The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I use this on my A9.
Love it. Nakes it more comfortable to hold. No need to remove it to change battery etc.
Works with Arca clamp.
Side section is adjustable/removable.

That looks really good. I use an outrageously expensive Kirkphoto L bracket on my A9 that I bought in New York from B&H but it's impossible to use when in portrait mode because there is no provision for a shutter release cable .

The bluetooth trigger works really well

I’ve had that. Really uncomfortable for me. Felt too much like a cold chunk of metal on the end. The Sony one feels more seamless. I’m all for 3rd party stuff, but have found the Sony one is the best for me.

I have no doubt the Sony one is ergonomically better. It definitely looks the part.
While battery changing is fine, I use tripod a fair amount so it'd become annoying.

I think it helps if you post it to every group on Flickr

At one time Mike I too thought that, but this very day I have yet another snap in Explore that was in no groups whatsoever when chosen. At the moment its now in just ten groups of which nine of those are invitations to add the snap to various groups.

I'm looking for a Sony 1.4x teleconverter (again!) so if anyone has one they don't want I've got a "Wanted" in classifieds.
Me too ;)

I’m yet to figure out how explore works but the one’s of mine that have been explored haven’t been in groups either (y)

Yeah, it looks the part.
The grip part matches the texture on the camera grip too.
@Ceejay bought one too....

See these teleconverters, when I look (on WEX) it says they only work with one or two lenses, yet when I look up other certain lenses it says they will work with the teleconverter. Is there anywhere to find out for sure what works with what?

What’s your opinion, chaps?
Can you see any short term reduction in the A9ii price with the advent of the A1?

Thanks, although I can't see anything there which tells me.

When I look HERE it says: only compatible with SEL70-200 f2.8 GM and SEL100-400 f4.5-5.6 OSS GM

and yet HERE for the Sony FE 200-600mm f5.6-6.3 G is says:
Compatibile with Sony's 1.4x and 2x teleconverters
It will fit the Sony 200/600 and the 600f4 too and does fit the 70/200 .

Rob.

I’m not sure it will have any effect on the retail price but I think you’ll see more used A9’s and A9ii’s on the market.

I think around £2850 is as low as they will go used for a mkII it is a great camera I may sell mine when my a1 arrives as the extra MPs will be very handy to me and if I don't use gear I sell it on .

Will obviously depend on condition but like new used from a store are £3300 at the mo but privately they might go for £2850 as you say.

Have you got a delivery date yet? I’m not going high mp again now until I’ve upgraded my computer but long term I think the A1 will be on the cards.

No date yet other than early March I bought a new computer a few months ago so that's ready :)

probably best saving yourself a grand on the a9ii and getting the a9.
The A9’s definitely the better value and if you can get on with the ergonomics it certainly makes more sense IMO. The second slot being UHS-I is a bit of a pain though.

And as we recently found out the UHS-II slot max write speed is 150MB/s with the best cards on A9.
With A9II you can get up to 180MB/s with the same cards on both slots.

Didn’t know that. Needn’t have bought those Manfrotto ones if I had :banghead:

You'll get even lower speeds with slower UHS-II cards
So you'll still benefit from having the manfrotto cards

Have a look here

Only camera that eeks out sightly higher write speed is A7RIV which goes up to 200MB/s.

I didn't know that.
I bought a Sony tough 300 mb/s card for my A9  .
So I don't need anything any faster than 150mb/s ?
Just looked at some charts, and the tough 300mb/s are still the fastest.....

Not quite... If you buy a slower card than your Sony tough card then it'll be even slower to write (as you can see from the measurement table on that website).
So the fastest cards will write close to 150MB/s. If you buy a slower card i.e. one with only 150MB/s write speed then A9 will write slower than 100MB/s to those cards.

Obviously your are paying quite a premium to squeeze out top speeds but that's just like anything else in photography.... You always pay more for the last 10% increase in performance.

Shame there’s no mention of the Manfrotto on there.

I think they are basically Toshiba cards.
Manfrotto don't actually have the capability to manufacture memory. They outsource that (there aren't many with that capacity) and then add a tough layer on top with their branding.
Going by specs they are very close to Toshiba.

An A9 ii in good order just sold for £2500 on ebay. I emailed the seller and it sounded legit. I was very close to bidding but thought better of it in the end as I am liking my A9. I also received my new to me Samyang 35mm F1.8 AF. For such a cheap lens, I paid £255, I am very impressed and it will get plenty use taking indoor shots of the dog and as a main street lens.

Apart from the slight technical differences, I think the handling of the later bodies are so much better than the earlier ones.
Having a A7Riv, handling wise it would be a retrograde step to the A9. It’s only money!

That’s cheap, I wouldn’t be surprised if you can get more than that trading it in.

Yep, I couldn’t go back to the pre A7RIV/A9ii bodies.

There’s no doubt the body is nicer. Comes at quite a cost though.

Still handy for when transferring to the computer. I'm getting about 192MB/s.

I already had one with fast read speeds but not as fast write. Not the end of the world, can never have enough SD cards
