Am sure A.P got a mega discount but they would have gotten that by switching to Canon or Nikon as well. It’s interesting that they have decided to switch over everything. First time they have ever had everyone on the same system. Makes me wonder if all those what seemed like unnecessary files transfer upgrades on the A9II were made with this partly in mind.

There were a lot of people complaining that the A9ii was just a minor upgrade on the A9, but it looks like Sony knew what their target market was when they introduced it - and for AP it clearly met their requirements.
I would imagine AP would have got a significant discount over retail prices, simply for the volume of sales - and by switching to Sony as a single supplier of cameras for both video and stills they would have been able to maximize that discount.
As for the R6 - it's too late! AP will have taken months to have evaluated options, etc, and by the time the R6 would have been available even as pre-release samples, the decisions would have already been made, and it would have been down to how much it would cost.

I was also at Stormont (our version of Westminster) a few days ago for an event and there was quite a lot of press there and in a sea of Sony cameras I only seen one Cannon user. There was a lot of what looked like A9’s and A9II’s. I guess the silent shooting is a big thing for the press.

They were using flash seen quite a few Godox V1’s. Yeah I know you can’t use silent with flash of course but silent I assume is useful for other things than press conferences for them.

OK strange question here, I was out scouting a location for a night shot, usually on a manual lens I Id set my aperture to say F8 and Id know on my 30mm lens that I could have everything from roughly 1.5mt to infinity would be in focus. On my 16-35, I can't work out how to do the same? How can I focus to infinity on an AF zoom?

Put it in manual mode and the focus distance will show on the screen. Like this:

Im not getting that. I tested with my 24-105 as well then realised I needed to flip the AF/MF switch on the lens for it to appear...
Could that be the issue then, there is no MF/AF switch on my 16-35 lens..

I assume you mean how can you get near to infinity depth of field, focussing to infinity is a different thing? Best bet is a hyperfocal distance calculator, plenty on the App Store (and imagine android store). I went one step further and made my own chart using the info from the hyperfocal calculator so I have a table with hyperfocal distances for 16mm, 18mm, 20mm, 24mm and 35mm set at different apertures.

You need to set MF mode in camera then if there's no MF switch on the lens (y)

Adapted lenses were so much simpler, Im discovering menus/features I had no idea existed. I thought from vids I had seen on you tube the moment I turned the focus ring it would zoom in on my focus poin and I presume bring up that menu. Will have a play with the settings, I think Im going to be doing alot of that over the coming weeks..

Mine should have arrived this morning but of course it came during the two hours I was out and I can't pick it up from the depot :(

The review is surprising as it's the first one I've seen mentioning AF problems which I'm really hoping is an issue with that particular lens and it seems more positive on the Sony 24-240mm than others as well. I did initially dismiss the 28-200mm since it had a good bit less range than the 24-240mm but on seeing the results from the 28-200mm I took notice and any reviews that have compared the 24-240mm and 28-200mm are critical of the Sony's IQ which I've not been impressed with even though I realise as a superzoom it's going to be a compromise.

A few days ago I bought a used Sony A6500 from Camera Jungle, I fancied this as a replacement for my existing A6000. I use this almost solely for macro work. I thought that the IBIS would be an advantage when hand held, the better EVF would be helpful in lower than optimal light and the sensor might handle high ISO better. I also thought that having the ability to shoot 4K video would be an asset in the future.

I've found none of these points to be evident, the A6500 is a lovely camera there's no doubting it and it is in excellent condition but I don't feel that spending an extra £500 odd over the value of the A6000 has added any value to me in terms of what I shoot.
I'm going to be taking advantage of their "no quibble 14 day return" and I shall be photographing the body before returning it.

You can set it to do that or you can set it so it only calls up the magnified view when you press a button.

Things may look complex, daunting even but once you've set your custom menu and configured the buttons and dials how you want them you'll be pretty much sorted :D

There's all sorts of manual focus aids and settings but you need to be in MF first. I wish all lenses had and AF/MF switch and range scales.

Yep I did, but did it in store and they were kind enough to take it back. I bought a used Sony RX100-3 and didn't like it.

Or in Direct Manual Focus (or whatever it's called,) which is AF until you grab the focus ring and move it at which point you can MF with AF lenses without switching to MF.

XT-4 is overpriced in my opinion, hate the articulated screen, plus early adopters always get shafted by Fuji, more so than other brands.

I love really low light work without flash so FF makes sense, I’m glad I stuck with Fuji for so long as it’s taught me a lot and really pushed me to get results but already I can see why people love the A7’s and 9’s.

I think I must have had the simplest setup ever. When I bought my a7r2 I literally set up shoot without lens, C1 for focus magnify/peaking, fn menu for white balance, drive mode and that was it. I assumed AF lenses would make things simpler, instead I'm drowning in options.
Gonna go for a walk Mon night and just play, try and make sense of what works for me out of all the options

I remember I popped the FE85 lens on a few months ago. So used to the Voigtlander's I couldn't even remember how to move the focus point :LOL: :LOL: I think I recall manual focusing that too on that occasion!

How much was it? I got a new a6500 for less than £600 from Currys at one point, have they gone up in price?

You might need to change your feelings towards articulating screens as it looks like it'll be the new norm for new releases.

I wasn't keen on the idea, but since using one for the last 6 months I have to say I'm converted and love it.

For AF lenses I use DMF with one focus point and move it about as required. I also have two custom modes, both with wide area focus, face detect and auto ISO, one for low light with manual mode with f1.x and 1/250 and the other for good light with aperture priority f1.x. With these settings I can use DMF for general stuff and quickly switch to a custom mode for people shots. It seems to work for me.
 
Someone is selling a Tokina Firin 20mm f2 and a Sony 70-200m f4 in the for sale section. They've been on sale since early May.

Looking at the leaked A7s pictures, how do you think the new articulated screen compares to your favourites?

I hardly use my tilting screen and on my Panasonic G1 the articulated screen spent most of its time turned to the body. I'd probably use an A7x the same, with the screen turned to the body for protection until needed.

I prefer the old a-mount style because I don't like the side hinged style. But I can see why video folks might prefer the A7SIII style because the screen is not blocked by whatever is on the hotshoe or whatever camera is mounted on.

Horses for courses I guess.
