They are generally optically very good and they make mostly speciality lenses. All manual lenses though.

Because of their all metal construction they are heavier than they need to be.

Are they well priced? I'm like you with the Mitakon, it's a bit pricey and thought these might be a good alternative.

They seem fairly expensive for an all mechanical lens.

Depends on which lens you are after. Their lenses are generally one of a kind with no direct alternatives. they seem to want to position themselves in such a way that they can charge a bit more.
But you can get decent prices in the used market.

I didn't realize the Nikon Z version was that big!
Tbh all Nikon Z lenses seem unusually large. That large mount doesn't seem to be working out :p
One reason I moved from my Z6.

There’s a part of me that wants to move back..

What reason?
Not sure there is much to gain from moving to Nikon. Sure it's better to hold but it's not like Sony has nails and spikes that digs into your palms :ROFLMAO:

Personally I can think of more things I'd lose out on than gain by moving to Nikon.

I've a feeling that there's a Sony 28 f2 in my future, and maybe a couple of FE mount ART primes at some stage, but I mostly like the pictures my old beercan produces, and doubt the increase in quality and AF of a native 70-200 zoom will justify replacing it.

I've been very pleasantly surprised by the Sony 28mm f2. I've read not so good reviews but in use I haven't found any significant issues and it's certainly sharp enough and fast to focus, compact and light too. I bought mine used at what I thought at the time was a nice price.

I've also been impressed with the film era 28mm's I have, all are perfectly useable and even good but the Nikon 28mm f2.8 ai-s is a particularly nice one.

Nostalgia..loved the 50mm Z f1.8.

Got the E-infinity "it's on its way" photo this morning, shouldn't be long now.

Currently that doesn't mean a lot with e-Infinity - I've had to wait ages for a couple of items, and ended up cancelling them. They seem to be going through a difficult time.
My recent experience with Panamoz was worlds apart.
Hope it works out OK for you.

It's better IMO. The Z50/1.8 bokeh isn't anything to write home about. The good thing about the Z is the LoCA correction.
Bokeh doesn’t bother me a right lot. It’s the look of what IS in focus which concerns me, not what isn’t. YMMV. :)

FE55 focusses faster, wee bit sharper too. So its good with in focus areas ;)
rendering is the image as a whole inc. out of focus areas and in focus areas.
It's hard to screw up in focus areas with optics in this day and age.

If anyone is bored and wondering how an iphone compares to a (in this case Canon) camera...

I've not tried a Laowa but when I was in Hong Kong last year I noticed lots of people using them around the city for cityscape/harbour photos. When I went to Sim City they had a really big presence, quality of build looked really good but like I said, I've personally not tried one.

We'll agree to disagree on that one ;)

I briefly though about a wide angle one but I was put off by reviews stating the corners had a colour shift.

The build quality usually gets commented on though.

ah, I remember now.

It's a nice lens. I'll be interested to know if the f numbers line up with the little mark, mine don't when going one way but they do going the other.

Yeah I looked at Panamoz as normally if it's close in price I'll use them but it's a lot more expensive from them. I'm fine waiting for it I don't need it in a hurry.

That's really interesting Alan thanks for posting, strangely enough the "iPhone 12 pro max" is something that I will be upgrading to from my "iPhone 7 Plus" in the very near future. Just as soon as we are allowed to get out a bit more freely.

I’m happy enough with my Loxia 50mm. Focuses fast enough for me. ;)

It's quite interesting how some phones work with photos, to get around lag they are often taking photos as soon as you open the app and only save when you press the shutter.
Often they auto combine photos as well to get the results they do.

At work our video cameras do something similar the image you see on the monitor is a composite of multiple pictures, the camera runs at 100fps but the image you see is only 25fps, it will do HDR by itself if the scene requires it.

Will you get one because of the camera?

I've never had an up to date phone. I bought a Motorola mobile phone years ago (20 years ago, maybe more) and that was replaced with another non smartphone make when it died but all my smartphone have been hand me downs. I have been tempted to buy a decent modern one just so I always have a camera with me but to be honest I don't like the experience. I keep thinking I should carry my TZ100 more but that means having two things with me, phone and camera.

Amazing.

As I've said many times here Mrs WW and her mates swap pictures all day long and some look nothing less than stunning on the phone or tablet and often only really begin to show weaknesses when I look at them on my pc, then they're often technically rubbish but most people will only ever see them on the phone or tablet.

I still don't like my phone as a camera even though it takes impressive photos. (OnePlus 7 Pro)
I either take the A7C with 35mm or RX100 which all being said is actually the best most used and abuses camera I have ever had.
I'd never be without an RX100 or similar camera now.

I used to have a Panasonic LF1 but stupidly gave it away. That was genuinely shirt pocketable but the TZ100 isn't, not for my shirt pocket anyway.

Not just for the camera although that is quite a consideration especially as I shoot a whole bunch of videos on my old 7 Plus, its just really time for an upgrade.

I'm quite happy with the quality of snaps I get from my Sony RX10M4 & RX100M6 cameras. I still have all of my Fuji-X gear and the Fuji GFX stuff if I want even better quality. I did actually invest in a couple of Sony mirrorless units together with four Tamron lenses when I first started to contribute to this thread but I have hardly used them. I've probably taken no more than about a hundred snaps with them together, I just love to use the two RX cameras. Maybe I'll get around to digging them out and using them in the coming months.

A lovely day for a stroll round Giggleswick with the Voigtlander 35mm.

It's such a nice lens I sometimes think I should just sell all my film era primes as I seem to reach for that Voigtlander just about every time now.

Mrs WW wanted pictures of these flowers, A7 and Voigtlander 35mm f1.4. I didn't have my close focus adapter with me so these are 30 to 50% crops and were good enough for her to zap off to her mam and mates.

Just a simple Snapograph taken at Dungeness Romney Marsh Kent UK of part of an old winching system that was used for hauling the boats or catch up the beach. This is just one of the many old things scattered about the beach that have just been left behind. I've deliberately gone for a higher contrast gritty look for this snap to emphasize the rot & decay etc.
I'm also working on a personal project called Things Left Behind and this will be one of the shots included.

Just a bit of fun. A7 and that Voigtlander 35mm f1.4. A portrait crop from a landscape shot.

I tried to walk at the same pace to take this and sort of succeeded as the focus stands up to pixel peeping at 100%.
