What do you mean by not being native, it's always been a 3rd party software so assuming it's not this?

It's running a intel X86 code getting translated to ARM through Rosetta 2.

That's a lot of technical jargon to digest....basically, old mac uses Intel, which is a X86 architecture, Apple Silicon uses ARM (same as your phones), and has a different architecture. Software can't run on both directly, as in, old Macs can run windows because inside an older mac is same hardware as a windows machine. So for an Adobe software written for Intel chip to run on Apple Silicon, it needs translation. The magic thing with Rosetta is that...it works, it is an instant software translator. Imagine someone speak to you in Japanese and a voice in your head translates it into English in real time.

It works seemlessly.

There are still quite a lot of things not native, Discord, Spark (mail app), NordVPN, but some things I thought wouldn't be already are like Wacom drivers.

Interesting, thanks. Will software be developed to work natively in the future, or will it always need translating?
 
You will see which is native, which is not in the activity Monitor under the Architecture column.

It requires a 'translator' to convert the code to run on the M1. Native software runs directly without translation.

A little slow there!

It's down to the individual software companies to work on that. I guess Apple hopes that companies jump on board to support it asap. Adobe for example have ported PS and LR (the non-classic version).
Translation while very good isn't as efficient as native versions. While it's fine as stop gap I wouldn't work through translation layer for ever because that ruins the point of buying Apple silicon.

Fingers crossed they make a native classic version as I don't like the other.

I have one on the foot, no strain on the mount to camera in any shape or form. If Im using a Tripod / Monopod I don't use a strap at all :) I do also have peak design toggles on the boddy for use when I don't have a large lens on

Pretty sure they will and they have said it's coming too.
Topaz stuff is on it too apart from gigapixel.
Affinity is supported.

So things are moving in the right direction. Hopefully by the time next version of Mac mini is out it'll all be in place :)

I am sure they will come, as the M1 is selling VERY well and so far, with very little negative press or major problems. Which is pretty amazing considering the drastic left turn they have taken with the hardware and how much it is/was relying on Rosetta to do the translation. So with the adoption keep increasing, software developers are more incentivised to convert their code to suit.

Some software I am not bothered about, like Discord or things like that, but Adobe is a big company and have the resources to do it. Native Photoshop is already out so I can only expect the others are on their way.
 
I bought another 35mm lens :D A Takumar 35mm f3.5. It's small and well made and although maybe not the sharpest I own is perfectly good enough. I took it to the park yesterday, it rained. Some pictures taken with No.4 close up filter.

The most cars I've owned at one time was three, also all vastly different, a blue 1967 MGB Roadster, a black MX5 MK1 and a red Elsie MK1. These days I just have a dark grey Hyundai Getz and a red MX5 MK2.

I used to be mad for cars but the most I've had at one time was three but they were very different, see above. Apart from the expenses cars became too much hassle for me as I really couldn't take some of them out without encountering a nutter or three and I couldn't park them anywhere for vandalism. They became not worth the hassle.

Love the Elise and more so in red
Thinking on getting one myself but it's quite a big mental jump going from a hand down from parents to spending ££££ on an Elise.

They are VERY much the same IMO...they have different colour and badge but it's all designed for the same purpose, for the same demographic and market.

It's not like you can drive one in the snow, another can hold a double bed frame and another can seat a family of 4.

I had an early MK1 and I'm not sure I'd recommend one as mine had the clever ceramic/aluminium brakes and they were fine in the dry but get them wet and they just didn't work at all and I don't mean they needed an extra push, they didn't work. God knows how that car passed approval with those brakes. Then there was the fact that just about every time I took it out something fell off, and even when it wasn't falling apart it whistled at speed. The handling was just as you'd thing but in the wet... extreme care is needed. Plus it attracted way too much attention from idiots.

This is partly why I like MX5's, they handle well and are fun at legal speeds, you can use them in just about any weather and they're so common no one really cares about them.

I'm sort of pulling your leg :D but...

Elise... all out fun but not too practical and useless in bad weather. MX5 MK1, more practical but still fun and can be used in almost any weather. MGB... just lovely and I'd always wanted one but I'm really not prepared to put the work in to keep on top of it as you should so I didn't keep it long.

As for snow, I hated driving my Elise in snow, just hated it. An MX5 can be driven in the snow and I did. I also got stuck once and the guy who came to pull me out drove straight into my car in his LR. MGB's are actually quite good in snow and the Midget I had was very possibly one of the best cars I've had for snow. Winter tyres would of course help a lot.

If I were to have 3 cars garage I'd get a classic, modern petrol (family) and a daily.

Something like the E-Type (or even a Volvo P1800), a modern Land Rover Defender and then an Electric, may be a Honda-E or a Tesla.

That's what I call very different.

For the price what an amazing bit of kit. What swung it for me was the inbuilt gimble which must be the best in this size camcorder. Also that mic, where else can you find one that has swivel heads to be either stereo or directional? I wont go into all the details of what it can and can't do as that hasbeen done on youtube already. The "deadcat" wind deflector that the mic come with is what I woud say next to useless so i have ordered a Gutmamm one instead. Other extras I recomment is the JJC TP-S2 pistol grip (the Sony version is a bit short in length) and the JJC wireless remote which is about tfhe only one I could find that works at a decent distance. I also added a UV filter (the shutter and lens are very close to the front) and a lens cap -55 t0 77mm step up ring for a rectangular lens hood.
This is because that gimble movement can hit the edge in screen of a lens hood if using a smaller with sideways movement. Only main drawback is it doesn't have bluetooth so the pistol grip has to be a wired one

Together the cost including a 128GB SD card I recon is well under £1000 (I got my camcorder from a main dealer discounted). So the complete packege is well worth considering not forgetting it does more than just video like time laps- high speed - night mode .etc

Just for fun this was my first "ghostly" effort. watch the cup move from the right across the work surface. Oh I was behind the camcorder all the time and it was pitch bl;ack



most of the videos on my youtube channel were taken with my old Panasonic camcorder which after 9 years and a huge amount of videos decided to start giving a few problems so P/X for this one

I've been thinking about that Sony XYST1M mic ever since getting the A9. Is it definitely worth getting?
 
Im in the other camp, I like Apple products but hate the company ethos. However Im seriously thinking of buying a my first Apple device since the ipod (gen 1). My PC is 11yrs old now, the only reason why I have got away with such an old PC is because I built it myself and spent an absolute fortune on it. The thought of spending all that money again plus the time for customising everything doesn't quite appeal in the same way now as it did then.
I have a laptop that I use for everything, the only thing I use my PC for is ON1 photo editing now, I mainly game on my switch. They are releasing that software in native ARM64 code and suddenly the mac mini is starting to look very attractive @899 for the 16Gb model and reviews very well for things like photoshop and Lightroom. As the refresh isn't that far away, I will probably wait for the M1X chip with the extra GPU cores.
I can hardly believe Im even considering it to be honest...

Native I believe means coding the application to run in ARM64 rather than (Intel) x86 where you would use something like Rosetta as a translation layer to enable the 2 different architectures to talk to each other

Thanks George, yeah, it's getting quite a lot of views. I've never had more than about 16 faves on a photo. I wonder if this will make 100. Timing was fortunate yeah. I was out 'fishing' and got lucky. Haha, you're right, she spotted me. :D

Lightroom, PS, Logic (plus 3rd party plugins) are all I'm really concerned about.
