All things to think about.

I presume it’s not viable to replace the seals, plastic pipes, etc. with those from a later model?

I'm laid up with a bug at the mo and constantly feeling dizzy and sick so even thinking is a problem but when I'm up and about again I'll talk to my friendly mechanic about the problem. It's overdue a service anyway so I'll book it in and have a chat about the implications.

Shameless sales plug.... (before I sadly go to MPB)
I know a few people here were regretting getting the A7C without the new 28-60mm kit lens....
I got one in sales is it interests anyone.

Saw it, i'm tempted by one at some point purely for the size.

I'm tempted too but then I remember how many times I've used my 28-70mm, about three times and once was only because I picked it up and mounted it thinking it was my 85mm f1.8. I only spotted something was wrong when it wouldn't go to f1.8 and I then spotted the extra control ring.

Oh yes I can relate to that, it's incredible the things they find to relentlessly spend money on. I think she believes I have some steroid fed money tree hidden away somewhere

Anyway, she's now getting a fancy ass no expense spared new kitchen and downstairs toilet/shower room so I thought sod it, time for a treat for me. I always wanted a supercharged petrol so off I toddled and got one. A nice toy can be great for a bit of a mental health boost, which is very important in my book, especially for men these days.

Nice car, I hope it brings you many miles of big smiles!

Speaking of cars, I spotted this car being loaded onto a lorry in New Bond Street a few days ago and took some quick shots. I didn't know what it was but turns out it was the baddie's car in James Bond's Spectre. It's a Jaguar CX-75. Same number plate.

Lot of money!

It's a nice looking car. I'm not a fan of spoilers though.

Supercars do nothing for me. I’d never be able to get in them, and if I did I’d never be able to get out. Serviced Lambos, Alfas, and Lotuses when I was much younger (before my IT days and after my HGV service days) and cursed them for lack of accessibility to the oily bits. Be even worse now with modern electronics getting in the way.

Completely unrelated to anything Sony at all but seeing as we talk about anything in here has anyone noticed the huge increase in the value of used cars, seemingly because the semi conductor shortage is causing huge issues with the availability new cars as I expect it is doing for lots of other things as well including cameras?

My car goes back to lease company in November, offered to buy it off them or re-lease it which they refused. The value seems to be going up so I guess they want it whilst it's worth more. I got two WBAC quotes on it about 6 weeks apart, the last one was £1000 more. My FIL also seen a £4k rise on his 2017 XC90!

It's great if you own, but in my situation it's going to cost me more. Can't get anywhere near what I've currently got for the same outlay. And anything new comes with a 6 month wait.

I had a Lotus Elise, that was the most extreme car I've had. They were pretty cheap at the time, I think I paid £21k or something like that for my MK1 when new but these days I think they cost £40K+.
I am if they're functional and stop you flying off the road!

Well there is that but even then they can look truly awful. IMO.

My Elise had its integrated ducks tail. My Elan SE had a spoiler, not a bolt on one but a more integrated and less noticeable one.

that's the main reason to buy it. Previously she was using samyang 45mm f1.8, we decided it'd be better to have something with a little zoom and some weather sealing knowing the Welsh weather (but we generally had very nice weather).

I have got the final value fee offer this weekend, I'll stick it on ebay if there are no takers.

Not to get technical but pretty sure that's a wing not a spoiler.

I'd probably go for a new one at that price though, if you can get that for it great.

A new one is £450  :$
If you are buying it with the kit sure you can get it for £250 as part of it which is what I paid.
Not where I would buy it. Lol £233.

never used them but looks like an importer but perhaps you can avoid taxes with them and still have it at £233. I dunno about them to comment tbh.
You are welcome to make an offer if you wish (on the sales thread that is).

Lovely car that, looks like I'm one of the few that loves supercars.

Whats it like?

I have been looking for a compact walkabout lens.
Really good especially if you have a decent amount of light like we did.
It actually rather sharp too even wide open.
I think Dustin Abbott has a review for it if you would like an independent review.

Its actually amazing for what it is. just don't expect a 28-75mm f2.8 at that size and price ;)
It's also weather sealed which was a big factor in us purchasing it (may or may not be important for you).

It’s actually a very under-rated lens, if you shoot in decent light.

One thing which could be a problem for me with my ancient A7 and even older CS5 is that the 28-60mm seems to have quite a bit of distortion and I don't know if my kit and software will do any auto corrections although there might be an existing profile that gets close or one that could be downloaded. I dunno.

Neither will correct automatically, but you can manually correct fairly easly. Creating a profile won't be so easy, because it's likely to vary across the focal lengths.

as per my suggestion on one of the other threads you might be able to manually add the lens profiles for newer lenses they are all freely available with Adobe DNG converter.

I don't know. I have the latest version that'll work with CS5 but I've never tried to find and download drivers that aren't in my latest version. It may be possible but every time I go to adobe's site I find it so obnoxious and opaque that I want to set fire to them.

I thought some auto corrected? That's what the guy said in one review I watched. Anyway. What I need to do in CS5 is either tick the auto correct box or manually select the make and lens. There are a lot and some seem to work with lenses that have no profile. So far I've never bothered to try and create my own profile or download ones I don't have. I think there is a good argument for not doing any of this and leaving some character...

You were asking about your camera & software. The lens was produced a long time after the last A7 software update waas released. Of course they'll automatically correct with concurrent kit.

That's what I assumed.

I used to do corrections but now unless there's some serious distortion I most likely don't.

There's a short piece on The Online Photographer about sample picture galleries...

I look at bokeh (and bokeh ball shape) sunstars, vignetting and flare and any comments on distortion or corner colour shifts and the like.

Does anyone look at sample galleries and decide anything based on them?
