The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

You've got more information in the lights (right of the image) so should be better.

For more info on my shot that was an 8 shot stack from my A7Rii attached to my 8" reflector telescope so it was effectively a 1200mm teleohoto lens (even if it was just a big mirror)

Oh nice, you have a telescope. 1200m, that's more than twice my reach.

I'm going to try an 8 shot stack, I've watched a couple of tutorials how to stack them between LR and PS and back to LR. It'll also be the first time I've used the interval shoot function on the Sony. I've just set shooting start time to 5 seconds, shooting interval to 3 seconds, and number of shots 8. I'll see how that goes. And I'll set F8.

Spot meter on the moon. That's what I did and it seemed to work well.

Good luck Lee.

And above all enjoy.

Thanks, just changed to for spot metering. Oh I always enjoy the process. :)

Moon had a lot of cloud cover last night and then just disappeared so didn't get to shoot any further. May try tonight if it shows its face.

And some really interesting sigma lenses too :O

I wonder if these will be like the 45mm f2.8 and designed for bokeh and look rather than class leading sharpness across the frame. If they are I wonder if Sigma have learned from the reported difficulties with continuous focus. It'll be interesting to read the reviews and see the sample pictures.

Like the look of those Sigmas, perfect for the A7C user the aperture ring on the lens, dial on the camera for shutter speed.

So if they're designed for look does that mean they're a bit like an AF version of the Loxias.

I suppose we may get some clues from reviews of the 45mm f2.8.

I'm sure I'd be ok with lenses like that as I mostly use single point single shot but reports say that the 45mm struggles with continuous focus possibly due to the qualities that give it its smooth bokeh look.

There's a Fred Miranda thread on the 45mm...

Hmmm. Just read a report of that lens locking up with some sort of focus glitch. I'd deffo wait for reviews and user reports on these three new lenses before biting. The 35mm f2 could possibly interest me.

Another new toy to go with the A7C. Feels well made, good weight for its size and function as well.

I’ve got all the toys to go on mine - when it comes. Panamoz say that flights are disrupted by Covid and gave me £50 compensation.

Question for any Sigma owners, are both the 16mm f1.4 and 56mm f1.4 Sigma any good.
I owned both when I had the 6500. Hardly used the 56 but when I did, it was very sharp. Used the 16mm on all my Ingleborough Cave shots. See my Flickr. Loved it!

Thank you, the cave images are great. So glad the 16mm arrives tomorrow.

New Viltrox 24, 35 and 50mm f1.8's...

I could be wrong but maybe not as tempting as the new Sigma lenses, they're all f1.8 though.

Any takers?

we clearly don't have enough 35mm and 50mm options.
they'd have to under cut samyang and sony own cheap options.

Going to have a look at that now.

I don't know for sure but I'd guess that we have so many 35's and 50's because they're good sellers, relatively easy to design and make and everyone thinks they can grab a piece of the pie?

If these are cheap enough, are consistent in build and quality (unlike some others,) have decent focus and have a nice rendering they could sell in enough numbers to satisfy the makers expectations and they do have those nice aperture rings which of course some don't have.

I doubt I'll look at them as I have the Sony 35 and 55mm f1.8's but some probably will.

Guys, for anyone interested, a6600 reduced from £1049 (what I paid for mine) to £969 at e-infinity.

Thank you, I do like the 56mm a lot and will try the 16mm soon.

The 56mm is next on my list, just haven't gotten around to buying it yet.

For whatever reason the forum mangles pictures.

What does it do because I don't seem to see a huge amount of difference? I only looked at the first image but maybe they're all mangled for me :)

For me it seems to soften them up. Looses detail.

ah ok thanks, I had them side by side (same size on the screen) and flicked between them didn't see much but maybe I should have bought those new glasses.......

For me it doesn't spoil pictures as you can see and enjoy them but often they lose sharpness which might not be too important in a picture but it reduces sharpness enough so that if anyone says "WoW! This lens is sharp!" you just have to take their word for it :D

Yeah I was sort of thinking that Dave's new lenses might be faulty, and then you click / view them in flicker it makes a world of difference.

It's not all photos though, so, i guess, some people are doing things differently in order to get the image looking nice on here
