The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

My OM to E adapter arrived today.... Trying to focus got tired very quickly I have to say:D

You can focus using zone, hyperfocal or Merkinger method or you can use peaking or my most used method is to call up the magnified view for possibly the most accurate way of focusing on exactly what you want to focus on.

We walked to the shops, A7 and Sony 28mm f2.

Leaves, post, wire.

Leaves and berries.

They didn't have what we went for.

I think I like this one.

Chilly though and one thing Mrs WW is just about coming to terms with now after initially struggling to believe it is that at this time of year sun and blue sky = cold :D

The rumor guy says...

There's a new Sigma lens coming soon...

And a super dooper battery on kickstarter...

Shock as battery that is huge and sticks out of the bottom of the camera is bigger.

I haven't read it all but the releases with a single press feature could lead to a few embarrassing moments and also a few moments scrambling about in the fallen leaves to find it again.

I'm sure there's a market for it.

Yep I did exactly that, I had peaking already set up but added the magnified view bit and even so it was bit hit and miss I found, notwithstanding all the button presses (I set it on C3 btw). It's just so much more simple focussing my OM1 and OM2. Even manually focusing Sony lenses is fine, just seems a chore with the adapted lenses. I'll give it another go tomorrow in decent light :)

It should be two button presses, one to call up the focus box and another to magnify it. I almost always move the focus box too so that'll add to the number of presses so it's not a fast way of taking pictures unless you're using one of the hyperfocal type techniques and then it is a quick way of taking pictures. I use manual lenses more often that not.

What a lovely day we had today. Sunshine and no rain, makes a change! I found a cool walking place near me that I didn't know about with a path alongside fields and took a bunch of landscape and tree shots which I'm processing. Meanwhile, I asked someone if I could photo his dog. :)

Is this better?

Since your avatar suggests others may edit your images, here's my take.
Example Merlin-.jpg

Whites look white, blues blue, yellows yellow etc. The aluminium frame of the buggy is a neutral grey where it's reflecting an overcast sky. That's not to say you can't use colour to control the mood of your images - far from it - but it just needs to fit the mood.

This must be because of my red green colour blindness but I'm not really spotting the difference. I know you've changed it for the better I'm not doubting that for a second, but I'm not seeing it. Is it a very subtle change? I think maybe I can see less green in the pavement.

The pavement has gone from cement grey to sandstone yellow.

New Sony 35mm f1.4 GM and A9III coming?

This isn't Sony related but just out of interest is anyone interested in monochrome cameras?

I can see the attraction in monochrome pictures although I don't like the mono pictures that look underexposed by a large amount and there do seem to be a lot of those about, but for those into mono photography does a mono camera offer enough of an advantage over creating a mono picture in camera or in processing to justify having a camera that can't take a colour picture? Maybe people who buy mono cameras have other cameras to shoot colour?

I'm just wondering.

I am interested in them. I can sometimes see the difference between a proper monocamera and a colour image converted to mono. But there are cameras like Fuji with their film simulations that can get pretty close to a "native" monochrome result.

I think most people these days will just use post processing to achieve this.

Funnily enough I was watching this video just yesterday and apparently he sells only b&w images and for top dollars. He doesn't seem to have a monochrome camera

Think it's a niche and I'd even consider buying one for £300-500 but wouldn't spend ££££ on it.

I can sort-of see it after looking at the carefully-selected images shown from these cameras. They do seem rich and detailed. On the other hand, I have serious doubts that I could achieve any like that. Of course, if Leica would care to try to prove me wrong and donate such a camera, it would be churlish to refuse.

The difference is big, although tbh, I think the image would look nicer as a B&W because it would compress the background to the foreground which re-enforces the positioning of both coming together.

Question, with my A7R it was well known that Sony lied to us about the weather proofing (they changed the wording in the specs).
Are the newer cameras better, I never took my R out in the rain. Will the A7C be okay in rain.

taken mine out in the rain already.
think they are all pretty well sealed these days.

It will be the lenses you have to watch out for, especially 3rd party.

Also got a SanDisk 95mbs card and now in able to take fast photos noticing it takes a while to save. Are these cameras able to make use of a faster 300mbs card.

Well hopefully this will come out but for me it needs bird eye focus Canon and now Olympus (2nd dec ) have it So Sony need to catch up .

I like that idea, Raymond. I'll change it to B&W later. Thanks to Toni for editing it, I of course have no problem with anyone editing my photos. I'll have to be careful how I colour cast my images. I remember posting a photo of a Dunnock and also being told it was looking a bit green. Oh dear! :p

yeah i am bit wary of using samyang lenses in the rain. my 24GM is my go to rainy day lens. its really great with absolutely no issues!
I imagine the sigma ART mirrorless lenses are fine too. my 85mm is very nicely built.

Do you have the new 85mm? What's it like with back-lit portraits? I know its sharper than the gm but does the contrast fall apart shooting into the light?

I hope my colourcasting and processing is ok on this. :D If you zoom in on this image, the plane and double lines of the jetstream are a little more detailed.

yep. haven't had the chance to shoot back-lit (since there hasn't been much back lighting!). its fine indoors but sun light in much brighter to shoot into.

I take my A7 out in the rain, did it again today. I only take normal precautions. I think lenses are the worry.

You can get the Sandisk 64gb 170mb/s cards for about £15 on amazon
Had a look at those, of you read into them they're a con no faster than the 95mbs cards except when using a SanDisk card reader.

Will keep an eye on the 300mbs ones 32Gb would be enough really.
