The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I'm glad to be out at any time.

I'll get an hour out tomorrow so I'll take a camera, just in case :D

Does anyone have any thoughts or experience of the Tamron 28-200mm F2.8-5.6 Di III RXD lens on a Sony A9 or similar MP sensor? With thoughts about next year and hopefully getting back out doing landscapes I'm still thinking of ways to lighten the load yet get up to 200mm. The Tamron looks quite an interesting prospect bar it starting at 28mm rather than 24mm. Looking on camera size.com its roughly the same size as the 24-105mm and only 575g which would be nice compared to carry two lenses to cover nearly the same focal length.

I just view the new posts page and 99% of the time it's there.

I've not noticed that, but I have stopped getting notifications of updates.

I can’t see it in their. Here’s the recent screenshot I’m seeing:

You broke something, it's literally at the top under all the stickies.

It’s not in there for me. It’s not in my ‘threads with your posts’ where it should show the latest activity on threads I’ve posted to in the past.

Sounds like it’s just me then!

Have you tried a different phone browser or checked on a pc or laptop? On my phone, I find certain things don't work or show up using Opera browser but are fine using Google Chrome browser.

Near the top for me on both iPhone and Mac.

It disappears if you block the thread starter.
Interesting, never knew that. Surprised anyone sees it then as we all ignore woof woof don't we? :naughty::LOL:

Ref RTM :- Your account settings all seem OK.
I can't find anything "missing" or set wrongly..
I'll get the bloodhound to sniff about a bit more (y)

but I have stopped getting notifications of updates.
Can you just go into your account > preferences and make sure all the correct boxes are ticked ? (y)

Sunny?

Oh yeah, I vaguely remember that.

One last one from today, or rather two last ones.

All by myself...

These pictures don't really capture how wet, slippery and muddy it was.

Domestic bliss. She's making woollen slippers. I'm wearing some now, they're very nice.

The colours are a bit off, blame the lights.

As it's a bit quiet in here...

What do people think of the 28mm focal length? There's an interesting discussion in the Fred Miranda thread on the new Sigma 35 and 65mm f2's...

I've never been a really big fan of 28mm as I usually prefer a one lens for just about everything approach and 35/50mm suits me best as it goes back to how it all started for me at the age of 10 with a Kodak Instamatic which has a 43mm f11 lens. 28mm for me gives a bit too much perspective distortion which can be fun but it's not for me for an everyday do it all lens.

I've had some film era 28mm lenses for a while and recently added the Nikon 28mm f2.8 Series E MK2 just out of interest as I'd read that it was one of the worst lenses Nikon ever made (I think it's actually quite good) and then the ai-s again just out of interest as I'd read it was very good (and I think it is.) On the strength of these two I also recently bought a used Sony 28mm f2 just to try and also because I fancied something AF and wider than 35mm for a trip to London. I've been impressed as it's compact and light with fast focus on my ancient A7 and the image quality is IMO good.

I can see the attraction and 28mm is afaik the most used focal length these days due to phones but it's on the edge of what I'd be happy with as a one lens for just about everything. It may be just right for some things though :D

Well, I'm interested in that length simply because my prime-bag's lens line-up is currently 21mm, 35mm, 45mm, 75mm, 100mm. The 35 and 45 are too close together, but if I put a 28 in there instead of the 35, then that spans the range nicely. As it happens I have a Yashica 28mm f2.8 ML from my Contax, complete with adapter, so I shall try that.

At the moment the AF choices are a bit limited as are the modern manual choices too, maybe. MF wise I'm happy with the Nikon ai-s and AF wise the Sony f2 is good enough for me. Actually the cheap and cheerful options are pretty good too imo.

Hope you get on with the Yashica and if you do you might give the Sony f2 a go :D

The Yashica 28ML isn't a bad lens at all imo. Same as the 50's. Not used it for ages though!

I like 28mm as a prime - less limited view than a 35, and croppable with a 24MP camera to close in a bit.

Yes, I’ve got the 50 as well, sitting on the Contax which is loaded with a film (remember that?:D )

24mm's a good option imo as you get a decent wide angle, but also close to 35mm in DX mode (y)
