"Street Performer 12"

I've not been contributing to this thread for a time or two for one reason or another but here's one from me.

Just a simple candid street style Snapograph taken at Clink Street London UK of a guy with his Soprano Saxophone doing a bit of street playing.

I was testing my FE 70/200 f2.8 my Niece is quite the model girl the lens was sharp at al FL s I think this will show better on flic as it is very sharp so I wont be getting the FE 135 f1.8 it was going to be my next lens but the zoom gives so may options for these type of shots.

sorry about the desaturated shot not sure why it there Opps.

Is that second shot the unprocessed one? If so what did you do in PP as you've done a great job with the skin tones imo. The lower pic demonstrates for me what I still have an issue with using Sony, I don't think the white balance is as good as other cameras I've used and leaves a greenish tint/hue.

No it was while i was getting the flic linc that i added the desaturated shot , I set my white balance on about 5800 K and just leave it at that i also adjust in camera settings add a little saturation and drop contrast a little .
This is out of camera but run through topaz denoise AI .

To set my camera up in good light i just take a average shot i.e one with a house brickwork grass trees and foliage of different greens then play with the camera saturation and or white balance so it looks right when put on the computer it takes a little time but once done your really close and can then just tweak on the computer .

I shoot in raw + jpeg but only ever use the jpeg Raw is just in case i get something really wrong but that's rare as I only shoot in manual.

I spontaneously decided to drive to Richmond Park yesterday, first time I've been there. Been meaning to go for ages and as it was quite sunny I thought I'd take the opportunity. Only took me about 50 minutes to get there and there was loads of parking in the Roehampton Gate Cafe car park. I had such a nice afternoon there and took over 600 shots of deer and a few other things. I've got about a dozen or so deer photos that I like and will post some later. At 7pm I only just remembered the gates would be closing at dusk and recalled what nandbytes once said about people's cars being locked in, so I hot footed it back to my car! Meanwhile, at the end of the day I got this shot which although a bit noisy when zoomed since I was losing the light, I thought was rather nice.

Nice shot. Were you using silent shutter as the wheels (front especially) seem to be suffering slightly from rolling shutter to my eyes?

Yep, silent shutter. If I disable silent does that stop rolling shutter?

Ah, didn't know that. I'd gotten used to silent shooting because of being discrete for street photography. Thanks rob and snerkler, another good thing to remember. :) (y)
Also, I bracketed that shot, but on review, as fast as the three shots were, the bike had moved significantly in each exposure so if I tried to merge them I'd probably get some weird ghosting effect.

Many cameras today let you choose between a mechanical shutter, electronic shutter, or EFCS. Picking the wrong one can harm your photos and image quality.

There's only a few cameras that have fast enough sensor readout to allow the use of full electronic shutter and have little to no rolling shutter effect, the A1, A9 and A9II being three such cameras. I'm not sure about the latest Canons, but I don't think any other cameras have a fast enough readout.

I wouldn't bracket moving subjects, I doubt any software could merge them into one single shot without weird artefacts and/or ghosting. You can off course use tricks like this to merge the photos to have say several cyclists in one shot, but you'd need an interval between the shots and know how to use photoshop etc to "cut and paste", but if you want to do this you're better off using burst mode rather than bracketing so that the exposures are consistent (y)

Thanks. Yeah, I tried the bracketing to try and get good exposure for foreground and background given that the light was getting low but yeah, clearly doesn't work with bikes. Boy was there a ton of cyclists at the park, amazing to see, just so many of them. With hindsight, I was at 6.3 and should probably have gone to a faster aperture.

You can still blend a shot like that using photoshop, you'd have to do it manually and make sure you have a good selection of the rider making sure it's only visible on 1 layer (y). It's a lot of faff imo, I'd just use one shot and hope that Sony's DR is good enough pull back the highlights and bring up the shadows.

I agree, a lot of faff. Yeah, I used just one of the bracketed shots. In lightroom, I had shadows at +80 and highlights +14. I just tried what you suggested and pushed shadows to +100 and brought highlights down to -95. Does this look better? It does however show up the noise on his clothing more.

I personally prefer the original, I don't mind blown areas in the sky like that as it looks natural. The only thing I'd be tempted to do is carefully brush in a small bit of positive exposure on the rider to brighten them up a bit, but not too much. That's just my preference btw, nothing wrong with the shot as it is (y)

Thanks Toby. Lol, I'm looking at them both and not sure which sky I prefer now. :D Anyway, I've just copied my edits, done a virtual copy, reset it, running through topaz and will paste my edits back and see how it looks.
 
I went a Sony experience photo shoot day recently and used a A6600 with my own lenses Sony SEL SEL1855 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF MF Lens (90931), E 50mm F1.8 OSS and E 55-210 f4-5.6 OSS
The A6600 was a nice bit of kit though the Eye AF was not as aggressive as the canon R5 or R6 and unfortunately I did not get chance to use the A7C. I also borrowed from Sony the 16-55 f4 Zeiss and did not like it at all ! !
The focus was slow, the eye AF was inactive half of the time and the image quality was poor against my kit lens SEL SEL1855 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF MF Lens. This really did surprise me as I thought this would be a great lens and was very disjointed.

What other lens is worth considering a decent replacement for my kit lens SEL SEL1855 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF MF Lens for a walk around.
When Sony next have an offer on I will buy the A6600 as I already have 3 lenses, though I really wanted to get the A7C, and the main reason I would buy it is that I have no Full Frame Sony lenses. Even buying a couple of used lenses is going to set me back at least £1,000 ! !

The not decent lighting doesn't seem to have affected the end result which is I think very nice :D
 
First time at Knockhill for the Bike Racing in about a decade(two camera brand changes in between). Never got much chance to see how my muscle memory would cope as a massive crash saw racing stopped. Hope the two guys in the sidecar are OK and a horrible thing to witness. Hope the two guy on teh sidecar make a full and quick recovery. It looked like brake failure at the end of the straight going into the hairpin. Images as varied as I could in the circumstances as I was only stood on teh one spot and the move round teh track co-incided with the crash which happened right in front of us.

There's only a smallish grvel trap at that hairpin. Hope they're ok!

The rider looked in a very bad way. He looked dead for a while but was just unconscious. We moved round the track as they got him on a spinal board, not easy given the starting position and he was conscious and fighting all the hands keeping him still. It was a huge impact as the gravel trap is small and the sidecar never slowed at all going straight on at the end of that downhill straight. It flew over the first half of the gravel and smashed into the pads with a truly sickening thud. The passenger looked like he had a big hit on his eye and probably a broken jaw. In typical biker humour someone asked if they would see him in the beer tent later. He looked pretty sore when he attempted a laugh.

A bit of a pain travelling 45 minutes spending 15 quid and then going home having hardly taken any images. It was totally the right decision by the track though and safety has to be the number 1 consideration. I have been at fitba games that have been postponed for floodlight failure and the fans are very critical and annoyed. Not a word of criticism from the bikers as they all know that could be them any time they get on a bike.

Having skimmed over a gravel trap and stopped in half a cars length with a thud into the tyres (all be it in a car) I can sympathise with the poor biker! As you say though its the right decision to cancel, if it had been a fatality they'd have been criticised even more so the track/race organisers can't win either way. Glad to hear he's hopefully alright though.

They may have started racing after I left but I'd already hung around for a few hours and it was going to be at least another hour from what I heard.
 
Another Nikon lens gone so am in the position to treat myself. I'm pondering an A1 but also thinking about another A9 or A9 2 as it is great for the sports I do and I'm not sure I actually want to be shooting 50mp files for sport. A real long shot but does anyone have an A9 they are looking to sell particularly if they are interested in a 200-600 and a 1.4x I would obviously throw cash in too

Must admit I'm still unsure about the A9 for wildlife. It's a fantastic camera for sure but I really struggle with the lack of pixels for cropping and resorting to Gigapixel for 75% of my shots is not ideal.
 
Hi, Have searched the net for an answer to 'Can you see where the focus point actually focused after you have taken a shot?"
Found an app online for Lightroom but seems will only work with Canon & Nikon DSLR's

I was looking for similar, when i used Capture One, i really liked the focus peak mask, gutted lightroom doesn't have similar, though with the newer cameras missing focus is much less of an issue.
