So many settings compared to my old camera.

I think I have it setup how I like things.
Feels really sturdy and well made, EVF is just not an issue, yes it's smaller but the quality is better than it was on my A7R, I'm really happy with it.
The way you can setup all the buttons makes the lack of dials and buttons a non issue as well.

I had a long think as I like the AF/MF/Exposure lock switch and button but reading the PDF manual it's possible to assign these to a button and toggle between the two so I tried this on my A7 and assigning these functions to the buttons left and right of the back vertical wheel works well. So that would cure those issues for me as just about everything else can be stuffed into the custom menu and all I'm left with is the inability to seamlessly switch between mechanical and electronic shutters when using wide apertures in good light. It doesn't look like that's something that can be fixed with a work around though.

Just assign silent shutter to a button.
 
Some pictures from today. A7 and Voigtlander 50mm f2, the best lens I've ever used.

I would have liked to be here yesterday at 11:00 but I couldn't make it so I went today. We met a friend and her dog along the way and some other people with dogs too. Our trousers and her coat are covered in doggie footprints and are going in the wash :D

And can you toggle between mechanical and electronic like that or does pressing the button call up the options and require more moving about or button presses?

Pressing the custom button instantly switches mode and allows you to go up to 1/8000. Press it again and it drops to 1/4000.
You can have custom dial modes as well, not played with those but I imagine for the people like you could have a set for AF lenses and a set for MF lenses.

It's all a faff on a work around and I'd prefer the controls and buttons of my A7 and the ability to shoot faster than 1/4k without any extra steps but this could be just about liveable and I like the idea of the compact kit lens too.

I'll give it some thought.

Sorry just tried it, pressing the custom button brings up a quick menu with the 2 options on it.
So not quiet as fast, but it's still okay to use that way. I have my C button set to that.

I'd use the custom modes as I do now. I normally use the camera in single shot mode in aperture or manual and when taking people pictures I switch to a custom mode with face detect, either in aperture or manual. In manual I also have a people friendly shutter speed as in aperture it often drops to 1/60 which is often too slow for people. I'd almost certainly set any new camera up the same.

My 2xtc came so put it on the a9mkII FE 600f4 so 1200mm the shots are a little sharper than these show it works very well on this lens
1/4000 sec. f/8 1200 mm iso 1600

I did try it on the 200/600 AF is quite good IQ does drop a little though but ok for the most part so i would use it on this lens if i need extra reach.
all in all quite happy with the results .

Hi Robert, any chance you could upload these somewhere a little better than the forum, I am interested to see them at their best if possible.
 
Another test a9mkII FE 70/200 f2.8 + FE2x tc 1/6400 F5.6 iso 800 a bit of PP and Topaz this is about as good as i got out of 200 shots in the garden most were a bit softer than this .
At a push it works quite well with fast AF but it's not something i would set out to use unless the bird was close to start with the bare 200/600 is sharper so a better choice by quite a margin as expected .

Is lightroom/Photoshop only available for that one fixed monthly price now?

Seems to an offer at the minute for £8.32 a month. £99.29 for a year.
Suppose it's one way to encourage people to use it more to make it worth it.

I had started using Capture One but I miss the flow of Lightroom. But only ever used to but it, one of payment.

The cheapest way I've see to get the plan is via the 1 year bundles on Amazon - normally £119 (so the same as a years subscriptions), but every so often they discount it down to £79, which makes it noticeably cheaper.
You get a code, which you apply on your Adobe account, and it just credits you with 1 year, suspending any direct debit until it's used up.

And you can stack them. I basically buy one every Prime Day or Black Friday.

I am sorted until 2022..
 
So my best bet if I want it now is to buy the reduced £99 a year one. Then keep an eye on Amazon and grab it when it's cheaper.
 
And sometimes if you threaten to leave they tempt you with a couple of months free ... :angelic:

offer for £80/year is almost always on black friday and prime day.
it was on offer last prime day too.

I'd suggest waiting for black friday. its only like a week away. use the trial till then.

I've actually been considering the A7C and I'd be tempted to swap from the 6600 purely because of the full frame sensor and the ability to go higher on the ISO with low light with not too much noise to worry about as the 6600 is pretty awful for low light. But I like the non swivel LCD screen on mine, I prefer pulling it out and tilting it up and down instead of swivelling it out to the side. The grip looks a bit shallower on the A7C. But the biggest thing for me is that I'd need a massively long and heavy zoom lens to get the same (well, a little more) focal reach as the more compact and lightweight 70-350mm which has a 525mm equivalent. I'm not saying this to put the A7C in a bad light. Far from it, it's obviously an awesome camera, But we all have different needs. If a zoom lens ever comes out up to 600mm for full frame that isn't massive, I'd make the swap. I'm glad you're enjoying it rob, look forward to seeing some more photos from you and nandbytes. :)
