The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I assume you have tested other lenses and they all work fine?
If so probably best to return it.

Yes, I have a samyang 35mm f2.8 and samyang 75mm f1.8 both working perfectly.
It's a bit of a shame, hope I get it sorted. It was a "as new / open box" sort of item. I wouldn't be surprised someone already returned it :-(.

I've only have 5 myself. I only ever need one spare for each body. So I only really need 4.
5th one is really for emergencies.

When it comes to a 12+ hour day of shooting, with two cameras, I don't like to risk it :D

I shoot all day plenty of times no problems. Still have 50% of 2nd battery left easily.
But if I run out it's no big deal, for you it's your profession so I can see why you'd have back up for a back up :D

I am still battling with GAS on 14GM preorder.....

I hate pre-ordering anything so pointless.

You will always get one somewhere.

I have no need for the 50 at the moment so no point it sitting in the cupboard.

50GM seems to be the first f1.2 that can actually AF fairly quickly and silently.
Would love to try one at some point but I'll wait for a good bargain.

I'm shooting boys/girls tennis, cricket and athletics tomorrow over a 2 hour period at about 6-7 locations - really want to shoe horn the 135GM in there, but I'm not sure it'll be worth messing with given time constraints.

Really struggling to do something simple!
How can I see raw sony a7iii metadata. I want to see the focus distance / subject distance info but that don't seem available in LR.
After a few more test with the samyang 18mm it seem that the lens in autofocus only focuses to about 1m then stop. I would think looking at the exif would confirm my hypothesis.

Sony done well with these batteries. Can shoot a whole game of football and come back with juice still in the first battery.

The batteries are good and last a long time. I only have so many as it allows me to have 4 batteries per body which means I can go a couple of days without the hassle of having to charge. I always like to have a minimum of 2 charged batteries per camera so for me that means over 6 bodies I need 24 of them.

Well worth the cost of the batteries for me, I don't like leaving things charging overnight so when I have a wedding for example on a Friday and a Saturday I need 2 batteries per camera for the Friday and 2 each for the Saturday so that means 24 in total.

Just received my samyang 18mm f2.8 FE and it's not good :-(.
On manual focus performance is great but the AF is constantly wrong. Like totally out of focus that even at F8 it's still blurred...
I've just tested it on a tripod, steadyshot of, focusing straigh on onto my house in good light and compared to manual focus. It's not even close to be in focus.
Check the firmware that seem to be the latest.

Any ideas?
I think I will have to send it back.
Like everyone's said it sounds dodgy, send it back. My 18mm was spot on (y)

A lovely morning shooting landscape and nature all with a smallish rucksack and half the weight of my old landscape Nikon setup. This morning was exactly why I turned to Sony and the A7R IV after a very slow start, mostly due to lockdown, is now starting to grow on me.

Two "Excellent" shots Simon, liking both of these equally. Well composed with some lovely light.

Cheers, I was lucky with the light as the clouds broke up around first light. The forecasts have been miles off lately so just heading out and keeping fingers crossed

More news on the samyang 18mm front. After further test, it looks like it auto-focuses from near to 1m then stop there, that is why all pictures are blurred. But in manual focus it is all good.

I bought the lens for £222 on eBay. The seller called Intro 2020 seems very legit, they have plenty of good feedback and a UK website to their name. They just messaged me back to say that they are an official samyang agent for the UK. They can't exchange it but they can take it for repair.

So I have the choice of full refund or paid repair.

I feel like sending it to repair is a good option, the price was good and there is no gambling at getting another one.

Personally, I'd take the refund.

I think Intro2020 deal with Samyang returns. I got a really good deal on a Samyang 35mm F1.8 and it works fine but was a white box. It looked brand new to me. I would probably go for a repair as lenses that are well repaired are often better than new lenses as they get a full check from a technician. Samyang suffer from decentring more than most so if yours is good optically I might opt for a repair to whatever is wrong with the focus system

Onestop digital are fine.
They are a grey importer and they are fine. Haven't bought anything myself but a friend bought a few lenses from them no issues few years back.

Awesome, thanks chaps. (y)

I had been considering the 10 stop Haida at £39.23 at Amazon and also the 10 stop K&F Concept which apparently is also very good and comes with a storage case although some say has a very slight blue colour cast, at £26.99 at Amazon.

But I prefer to get the Haida since you and Lee Ratters recommended it. Since I can now get it under £30 it's a no brainer so I'll order it.

Regarding the Haida Slim Pro ll 67mm ND filter, I can get it for £10 less than Amazon. Anyone used this shop before? Price includes free shipping and no vat. http://www.onestop-digital.com/haida-67mm-slim-pro-ii-nd1000-3.0-10-stop-filter.html
I used to use them all the time.
My last few purchasesI made, I was stung for import duty.
By paying it then sending the receipt to Onestop, the money was in my account within days.
No problem getting the money back - more of a nuisance.
E-Infinity or Panamoz for me these days.

Thanks Mike, good to know in case I get asked to pay duty. I've just ordered it, can't wait to get it now. Mind you, it's times like this I wish I lived near the sea or some massive lakes so I have something to use the filter on, lol. I'll have to drive somewhere out of London. Or there's always the Thames.

The Sony a1 needs a firmware update, crashes frequently trying to engage tracking with 100-400 and I believe it locks up with 70-200 as well

Might be worth making a video of it and/or posting on dpreview/FM. They have a lot more A1 users on there to help with your testing.
The only other user I know of on this forum is @GyRob but not sure he has the lenses you mentioned.

The good thing about recent Sony cameras is you can export the settings and share it.

So @dancook if you export the settings and explain how to reproduce the issue may be someone else can reproduce it.
Just make sure who ever importing your settings have theirs saved/exported so they don't lose it after helping you out.
